Who are the most popular gaming streamers on YouTube?
Streams Charts’ 2025 year-in-review ranks these YouTube Gaming creators by hours watched. High watch time can reflect both audience demand and how long someone broadcasts; Streams Charts says IShowSpeed’s increase in hours watched that year was driven entirely by higher airtime. Popularity is a useful way to find examples, but it does not prove that a creator is the best teacher.

Choose one skill before you watch. A long stream can be entertaining without being easy to learn from; a focused viewing question turns it into useful observation.

Gameplay and decision-making
For mechanics or strategy, pick a creator who plays your game or a closely related one. Watch a short section and note the situation, the choice made and its consequence. Then compare your own replay with the same questions. TIME quoted Ninja, discussing advice from his book Get Good, on the difficulty of noticing every decision in the moment and the value of reviewing replays to see what could have been done differently. This is gameplay-improvement advice, not evidence that replay review grows an audience.
Commentary and audience interaction
Notice how the creator explains a play, reacts to chat and keeps the stream moving when little is happening. Miko Ch. and Pekora Ch. are examples of interaction combined with role-play; Gaules and BaianoTV offer community-caster approaches; long tournament-focused formats appear in the profiles of Set1awanade and LoLzZz Gaming. Game focus and variety
Compare a focused channel with one that branches out, rather than assuming either approach is always better. Typical Gamer is described as primarily Fortnite-focused with occasional other games; MixiGaming covers indie titles and Grand Theft Auto; Kuzuha streams League of Legends, Valorant and GTA V. Ask whether a creator’s range supports the experience you want to make and the audience you hope to reach.
Live, VOD and Shorts
Look at how a creator packages an idea across a live stream, a regular video and a short clip. YouTube’s creator material describes gaming creators using Live, VOD and Shorts to tell stories, and has cited Lachlan as a historical example of turning stream or VOD highlights into Shorts. How do you choose a streamer to learn from?
- Set a specific goal. Decide whether you want to improve at a game, make commentary clearer, involve chat, cast tournaments or edit highlights.
- Match the example to your context. Prefer the same game where possible, then consider language, audience and format. A Portuguese-language Counter-Strike caster may teach useful broadcast habits, but not the same things as a Fortnite-focused creator.
- Study one segment actively. Write down what happened, what the creator did, and what you might try in your own session. For gameplay, use your own replay to check your decisions instead of relying on memory.
- Compare different approaches. Watch a focused player and a variety creator, or a solo stream and a community cast. Look for what serves their content rather than copying surface mannerisms.
- Test one change at a time. Apply a small idea in your own practice or stream, then review whether it helped. A popular creator’s choices may depend on their game, personality and established audience.
What audience research says—and what it cannot tell you
Big Games Machine’s 2025 survey found that 44% of respondents selected general gaming YouTubers as the creator type they watch most, 41% selected streamers and 25% selected style-driven creators, including informative, humorous or educational styles. In the same survey, 50% of respondents aged 18–24 mostly watched streamers, compared with 27% of respondents aged 44–55. These are survey findings, not estimates for every YouTube user; consult the report’s methodology and sample before applying them to a specific audience. How to make your own gaming streams easier to discover
YouTube says game pages are generated automatically when a game has a significant presence on the site. They collect videos and live streams algorithmically; they are not editorial endorsements. For a gaming upload or live stream, YouTube recommends accurate titles and descriptions, using tags for quality rather than quantity, selecting the right game in Studio and choosing the Gaming category. What you need to start streaming gameplay
YouTube’s computer live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Available approaches include mobile, webcam and encoder streaming; an encoder is commonly used for gameplay with overlays and peripherals such as microphones and cameras. Requirements can change, so check YouTube’s current help pages before setting up.

- Choose a workflow. For gameplay, an encoder can combine the game, overlays and audio inputs. A webcam or microphone is optional to the workflow; YouTube says expensive equipment is not required.
- Set up and test the event. For an encoder event, set it up in advance, check the Live Control Room preview and test before going public. YouTube recommends a test stream.
- Check the recording and quality. Confirm the local archive is accessible and intact, and monitor audio and video quality during the stream.
- Review rights and channel policies. Use game footage, music and other material only in ways you have the rights to use, and follow YouTube’s policies. A live stream or highlight is not automatically exempt from copyright rules.
