You can set up YouTube Live Redirect in YouTube Studio by editing the source livestream, opening Customization, and adding an eligible Premiere or another channel’s livestream as its destination. The sending channel must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. YouTube’s documentation does not explicitly confirm that the redirect controls work with every 24/7 prerecorded-stream encoder setup, so verify the option is available for your specific source stream before relying on it.
What Live Redirect does—and whether it fits a 24/7 stream
Live Redirect is an end-of-stream handoff: when your source livestream ends, YouTube can move viewers to a selected Premiere or another channel’s livestream. It is not a way to move viewers while the source stream is still running. YouTube advises telling viewers to wait briefly while the destination loads. If a viewer has autoplay turned off, they may need to click Play.
YouTube documents encoder streaming and Live Redirect separately. Its official help pages do not guarantee that every 24/7 stream made from prerecorded video, or every encoder configuration, will expose the redirect setting. Treat compatibility as something to confirm in the channel’s Live Control Room or Studio for the actual source stream—not as a guaranteed property of all prerecorded streams.
Check eligibility and destination permissions
- Sending channel: YouTube Help says the channel setting up the redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes.
- Destination: You can choose an eligible Premiere or another channel’s livestream. To redirect viewers to another creator’s livestream, that creator must allow your channel to redirect to it.
- Destination availability: The other channel needs an active or upcoming livestream or Premiere. If it does not appear in the destination search, check its redirect permissions and timing.
- Format: YouTube’s feature comparison lists Live Redirect for horizontal livestreams, but not vertical live feeds.
Set up the redirect in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Content.
- Select the Live tab.
- Find the source stream, hover over it, and select Edit.
- Open Customization.
- Under Redirect, select Add.
- Choose a Premiere or search for an eligible livestream on another channel. If prompted, save the setting.
- Before depending on the handoff for a 24/7 prerecorded source, confirm that the redirect setting remains available for that stream in your account.
Configure it from Live Control Room if needed
TeamYouTube has also described configuring Live Redirect in Live Control Room. The current YouTube Studio route above is the clearest documented path; if the labels or controls differ in your account, check the source stream’s Live Control Room settings. Google’s illustrated setup material dates to November 2020, so its interface labels may no longer match exactly.

End the source stream and prepare viewers for the handoff
When you are ready to send viewers onward, end the source stream so YouTube can perform the handoff. Tell viewers in advance that their screens may take a few seconds to reload. The handoff is not necessarily a seamless transition for everyone: viewers with autoplay disabled may have to select Play themselves.
Troubleshoot missing settings or a failed handoff
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| No Redirect option on the source stream | Confirm the sending channel meets YouTube’s stated threshold of more than 1,000 subscribers and has no Community Guideline strikes. Check that the source is horizontal, then look in the stream’s Customization settings or Live Control Room. YouTube’s documentation does not establish that every prerecorded encoder setup supports the control. |
| The other channel does not appear as a destination | Ask the destination creator to permit redirects from your channel, and confirm that their livestream or Premiere is active or upcoming. |
| Viewers stay on the source or see no automatic playback | Remind viewers that autoplay must be enabled for automatic playback; otherwise, they may need to click Play. Allow a few seconds for the destination to load. |
| You are using a vertical live feed | Live Redirect is listed as unavailable for vertical live feeds. Use a horizontal livestream if the redirect feature is required. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded video running on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate way to run the stream: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it also includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded video, not camera broadcasts.
