You set up YouTube Live Redirect in YouTube Studio—not in OBS. Choose an eligible Premiere or another channel’s live stream as the destination, start your OBS feed, then end the source broadcast in Live Control Room. YouTube handles the handoff after the source stream ends; viewers may need to wait for the page to reload, and anyone with autoplay off must press Play.
Before you set up a redirect
Check the feature’s requirements and prepare the destination before going live. YouTube’s current Live Redirect guidance says a channel sending viewers must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. These are Live Redirect requirements, separate from general live-streaming access: YouTube’s live-streaming guidance also requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
- For your own Premiere: schedule or set it up before the source stream. YouTube recommends preparing the Premiere in advance.
- For another channel’s live stream: confirm the receiving channel allows your channel to redirect to it. Its creator controls that permission in YouTube Studio.
Studio labels and eligibility can change, so check the current settings in your account if an option described here is not visible.
Choose the destination that fits your handoff
| Destination | Best suited to | What to prepare | Who controls availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your channel’s Premiere | Building anticipation for your own scheduled video | Set up the Premiere before the source stream | Your channel |
| Another channel’s live stream | Passing viewers to another creator’s broadcast | Confirm the destination is available and that the receiving channel permits your channel to redirect | The receiving channel controls redirect permissions |
YouTube describes Live Redirect as a way to send viewers to a Premiere or another channel’s live stream. Its help guidance does not provide measured audience-retention or growth outcomes, so treat the redirect as a handoff feature, not a guaranteed way to increase views.

Set up YouTube Live Redirect with OBS
- Create or select the source stream in YouTube Studio. Open Content, select Live, and open the source live video you want to edit.
- Choose the destination. In the source video’s Customization settings, find Redirect, select Add, then choose an available Premiere or live stream. If the destination is another channel’s broadcast, it must permit your channel to redirect to it.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, select YouTube as the streaming service if offered. Otherwise, enter the YouTube server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers connecting an encoder and sending its feed.
- Start the feed and confirm the preview. Start streaming from OBS. Wait for the feed to appear in YouTube Live Control Room, then select Go live there. OBS sends the video and audio; the redirect destination is selected in YouTube Studio, not OBS.
- End the source broadcast cleanly. When the event is over, end the stream in Live Control Room and stop sending content from OBS as appropriate. YouTube starts the redirect after the source stream ends.
- Tell viewers what to expect. Let them know the page may take a few seconds to reload. Viewers who have autoplay disabled need to click Play to continue to the destination.
If the destination is missing or the handoff does not happen
- You cannot find the Redirect setting: check that you opened the source live video’s Customization section in Studio, and confirm your channel meets YouTube’s Live Redirect eligibility requirements.
- Another channel’s stream is not listed: confirm that the destination is available and that its creator allows your channel to redirect. YouTube’s settings include permission choices such as channels the creator subscribes to, all channels, or specifically approved channels. The manual approval list supports up to 100 channels, according to YouTube’s current guidance. Verify the options shown in Studio before relying on a particular setting.
- The source stream does not start: confirm OBS is using the correct YouTube server URL and stream key, and wait for the preview in Live Control Room before selecting Go live.
- Viewers remain on the source page: allow time for the page to reload. If a viewer has autoplay disabled, they must click Play to enter the destination.
Or let it run in the cloud
Live Redirect is a YouTube-side handoff after a source stream ends; it does not replace OBS for a live production. If your separate goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo runs that stream in the cloud:
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.
Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery restarts the stream if YouTube drops it. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. See StreamNeo pricing for the available billing lengths. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
