To schedule a YouTube Live playlist with OBS on a Windows PC, create the event in YouTube Studio, build the ordered playlist in OBS’s VLC Video source, then connect OBS to the scheduled event using its stream URL and key. YouTube Studio schedules the broadcast; OBS supplies the video and audio feed. There is no separate India-only OBS scheduling control described in YouTube’s general guidance.
Before you set up the stream
- Check channel eligibility: YouTube says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meet its minimum age requirement of 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Allow time for activation: First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Enable it before the day you intend to schedule or broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Install compatible software: OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC Media Player. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. Keep the video files accessible on the PC or a connected drive for the full broadcast. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation.
- Prepare the files: Choose the videos and their intended order. Check that you have permission to use the video and audio in a live broadcast; a scheduled event does not grant rights to copyrighted material.
Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, open Manage, then select Schedule Stream.
- Choose Create new to make a new event, or Reuse settings if the existing event details are appropriate.
- Enter the event details, set the intended schedule and audience options, then save. YouTube’s encoder guide describes this scheduling flow at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Scheduling creates the YouTube event; it does not select a YouTube playlist to play automatically. The playlist in this workflow is a list of local media files that OBS sends as the live encoder feed.
Build the playlist in OBS
- Open the OBS scene you intend to use for the broadcast. In Sources, select + and add VLC Video Source. Give it a recognizable name.
- In the source properties, add the local media files in the order you want them played. If the source is unavailable, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off for listed order. Turn it on only if you want OBS to randomize the sequence.
- Set Loop Playlist according to how the event should end: off lets playback stop after the last file; on restarts the list from the beginning when it reaches the end.
- Check source visibility and audio settings, then play through every file or test representative sections. Confirm the picture appears in the scene and the intended audio is audible on the stream’s audio track. OBS lists these options in its VLC Video source documentation.
For a one-time event, leave looping off if you want the feed to stop after the playlist. For a continuous sequence, enable looping; playback will repeat, but OBS and the PC still need to remain running and connected.
Connect OBS to the scheduled YouTube event
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, open the scheduled event and locate its stream settings. Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube as the service and enter the stream details as prompted. Use the scheduled event’s key and URL rather than creating or selecting a different event’s credentials.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube warns that “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel. See Manage live stream settings.
- Set the OBS output resolution, frame rate and bitrate to values your upload connection can sustain and that are supported by YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance. Do not choose a bitrate solely because it is available in OBS: the total stream bitrate must fit your upload capacity.
- Start streaming in OBS ahead of the event. In Live Control Room, confirm the preview appears and check stream health before starting the scheduled broadcast. YouTube recommends preparing in advance and checking the preview; see YouTube’s streaming tips.
Check upload capacity and stream health
YouTube recommends leaving about 20% headroom between the stream’s total bitrate and available upload bandwidth. For example, a connection should have more upload capacity than the bitrate OBS is sending, with room for normal fluctuations. Test using representative motion and audio, not only a static screen, and monitor Live Control Room during the broadcast. Guidance: Streaming tips and encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.

Troubleshoot common problems
VLC Video source is missing
Install VLC Media Player and restart OBS. If OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC; a mismatch can prevent OBS from finding the VLC components required by the source.
The playlist order changes or does not repeat
Open the VLC Video source properties. Turn off Shuffle Playlist to preserve the listed order. Turn on Loop Playlist to restart the sequence after its final item; with looping off, playback ends at the last file.

The YouTube preview is blank or the event receives no feed
Confirm OBS is streaming, the scheduled event is open in Live Control Room, and OBS is using that event’s stream URL and key. Check that the VLC source is visible in the active scene and that its media files still exist at their saved locations.
Video appears but audio does not
Check the VLC source’s audio and track settings in OBS, then verify that the intended track is included in the stream output. Test with a file known to contain audio before the event.

Stream health reports connection or bitrate problems
Reduce OBS’s output bitrate or resolution if the upload connection cannot sustain the selected settings, and retest with movement and audio. Leave the recommended upload headroom; other devices or network activity can reduce the bandwidth available to the PC.
Live streaming is not available on the channel
Check YouTube’s eligibility requirements and activate live streaming in advance. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so it may not be available immediately after enabling it.
