To rotate prerecorded devotional videos in a scheduled YouTube Live event, build the playlist in OBS Studio, send it to YouTube through the encoder workflow, then schedule the event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Scheduling creates the event page; OBS supplies the video rotation. Before setting a time, check the festival observance for the intended audience and its time zone, confirm your channel can livestream, and make sure you have permission to broadcast every video and audio recording.
What you need before scheduling
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s getting-started guidance also says live streamers must be at least 16. Check current eligibility and method-specific requirements at YouTube’s live-streaming setup guide.
- A computer running OBS Studio, plus VLC installed in an architecture that matches OBS. The VLC Video source will not appear in OBS if VLC is missing; a 64-bit OBS installation requires 64-bit VLC.
- Local video files arranged in the order you want to play them, and an internet connection and computer that can remain active for the event.
- Broadcast rights for each video and its audio. Permission to use a devotional song or video in one context does not by itself establish permission to livestream or archive that recording.
YouTube offers mobile, webcam, encoder, and console live-streaming methods. Mobile suits a mobile-first or camera broadcast, while a webcam is for presenting from a computer camera. For a prerecorded local playlist, an encoder is the relevant route: it can send a composed scene to YouTube, but it must remain running during the broadcast. Build an ordered devotional playlist in OBS
- Install VLC and OBS. Match their architectures; if OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC. OBS’s Media Sources guide, published January 11, 2022, documents the VLC Video source and its playlist controls.
- Add the playlist source. In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene you plan to stream. Add the prepared media files to its playlist in the intended sequence. Check filenames and playback order rather than relying on an assumed sort order.
- Choose repeat behavior. Enable Loop Playlist if you want the sequence to restart after the final file. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a deliberate festival program; enabling it randomizes playback.
- Check the scene and audio. Preview the source, verify the first video and sound, and confirm the sequence advances and loops as intended. Run a short test before the scheduled event rather than assuming a playlist will behave correctly over a long broadcast.
A playlist source handles file playback; it does not schedule the YouTube event or keep your computer awake. OBS must be open and sending the scene while the event is live.
Create and schedule the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room, then choose the encoder workflow and create a stream.
- Enter the event title and description, select the intended visibility and other stream settings, and set the date and start time. Use the stream key and connection details shown for this event in OBS. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with viewers.
- Connect OBS to the event using YouTube’s encoder instructions and the event’s stream key. Start the encoder when you are ready to send the playlist, then check the Live Control Room preview and status before the event begins.
- Schedule the event early enough for viewers to find its upcoming watch page. YouTube says scheduled streams may appear to subscribers as upcoming, where viewers can select “Notify me.” This is an option for viewers, not a guarantee that every subscriber will receive a notification.
- If you reuse stream settings, inspect the copied title, description, schedule, and stream key before starting a new event. Reused settings can save setup work, but stale metadata or a key intended for another event can cause confusion.
For current event and encoder options, see YouTube’s live stream settings guide. Scheduling alone does not play a normal YouTube playlist as a live broadcast: the encoder is what sends the prerecorded rotation.

Choose a festival time that makes sense to viewers
India has regional and community-specific observances, so verify the date and relevant timing for the particular festival and audience each year; do not rely on a generic calendar assumption. If viewers may be outside India, state the time zone explicitly in the event description and promotion. YouTube advises creators to make a sustainable schedule and account for notable dates, including local or global holidays, in its upload schedule tips for Live.
Announce the schedule, communicate any changes, and consider placing recurring schedule information on the channel banner. A scheduled event page gives viewers a place to opt in to a reminder before the stream starts.
Rights, policy, and reliability checks
Clear every recording before broadcast
YouTube requires live content to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. That does not determine whether a particular bhajan, kirtan, Gurbani recording, temple video, or film excerpt is cleared for livestreaming. Check the rights to the specific recording and to the underlying music where relevant, including permission to keep an archived replay if you plan to leave one available. YouTube’s policy baseline is in its live-streaming guidance; it is not a clearance decision for your individual files.

Plan for the equipment and connection you actually have
A local OBS rotation depends on the computer, power, and network staying available, and the broadcast can be affected if the encoder stops or the connection fails. No specific backup-stream arrangement or internet-capacity figure is established here, so test your own setup and do not promise uninterrupted playback. For an event where a single failure would be especially disruptive, decide in advance who will monitor the stream and how you will respond if the preview or encoder status changes.
Distinguish playlist rotation from Live Redirect
YouTube Live Redirect can send viewers to a Premiere or another live stream after an event ends; it is separate from rotating videos within the current broadcast. YouTube documents a threshold of more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes for creators sending a redirect. Check the current eligibility details in YouTube’s Live Redirect guide before relying on the feature.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
