YouTube does not document a built-in daily scheduler for playlist membership or ordering. To update a satsang playlist automatically, run a script on a schedule and have it use the YouTube Data API with authorized channel access. For a manual daily change, use YouTube Studio.
Decide what the daily playlist change should do
“Change the playlist” can mean several different operations. Choose the rule before setting up automation:
- Add today’s satsang: insert the new video into the existing playlist, either at the end or at a chosen position.
- Remove yesterday’s satsang: delete that video’s playlist entry. Decide whether older satsangs should remain or be removed according to a retention rule.
- Feature a particular video: update its position in the playlist. This requires the playlist’s ordering to be set to Manual.
The YouTube Data API provides separate methods for inserting, deleting, and updating playlist items; there is no single daily-playlist-change operation.
Choose manual editing or an automated workflow
Manual changes in YouTube Studio
For a channel where someone can make the change each day, manage the playlist in YouTube Studio. Studio supports managing playlist contents and reordering items, including by dragging items into the desired order. This avoids application setup and API quota use, but a person must perform and check each edit.

Unattended changes with a script
An automated setup needs an application or script that makes the appropriate API call, plus a separate scheduler to run it at the intended time. YouTube’s documented video-scheduling feature schedules a private video to become public; the reviewed documentation does not describe it as a scheduler for playlist membership or ordering. Scheduling and monitoring the script are implementation choices, not a built-in daily playlist feature.
Set up a reliable daily API workflow
- Write down the rule. Specify the target playlist, which video should be added or featured, what should happen to older items, and the intended order. Keep the playlist stable if you want one shareable destination rather than a new playlist each day.
- Authorize the channel. Playlist-item write requests require OAuth authorization. The API guide describes API keys or OAuth tokens for requests and requires OAuth to modify data. Use channel access appropriate to the task, protect credentials, and arrange for the job to report expired or revoked authorization rather than silently failing.
- Read the playlist before editing. List its items and identify the intended video and existing playlist entry. For removal or repositioning, use the playlist-item ID, which identifies the video’s placement in that playlist; the video ID alone is not the identifier for those operations.
- Call the method matching the rule. Insert a playlist item to add a video, delete a playlist item to remove an entry, or update a playlist item to change its position. Avoid inserting a duplicate if the video is already present.
- Schedule the script separately. Configure a scheduler on a system or hosting environment you operate to run at the desired local time. Account for timezone and daylight-saving changes if they matter to the channel’s publishing routine.
- Log, alert, and verify. Record the outcome, alert a responsible person when an API call fails, and provide a human fallback. Verify the playlist after the first run and whenever the selection rule or authorization changes.
Playlist IDs, ordering, and quota to account for
For a position change, the playlist must use Manual ordering. Deleting or updating an entry requires its playlist-item ID, so a script should retrieve the playlist items and keep the correct ID for the intended entry rather than treating a video ID as interchangeable.

Google for Developers’ API method references, accessed 2026-10-03, list a cost of 50 quota units for each playlist-item insert, delete, and update call. The Getting Started guide lists a default allocation of 10,000 units per day for most other YouTube Data API endpoints; this is changeable, so check the actual quota for your project. Repeated retries or multiple operations per daily run can consume quota too.
Common failures and sensible safeguards
- The job runs but cannot edit: the OAuth authorization may have expired, been revoked, or lack suitable channel access. Surface the authorization error and reconnect rather than repeatedly retrying without a working credential.
- The wrong entry is removed or moved: the script may have used a video ID where a playlist-item ID was needed, or selected the wrong occurrence. List the playlist first and match the intended entry before writing.
- The featured item does not move as expected: check that playlist ordering is Manual before setting a position.
- The same video appears twice: make the workflow check whether the video is already in the target playlist before inserting it.
- A video or playlist is unavailable: handle missing or inaccessible items as an explicit error state; do not assume a failed lookup means the playlist should be rebuilt.
- The run fails or quota is exhausted: log the API response, avoid unbounded retries, and alert a person to review the playlist. Check project quota and account for the 50-unit cost of each write call.
