Not in a directly documented way. StreamYard documents connecting its studio to an existing YouTube live event using that event’s RTMP URL and stream key. YouTube separately documents sending a stream from encoder software such as OBS. The official instructions cited here do not confirm that OBS can feed into StreamYard’s studio, or that OBS and StreamYard can both send to the same YouTube event at once. Choose one documented path and test it before relying on it for a long broadcast.
What “use StreamYard with OBS” can mean
There are two distinct workflows that are easy to conflate:
- StreamYard to YouTube: Use StreamYard as the production interface, then send its broadcast to an existing YouTube event through StreamYard’s custom RTMP destination.
- OBS to YouTube: Use OBS as the encoder and enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in OBS’s stream settings.
Both routes send a feed to YouTube, but that does not establish that OBS can be used as a video input inside StreamYard or that both applications can publish to one YouTube event simultaneously. The official setup instructions below describe separate routes, not a combined OBS-to-StreamYard workflow.
Option 1: Send StreamYard to an existing YouTube event
StreamYard’s documented method is to connect an event already created or scheduled in YouTube Live Control Room as a custom RTMP destination. StreamYard says this feature requires a paid plan. Its custom RTMP connection does not support scheduling, and YouTube comments do not appear in the StreamYard studio.

- In YouTube Live Control Room, open or create the event you want to use.
- Open the event’s additional settings and enable Auto-start.
- Copy the event’s RTMP stream URL and stream key from YouTube.
- In StreamYard, add a custom RTMP destination and enter the YouTube URL and key.
- Create a StreamYard broadcast, select that destination, and click Go Live in StreamYard.
Keep the event’s stream key private: it is an authentication detail for sending the feed, not a public viewing link. YouTube says an owner or manager can reset a key if needed.
Option 2: Send OBS directly to YouTube
YouTube’s encoder workflow is to enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder, start the encoder, then follow the Live Control Room workflow. Depending on the event’s auto-start settings, you may also need to click Go live in Live Control Room.

- Confirm that your channel is eligible to livestream. YouTube’s live-streaming tips say the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
- Open the event in YouTube Live Control Room and copy its server URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open the stream settings and enter YouTube’s server URL and key as the service connection details.
- Start streaming from OBS. If YouTube does not start the event automatically, use Go live in Live Control Room.
- Check the Live Control Room preview, stream health, and any messages. Test representative audio and video before depending on the setup for a long session.
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing the stream and monitoring its health. The available official instructions here do not specify OBS bitrate, resolution, or keyframe settings for this particular StreamYard/OBS combination; use YouTube’s current encoder-settings guidance and the settings supported by your connection and source rather than assuming a combined workflow has been validated.
Which setup should you choose?

If you want to experiment with a combined setup, use an unlisted test event and verify the exact signal path before announcing or depending on a continuous broadcast. The official instructions do not verify simultaneous sending from OBS and StreamYard to one event, so do not assume that both senders can share it.

What “continuous” means on YouTube
A stream that stays live is not necessarily one YouTube will fully archive or let viewers rewind through without limits. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube also warns that DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If a complete replay matters, keep a separate local recording and check that the recording file is intact and growing during the broadcast.
- Test the planned workflow and representative audio and video before the event.
- Monitor the Live Control Room preview, stream health, and messages while live.
- Keep a local recording if preserving the full program is important.
- Do not promise viewers a complete archive or unlimited rewind for a stream longer than 12 hours.
Troubleshooting checks
- The event does not start: Check whether Auto-start is enabled. Depending on the path and event settings, you may need to click Go live in YouTube Live Control Room.
- The feed will not connect: Confirm that you used the RTMP URL and stream key for the intended event, and that the channel is eligible to livestream. Reset the key if you suspect it has been exposed, then update the encoder or custom destination with the new key.
- You expect OBS to appear inside StreamYard: The cited official instructions do not document that input path. Use one of the documented routes, or test your intended configuration on an unlisted event rather than assuming it works.
- You expect comments or scheduling in the StreamYard custom-RTMP workflow: StreamYard says YouTube comments will not appear in the studio and scheduling is unavailable for that connection.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: YouTube says a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Check your local recording as well as the event’s archive status.
