To run recorded math lessons as a continuous YouTube livestream, send the lesson file or playlist to YouTube through an encoder such as OBS Studio, enable looping, and keep the computer, encoder, power, and internet connection running. First verify the channel and confirm you have permission to stream every part of the lessons. Because this is content for children, set the audience designation accurately in YouTube Studio before going live.
Before you start
- A verified YouTube channel: YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance.
- Lesson files you can use: Check that every video and audio track plays properly. Confirm that you have the rights to stream and archive the lesson recordings, music, illustrations, slides, and any third-party excerpts.
- A computer and encoder: For the do-it-yourself setup below, install OBS Studio and keep the computer powered on and connected to the internet for as long as you want the stream to run.
- Enough upload capacity: Check upload speed, not just download speed. YouTube recommends 20% headroom over the total stream bitrate; its guidance does not guarantee that a connection will remain uninterrupted. See YouTube’s recommended encoder settings and bandwidth guidance.
Decide how to identify the audience
When you create the stream, choose the audience setting that accurately reflects the content and the intended audience. YouTube says creators must indicate whether content is made for kids, and educational content for young children is one factor to consider. Do not assume that every educational or family-safe video has the same classification; make the assessment for your actual lessons and presentation. YouTube’s guidance on content made for kids explains the designation and notes that selecting it does not, by itself, guarantee inclusion in the YouTube Kids app.
If you designate the stream as made for kids, expect restrictions on features including live chat, comments, notifications, and personalized advertising. Plan a viewing experience that does not depend on those features. YouTube lists the applicable restrictions in its made-for-kids feature guidance.
Set up a looping lesson stream with OBS
- Enable livestreaming and create a stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream, and set the audience designation. YouTube’s livestreaming setup instructions cover eligibility and getting started.
- Copy the stream key into OBS. In the Live Control Room, find the stream key and enter it in OBS’s stream settings for YouTube. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
- Add one lesson file. In OBS, add a Media Source, select the video file, and enable Loop. OBS documents the Media Source and its looping option in its media source documentation.
- Or add a playlist. For multiple lessons, add a VLC Video Source, choose the files in the order you want, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS documents this option in its VLC Video Source guide. Check the sequence yourself; the tool loops the playlist but does not decide an educational order.
- Set the video and audio output. Choose an output resolution and bitrate OBS can sustain on your connection, and configure the encoder for YouTube. YouTube publishes recommended settings, including frame rate, keyframe interval, and bitrate ranges, in its encoder settings guide. Keep total bitrate within the upload capacity available to the computer, leaving YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
- Start with a test, not a public 24/7 commitment. Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview before making the stream public. Confirm the picture, sound, lesson transitions, and the watch page on a separate device, including a mobile device. YouTube recommends setting up in advance, previewing, checking local archive files, and monitoring audio and video; see its live streaming tips.
- Keep OBS and the computer running. A local OBS stream depends on the computer, power, network, and source files continuing to work. A restart, lost connection, power interruption, or encoder problem can stop playback. Monitor the stream and have a way to restore it.
Plan for reliability and replays
Do not rely on YouTube for a complete 24-hour replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single continuous 24/7 broadcast is therefore not a dependable way to preserve a complete replay. Keep the original lesson files and make a separate local recording or archive plan if you need copies. Check YouTube’s current archive guidance before relying on a particular behavior.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Prepare for connection problems
- Measure upload capacity while the stream is running under realistic household or office network conditions; leave at least the 20% headroom YouTube recommends over total stream bitrate.
- Use a stable connection and monitor the encoder and Live Control Room. A wired connection is an option, not a guarantee against disconnection.
- Keep source files on the computer and preserve separate copies. If OBS or the computer stops, a local file alone will not resume the YouTube stream until the encoder reconnects.
- Test recovery before depending on the stream: verify that you can restart the encoder, reconnect with the correct key, and confirm playback on the watch page.
Copyright, safety, and platform rules
YouTube places responsibility for necessary rights on the person providing the live content. Its terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read the relevant YouTube Terms of Service, and confirm permissions for every included element, not only the spoken lesson. You must also follow applicable law and YouTube’s Community Guidelines.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The stream does not start | The channel is not eligible, the key is wrong, or the encoder is not connected. | Confirm channel verification and livestream eligibility, then copy the current stream key from YouTube Studio into OBS. Reset the key if it may have been exposed. |
| The stream buffers or disconnects | Upload bandwidth is insufficient or fluctuating, or the computer/network has been interrupted. | Check upload capacity while streaming, reduce output bitrate if needed, preserve YouTube’s recommended headroom, and inspect the encoder and network connection. |
| The lesson ends instead of repeating | Looping is not enabled for the source, or the playlist source is configured differently than intended. | For one file, check Loop in Media Source properties. For a VLC playlist, check Loop Playlist and verify the selected files play in the intended order. |
| The picture works but lesson audio is missing | The source audio is muted, routed incorrectly, or absent from the file. | Play the file locally, inspect OBS audio meters and mute controls, and listen to the YouTube preview before going public. |
| The stream is live but viewers cannot use chat or comments | The content is designated made for kids, so YouTube restricts certain features. | Check the audience designation and YouTube’s made-for-kids feature rules. Do not change the designation merely to enable interaction. |
| A long broadcast has no complete replay | YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as archives. | Keep source lesson files and use a separate recording or archive process when a complete replay matters. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I stream prerecorded math lessons on YouTube Live?
Yes. An encoder such as OBS can send a recorded file or looping playlist to YouTube Live, provided the channel is eligible and you have rights to the material.
Will a 24/7 stream always produce a full YouTube replay?
No. YouTube warns that broadcasts longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive, so keep source files and plan separate recording if a complete replay is important.
