Use one steady frame rate for the live encoder output; do not try to change it every time a 24 fps or 30 fps clip starts. For a playlist that includes both, 30 fps is a practical starting point when 30 fps clips matter, while 24 fps can suit a workflow that prioritizes 24 fps motion. Neither is a special YouTube requirement: test both types of footage and transitions before going public.
Keep source frame rate separate from live output
A 24 fps or 30 fps source file and the frame rate sent by your live encoder are different settings. YouTube’s upload guidance recommends encoding standalone uploads at the frame rate at which they were recorded; it lists common rates including 24 and 30 fps. That guidance does not require a live encoder to switch output rates between playlist clips. YouTube’s upload encoding guidance covers uploaded videos.
For a live broadcast, set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate in the encoder. YouTube says Live Control Room detects the encoder settings, supports live input up to 60 fps, and transcodes the stream into multiple viewer formats. Transcoding creates viewer renditions; it is not a setting for changing the incoming live cadence clip by clip. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
Choose a stable output cadence
| Encoder output | When it may suit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| 30 fps | A straightforward starting choice when the playlist includes important 30 fps footage. | Look for judder or uneven motion in 24 fps clips, as well as audio sync issues. |
| 24 fps | A possible choice when preserving the feel of 24 fps motion is the priority. | Check how 30 fps footage looks at the chosen output cadence, including movement and transitions. |
These are workflow options, not YouTube-mandated choices. YouTube’s published guidance does not specify whether OBS or YouTube handles mixed-rate media by repeating frames, dropping frames, or interpolating them, nor does it guarantee seamless playlist transitions. Decide using representative footage from your actual playlist rather than assuming a particular conversion method.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set bitrate and encoder options to match the output
Choose the bitrate row for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually send. For 1080p30 live ingestion, YouTube’s current recommended values are:
| Video codec | Recommended bitrate at 1080p30 |
|---|---|
| H.264 | 14 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 10 Mbps |
Those figures apply to the specified 1080p30 setting, not to every resolution, frame rate, or codec. Consult the matching row in YouTube’s bitrate table if you use different settings.

- Use constant bitrate (CBR).
- Set a 2-second keyframe interval; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS for ingestion and recommends RTMPS. Supported listed video codecs include H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1.
Build and preflight an OBS playlist
OBS’s VLC Video source can play a list sequentially or shuffled and can loop; VLC must be installed. The OBS documentation describes playlist controls, but does not promise seamless transitions or a particular mixed-frame-rate conversion result. See OBS Media Sources.
- Install VLC, then add a VLC Video source to the OBS scene you will stream.
- Add the playlist files and choose sequential playback or shuffle, then enable looping if the stream should repeat.
- Set the OBS video output to one frame rate for the whole broadcast, such as 30 fps as a starting point for a mixed playlist. Do not change it for each clip.
- Set the output resolution, codec, bitrate, CBR, and 2-second keyframe interval to match the YouTube live encoder guidance and the connection available to the encoder.
- Preview a representative 24 fps clip, a 30 fps clip, and their transitions. Check fast movement for judder or uneven cadence, listen for audio discontinuities, and verify audio stays synchronized.
- Run an unlisted or otherwise non-public test before the public stream. Check YouTube stream health and confirm the actual output is stable.
YouTube recommends allowing about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and monitoring stream health while live. A connection that only just matches the configured bitrate has less room for normal fluctuations. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Use matching settings for a backup ingest
If you send both primary and backup ingest feeds, set them to the same frame rate. YouTube’s Live Streaming API identifies a primary/backup frame-rate mismatch as a stream health issue; see LiveStreams in the YouTube Live Streaming API.
Troubleshoot mixed-rate playlist problems
- Motion looks uneven in one type of clip: Test the other stable output cadence (24 or 30 fps) with the same section of footage. Choose the result that best serves the important motion in your playlist.
- A transition stutters or briefly freezes: Test that exact pair of files in the OBS scene and confirm both decode and play as expected. OBS documents playlist playback, not guaranteed seamless transitions.
- Audio drifts or breaks up: Check audio sync on each source and across the transition during a test stream. Avoid relying only on a static preview; include representative movement and sound.
- YouTube reports stream health problems: Confirm the encoder is sending the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval. Check the upload connection and leave the recommended bandwidth headroom.
- Primary and backup feeds disagree: Match their frame rates, then recheck stream health.
