Yes. A church can schedule a finished sermon as a YouTube Premiere instead of sending it continuously through an encoder-based livestream. A Premiere gives viewers a shared scheduled watch, countdown, and live chat; the sermon then remains on the channel as a regular upload. Choose it for a planned release of one finished video. Choose an encoder-based stream when you need to transmit a real-time feed or use YouTube’s livestream workflow.
Premiere and continuous livestream are different workflows

YouTube describes livestreams as media broadcast in real time, while Premieres let a community watch a new video together in real time. The shared viewing element can make a Premiere feel event-like, but it does not turn the uploaded file into an encoder feed. See YouTube’s overview of live streams and Premieres.
When a church should choose a Premiere
Use a Premiere when the sermon is complete and the goal is to release it at a planned time with an advance page, reminders, countdown, and simultaneous chat. The upload workflow also leaves the sermon available as an ordinary channel video after the event, which is useful for people who could not attend at the scheduled time.
YouTube recommends scheduling a Premiere at least 24 hours ahead so audiences have an opportunity to see its thumbnail in their subscriptions feed. That is a recommendation, not a guarantee that viewers will see it. Review YouTube’s Premiere tips.

Check format limits before uploading
YouTube’s current Premiere help page says Shorts, 360/VR180 videos, and output above 1080p are unsupported. Confirm the current requirements and Studio options before preparing the congregation’s video, since platform features can change. See YouTube’s Premiere guidance.
When an encoder-based livestream fits better
Use the livestream workflow when the church needs to transmit a feed in real time rather than simply schedule a finished sermon. YouTube Studio provides the event workflow, and an encoder sends the feed using the stream URL and key. YouTube recommends checking the preview, confirming the event is accessible, and monitoring audio and video while it is running. YouTube also says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started; equipment alone is not a reason to choose a Premiere or a livestream.

A channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days to livestream, according to YouTube’s live-stream setup information. This is a livestream condition, not a stated Premiere requirement. For the encoder workflow and checks, use YouTube’s live streaming guidance.
How to combine a live opening with the sermon Premiere
If you want a brief live welcome or prayer followed by the scheduled sermon, YouTube’s Live Redirect can send viewers from a live stream to a Premiere when the live stream ends. YouTube currently limits the redirect feature to creators with more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Questions the format choice cannot settle
YouTube’s format documentation explains the mechanics, but it does not specifically recommend Premieres or continuous prerecorded streams for churches, nor does it establish the policy status or audience performance of continuous prerecorded sermon streams. It also does not answer church-specific rights, licensing, pastoral, or congregation-preference questions. Assess those against the actual sermon, music, permissions, and needs of your congregation rather than treating a particular publishing format as a substitute for that review.
