To mix portrait and landscape property-tour clips in one YouTube Live broadcast, choose the live output format before going live, then frame each clip without stretching it. YouTube’s Live Control Room supports horizontal 16:9 and vertical 9:16 outputs; its vertical view can use a center crop, fit-to-phone-width, or stacked layout. The layout controls help, but the playlist playback and transitions depend on the encoder or software you choose, so test the full sequence before broadcasting.

Decide which live formats you need

A single horizontal stream is simpler to compose, but portrait footage may occupy only part of the frame unless you design a background or choose a crop. YouTube Live Control Room can also provide horizontal and vertical versions together. YouTube describes the formats as 16:9 horizontal and 9:16 vertical. Its default vertical view is a center crop of the horizontal output, but you can change the vertical layout and adjust its zoom and position. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.

In a dual-format live, mobile viewers watching in the Shorts feed see the vertical version; other viewers see horizontal. Both formats use the same live URL and chat. YouTube’s comparison says clickable chat and channel-description links are available for horizontal streams, but not in the vertical live feed. YouTube says vertical-only metrics may take up to 24 hours to become available. These audience details are described in YouTube’s format comparison.

Prepare the property-tour clips

  1. Sort clips by orientation. Make portrait and landscape groups, and note each clip’s dimensions. Identify details near the edges—such as a doorway, window, room boundary, or facade edge—that must remain in frame. This is a practical review step, not a claim that YouTube automatically detects or reframes every clip.
  2. Choose the intended output. Decide whether you need one horizontal feed or simultaneous horizontal and vertical feeds. If using YouTube’s Live Control Room vertical layout, set it before starting: YouTube says you cannot add the vertical format after the live stream has begun.
  3. Build a sample composition for each mismatch. Preview portrait footage in the horizontal canvas and landscape footage in the vertical canvas. Consider a background or stacked composition where fitting the whole image leaves unused space; use a crop only when the lost edges do not remove useful property context.
  4. Preserve proportions. Do not stretch footage to fill the canvas. Stretching distorts the image; cropping cuts off content. OBS’s aspect-ratio guide recommends filling unused space with other content or designing the scene around the source rather than distorting it.
  5. Review transitions and movement. Test representative clips with camera movement, audio, and transitions. Check that the right footage reaches each output and that important spatial details remain visible throughout the sequence.

Set up the YouTube layouts

Using YouTube Live Control Room’s dual-format behavior

Configure the horizontal and vertical versions in Live Control Room before going live. Inspect the vertical preview and select the treatment that suits the footage: center crop, fit to phone width, or stacked. Adjust zoom and position where available, then review the result against the actual property details rather than assuming the default center crop will preserve them.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

These layout options determine how the outputs are framed; they do not establish that YouTube itself will loop a playlist of prerecorded clips or automatically switch to a purpose-built composition for every clip. Choose and verify the playback and scene-switching workflow separately.

Sending separate outputs from an encoder

  1. In Live Control Room, select the encoder and RTMP(S) path for dual streaming, following YouTube’s encoder instructions.
  2. Select the second stream key for the vertical output.
  3. Route landscape content to the horizontal key and correctly formatted portrait content to the vertical key. Confirm the orientation and framing for each feed in a test before the public broadcast.

Maintaining two keyed outputs adds setup and checking work: you must ensure that each key receives the matching format. The available YouTube guidance describes the dual-output setup, but does not certify how a particular encoder handles orientation changes in a mixed playlist.

Encoder settings and a preflight test

When you use an encoder with Live Control Room, set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate in the encoder. YouTube detects those settings and transcodes the feed for different devices and network conditions. Its current encoder settings and bitrate guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP(S), supports frame rates up to 60 fps, recommends CBR and RTMPS, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds.

Bitrate recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so consult YouTube’s current table for your actual output instead of treating one figure as universal. For example, YouTube lists 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p, 30 fps. Those are recommendations, not a guarantee that your connection or encoder will sustain the stream.

What YouTube does—and does not—provide for a prerecorded loop

YouTube’s live-format instructions explain how to create and frame horizontal and vertical outputs, but they do not prescribe a native method for continuously looping a playlist of prerecorded property clips. Nor do they certify seamless switching between portrait and landscape scenes for a particular encoder. Select playback software or an encoder workflow separately, then verify the complete playlist, orientation changes, and transitions in a test stream. YouTube’s LiveStreams API documentation covers ingestion and stream health; it is not a recipe for a prerecorded playlist loop.

Copyright and channel-policy checks

Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights needed for every video, photograph, music track, voiceover, and other element in the loop. Property footage can include material owned by someone else, such as licensed music or a photographer’s work; permission to show a property does not automatically establish rights to every asset in the recording. Also review YouTube’s current live-streaming and channel policies for your use case. A technical test cannot establish that the content complies with copyright rules or other platform policies.
