You can stream recorded IIT lectures continuously on YouTube by sending an authorized playlist or video playback feed to YouTube Live through an encoder or cloud streaming service. First confirm you have permission to rebroadcast every recording and everything it contains. Then set up the channel and stream in YouTube Live Control Room, connect an encoder using the stream URL and key, preview the feed, and plan how you will monitor and recover it. A 24/7 broadcast is an ongoing operation—not simply an upload placed on loop.
1. Confirm rights before you schedule a lecture stream
Being able to watch a lecture online, or using it for education, does not automatically give you permission to rebroadcast it. Confirm who controls the rights to each recording and whether the permission covers continuous streaming on YouTube, the intended territories, and all included material such as slides, music, images, and third-party clips. The particular IIT, lecture, rights holder, and permission terms vary, so verify them for your material rather than assuming one rule covers every recording.
YouTube’s livestream terms place the responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights for exploitation of the live content on Google services worldwide: YouTube livestream terms. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder, trigger a warning, or interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Even when a rights holder has licensed material for your stream, the channel may need to be added to that owner’s Content ID allowlist to avoid interruptions: YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance.
- Keep written permission or license terms accessible to the people operating the channel.
- Check that the permission covers the full recording and embedded materials, not only the lecturer’s spoken content.
- If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask whether the channel must be allowlisted before you go live.
Copyright permission is not monetization approval
YouTube Partner Program review is a separate issue from whether you have permission to broadcast. YouTube says channels should offer original, authentic content; republishing material with little change may fail its reused-content review even if permission exists. A channel seeking monetization should make its own educational contribution and value clear. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 policy update clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content is covered by its inauthentic-content policy. Read the current YouTube channel monetization policies and inauthentic-content guidance.

2. Choose how to keep the recorded lectures playing
The encoder takes the video playback feed and sends it to YouTube Live. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. Choose a route based on whether you can keep local equipment running, how you will recover from interruptions, and what ongoing costs and storage you need.
| Route | What it involves | Best fit and checks |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo (cloud) | Upload recordings, add your YouTube stream key, and start the stream; StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud. | Useful if you do not want a computer or home connection to remain on. It supports uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with the first day free and no card. Confirm your rights and content workflow as with any route. StreamNeo |
| Software encoder on a computer | Run playback and encoder software on a computer that remains powered, connected, and monitored. | Can suit a small operation with an available computer and an operator who can check playback and recover failures. Confirm the software supports the repeat or playlist workflow you need; YouTube’s setup guide explains its encoder connection: YouTube encoder setup. |
| Other cloud streaming service | A cloud provider handles the playback and sends the stream to YouTube. | YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming and Upstream as a 24/7 cloud studio. The directory is not an independent reliability test or a guarantee of current features, price, uptime, file limits, or availability in India; verify those details with the provider: YouTube streaming tools directory. |
| Dedicated encoder hardware | Use a standalone encoder rather than a general-purpose computer. | YouTube lists AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder and says optional PlayToStream functionality can schedule prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. Check current device capability, setup, and cost before buying: YouTube streaming tools directory. |
YouTube says verified encoders are made by their respective providers, not YouTube. Compare options by total cost, continuous playback and scheduled restart support, who monitors and recovers outages, bandwidth and redundancy, storage and archive handling, and the provider’s rights-management workflow. The YouTube directory does not establish neutral prices, reliability, or country-specific availability.

3. Set up the YouTube Live stream
- Enable live streaming early. In the channel’s YouTube Studio, follow the live-stream activation process. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup requirements.
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling provides a watch-page URL to share and can show the event as upcoming to subscribers. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup steps for the current Live Control Room workflow.
- Copy the ingest details into your encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder’s server and key fields. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Prefer encrypted ingest when available. If your encoder supports RTMPS, use the RTMPS URL provided in Live Control Room. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL: YouTube RTMPS guidance.
- Start playback and inspect the preview. Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview. Check that the correct lecture is playing and that both picture and sound are present before selecting the go-live action in Live Control Room.
- Verify the public event. Open the watch page as a viewer and confirm the stream is accessible and playing as intended. Do not rely only on a local encoder status indicator.
4. Keep the stream available and plan for long broadcasts
A continuous stream can fail because of a network outage, encoder or hardware failure, a bad or missing source file, or a copyright interruption. Assign an operator to check the public watch page and encoder status, and decide who responds when the feed stops. Keep an accessible source library or local archive where practical so playback can be restored without rebuilding the schedule.
- Leave network headroom. YouTube recommends 20% spare upload bandwidth beyond the stream’s needs. Its streaming tips also recommend continuous monitoring of audio and video quality: YouTube streaming tips.
- Check the viewer experience. Confirm the event can be reached from both the channel and the watch page, and check archive-file integrity when an event ends.
- Plan recovery. Decide in advance how the operator will restart playback or the encoder after a local failure, and how to respond to a Content ID warning or interruption.
Do not assume one event is an unlimited archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when ended. It does not promise automatic archiving for a stream that runs longer than 12 hours. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on streams exceeding 12 hours. If students need to replay lectures, plan event rotation and separate archive handling rather than treating an endless live event as the only copy: YouTube live-stream DVR and archive guidance.

5. Troubleshoot common interruptions
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | Live streaming is not activated, the channel is restricted, or the stream URL or key is wrong. | Check channel verification and restrictions, confirm activation has completed, and copy the current URL and key from Live Control Room. Reset an exposed key. |
| Preview appears, but the public stream has no picture or sound | The wrong playback source is selected, the source is silent, or the encoder is not sending the expected feed. | Inspect the preview before going live, verify the active lecture and audio, then check the public watch page after starting. |
| Stream stalls or drops repeatedly | Insufficient upload capacity, unstable local connectivity, or encoder/hardware failure. | Check continuous audio/video quality and available upload capacity; preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% spare upload bandwidth. Identify an operator and a recovery path. |
| Stream is replaced or interrupted with a copyright warning | YouTube detected a match in the lecture or included material; licensed content may also require Content ID allowlisting. | Do not assume educational use or public availability is permission. Confirm the license covers the broadcast and ask the rights holder about channel allowlisting. |
| Lecture replay or DVR is unavailable after a very long broadcast | The event exceeded YouTube’s stated 12-hour archive or DVR behavior threshold. | End and rotate events under 12 hours when automatic archiving is needed, and manage lecture archives separately. |
