Streamlabs widgets add alerts, chat, activity feeds, and goals to a YouTube livestream. Configure the widget in Streamlabs, test it, then add it to your scene in Streamlabs Desktop, through the Streamlabs OBS plugin, or as a Browser Source in OBS. The right widget makes a particular on-screen event easier to notice; it does not guarantee more engagement or revenue.
What Streamlabs widgets do
Streamlabs describes widgets as elements that can be added to a livestream to support interaction and customization. The main options serve different purposes:
- Alert Box: Shows an alert when a supported channel event occurs. Streamlabs documents YouTube alerts for subscribers, members, and Super Chats.
- Chat Box: Puts chat messages on the stream. Streamlabs says this can preserve a sense of live interaction in clips and VODs; that is the vendor’s rationale, not a measured performance result.
- Goals: Displays a target and progress toward it. Streamlabs offers a YouTube Super Chat Goal widget.
- Event List: Shows an activity feed. The events available depend on the connected platform and account; Streamlabs’ examples include follows, donations, stars, likes, and merchandise sales.
- Other widgets: Streamlabs also lists Tip Jars, End Credits, Spin Wheel, and Media Share.

Set up YouTube alerts in Streamlabs
For YouTube, the documented Alert Box event types include subscribers, members, and Super Chats. Available customization varies by alert type and may include layout, image or GIF, sound, font, animation, duration, text-to-speech, and variations for events such as subscription milestones or gift memberships.

- Sign in to Streamlabs and select YouTube in the channel or platform settings.
- Open Alert Box and choose the alert types you want to use. Customize their appearance and any available variations.
- Preview or test the alerts in the dashboard so you can check their appearance and sound before going live.
- Add the Alert Box to your streaming software using one of the methods below.
Streamlabs recommends linking channels in a Streamlabs ID for creators who broadcast to multiple platforms. Its guide does not establish that this is required for every YouTube-only user. Follow Streamlabs’ current YouTube alert setup guide if dashboard labels or available options differ.
Add a widget to Streamlabs Desktop or OBS
Streamlabs Desktop
- Open the scene where the widget should appear.
- Click the Sources plus button.
- Select the widget, such as Alert Box, and add it to the scene.
- Position and size it in the preview so it does not cover important gameplay, captions, or other overlays.
OBS with the Streamlabs plugin
- Open Streamlabs from OBS.
- Go to Widgets.
- Add the desired widget to the scene and place it in the composition.
OBS or another compatible app using a Browser Source
- Copy the widget URL from Streamlabs settings.
- In the streaming software, add a Browser Source to the scene.
- Paste the widget URL and set its width, height, and FPS to suit the scene.
- Preview the scene and trigger a test event before broadcasting.
Streamlabs explains how to find and use widget URLs in its widget URL and Browser Source instructions. Treat the URL as private: anyone who obtains it may be able to view or use the widget, so do not show it on stream or share it publicly.

Configure a YouTube Super Chat Goal
A Super Chat Goal gives viewers a visible target and progress indicator. Streamlabs’ setup directions cover its label, target amount, end condition, colors, and font.
- Set the goal’s label and target amount in Streamlabs.
- Choose when the goal should end, then adjust colors and font for readability against your scene.
- Add the widget from Streamlabs Desktop, or copy its URL and use it as a Browser Source in OBS.
- Preview the widget before going live. Keep its label and target legible at the size it will occupy on screen.
Streamlabs cautions that the goal widget URL should not be shown on stream or shared publicly. See its YouTube Super Chat Goal instructions for the detailed configuration.

Choose widgets by the job they need to do

Start with the one or two elements that solve a real presentation problem. Adding every available widget can clutter a scene. Streamlabs presents widgets as engagement or monetization tools, but its cited pages do not establish a measured lift in engagement, retention, or revenue.
Cost and theme access
Streamlabs’ Alert Box product page describes Alert Box as free, with provided designs and sounds and the option to upload assets. It presents Streamlabs Ultra as an optional way to access its broader library of overlays and widget and alert themes. Plan boundaries can change, so check the current Alert Box page for the terms that apply to your account. The cited page does not state a price.
