If YouTube Live Redirect is not showing for mobile viewers, first check whether they are watching a vertical live stream or its Shorts-feed version. YouTube lists Live Redirect as available for horizontal live streams and unavailable for vertical live streams. For an eligible horizontal stream, check the creator’s eligibility, destination-channel permission, redirect settings, and the brief reload delay after the source ends.
Why Live Redirect may not appear on mobile
Live Redirect sends viewers from a live stream or Premiere to a selected Premiere or another channel’s live stream after the source ends. The key documented difference is the stream format, not the viewer’s phone brand or operating system: YouTube’s feature comparison lists redirect support for horizontal live streams, but not vertical live streams.
Vertical live streams open in a full-screen mobile experience and can be discovered in the Shorts feed. If affected viewers are watching that version, the vertical-format limitation is the first thing to investigate. Do not assume that a viewer watching the Shorts-feed version will get the same redirect behavior as someone watching the horizontal stream.
Troubleshoot the redirect in order
- Identify what viewers are watching. Confirm whether the source is horizontal or vertical, and whether affected viewers are watching the vertical experience in the Shorts feed. Live Redirect is documented as supported for horizontal streams and unsupported for vertical streams.
- Check the sender’s eligibility. YouTube’s current Help guidance says the creator sending viewers to a redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes.
- Check permission from the destination channel. Redirecting viewers to another channel’s live stream requires that channel to grant permission in YouTube Studio. The destination can allow redirects from channels it subscribes to, all channels, or specifically approved channels.
- Confirm the redirect is set on the correct source. In YouTube Studio, open Content, then Live. Edit the source video, open Customization, choose Redirect, and select a Premiere or another channel’s live stream.
- Wait briefly after the source ends. YouTube advises creators to tell viewers to wait a few seconds while their screens reload. Its setup guidance describes an expected interval of approximately two seconds.
Separate mobile streaming eligibility from redirect eligibility
Mobile live-streaming requirements are not the same as Live Redirect requirements. YouTube’s mobile guidance says a creator needs at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, live streaming enabled, and no live-streaming restrictions within the prior 90 days. YouTube may limit the audience for mobile streams from channels below 1,000 subscribers. After reaching 1,000 subscribers, lifting that audience limit can take several weeks.

Meeting the requirements to stream from a phone does not by itself establish eligibility to send viewers through Live Redirect. Check the redirect sender requirements separately.
If an eligible horizontal redirect still fails
If the source is horizontal, the sender meets YouTube’s stated eligibility rules, the destination has granted permission where required, and the redirect is configured correctly, the official guidance does not identify a particular mobile app version, phone model, or operating system defect as the cause. The documented information establishes a format limitation and setup conditions, not a device-by-device diagnosis.

- Ask an affected viewer whether they watched the horizontal stream or the vertical/Shorts-feed version.
- Verify that the selected destination is the intended Premiere or live stream and that any cross-channel permission is in place.
- Have viewers wait a few seconds after the source ends for the screen to reload.
- If the issue persists for horizontal viewers after those checks, investigate the specific app and viewing circumstances without assuming a general mobile-device bug.
