For a 720p, 30 fps YouTube Live stream, set OBS to 1280×720 at 30 fps, use H.264 with CBR, and set a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube’s current guidance recommends 8 Mbps video bitrate for this format and lists 3 Mbps as the minimum. Whether your JioFiber connection can sustain 8 Mbps while streaming depends on its actual upload performance at broadcast time, so test before going live.

YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends 8 Mbps and gives 3 Mbps as the minimum for H.264 at 720p30. It recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. These are platform settings, not guarantees of picture quality or a stable connection. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance also lists H.265 and AV1; H.264 is the conservative cross-device choice reflected in its table.
Where to set them in OBS
- Set the canvas and output size: Open Settings → Video. Set Base (Canvas) Resolution to 1280×720 if your scene is built at 720p, and set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280×720. Choose Common FPS Values and enter 30.
- Set encoding: Open Settings → Output. If OBS is in Simple output mode, switch Output Mode to Advanced. Under the Streaming tab, select an H.264 encoder available on your computer, set Rate Control to CBR, Bitrate to 8000 Kbps to start if your upload test supports it, and Keyframe Interval to 2 seconds. Encoder names and available hardware options depend on the computer; there is no single best encoder for every system.
- Set audio: In the streaming output settings, use AAC if the option is exposed there. YouTube lists 128 kbps for stereo audio. Confirm the audio track you intend to send is enabled in OBS.
- Connect YouTube: In Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service and connect your account or enter the stream key from YouTube Studio. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Prefer the secure ingest protocol: Use RTMPS when it is available in the service or server options. YouTube describes RTMPS as the secure extension that encrypts data sent to its servers.
OBS labels and the encoder choices shown can vary by version and operating system. The settings that matter for this format are the output dimensions and frame rate, H.264, CBR, bitrate, keyframe interval, protocol, and audio format.
Will JioFiber upload speed be enough?
The plan’s advertised upload speed is a starting clue, not proof that your connection can sustain a live stream at that rate. Jio describes JioFiber speeds as symmetric, and its plan comparison includes examples of 30 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 150 Mbps upload matching download speed. Those are plan descriptions, not measurements of an individual subscriber’s performance during a broadcast. See JioFiber’s plan comparison.

Run an upload speed test under conditions close to the planned stream. Allow capacity for audio, protocol overhead, other household traffic, and ordinary fluctuations; the available evidence does not establish one universal buffer percentage. If upload performance is inconsistent at 8 Mbps, test a lower video bitrate within YouTube’s listed H.264 range, down to 3 Mbps, and check the resulting stream health and picture.
How to choose between 8 Mbps and a lower bitrate
- Start at 8,000 kbps when the upload test and preflight show stable headroom.
- If OBS or YouTube reports connection instability, lower the bitrate in measured steps and test again; do not assume a plan’s advertised speed will be sustained.
- Higher bitrate can preserve more visual detail, particularly in motion, but requires more continuous upload capacity. Lower bitrate reduces network demand and may cost detail.
- Compare the actual result in a test broadcast: connection stability, OBS rendering or encoding performance, YouTube’s stream-health messages, and the visual quality on playback.
Test the stream before the event
- Set the same scenes, game or video motion, and audio sources you plan to use during the real broadcast.
- Start a test stream and check OBS for dropped frames, rendering or encoding overload, and audio levels.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators while the test is running. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and the stream before going live, using representative audio and motion.
- If the stream is unstable, first reduce video bitrate and test again. If OBS reports rendering or encoding overload, the issue may be computer performance rather than upload capacity; the right encoder or preset depends on your hardware.
- Watch the test playback to assess detail and audio sync, not just the numbers shown by a speed test.
What viewers receive from YouTube
OBS sends one configured ingest stream. YouTube processes that input into multiple viewer formats, and the rendition a viewer receives can vary with YouTube’s processing, device, and network. The OBS bitrate is therefore not necessarily the bitrate shown to every viewer. OBS’s knowledge base describes transcoding as converting a source feed into multiple output feeds and advises staying within the platform’s recommended keyframe interval: OBS streaming guidelines.

Troubleshoot common problems
YouTube reports an unstable stream or OBS shows dropped frames
Check the actual upload performance during the stream, including other household use. Reduce the video bitrate and repeat the test. A JioFiber plan’s stated speed alone cannot identify whether the cause is momentary upload variation, competing traffic, or another network issue.
The connection is stable but the image lacks detail
Confirm the output is actually 1280×720 at 30 fps and that the stream is using the intended bitrate. If the connection remains stable in a representative test, compare a higher bitrate up to YouTube’s 8 Mbps recommendation. Raising bitrate without confirming upload stability can make the stream less reliable.

The stream health is good but OBS reports encoding or rendering overload
This points to OBS processing performance rather than a proven JioFiber upload problem. Check the encoder and system load, then test again. The appropriate hardware encoder or software preset cannot be prescribed without knowing the computer’s hardware and OBS configuration.
The video works but audio is missing or unsuitable
Verify that the correct OBS audio source is active and routed to the streaming track. For a straightforward stereo stream, use AAC at YouTube’s listed 128 kbps recommendation, then confirm sound in test playback.

The keyframe setting is unavailable or does not match the instructions
Check that OBS is in Advanced output mode and that you are editing the streaming encoder settings rather than recording settings. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.

Use only game footage, music, overlays, and other material you have the rights or permission to broadcast. A live stream can be interrupted or restricted if it includes copyrighted material; having access to a track or game does not automatically grant live-broadcast rights. Review YouTube’s current rules in its live encoder guidance and the applicable channel and copyright policies before an event. Avoid assuming that a technically healthy stream will remain available if its content violates YouTube rules.
