StreamYard’s reviewed help pages do not define this exact status or confirm a single fix, so treat these as diagnostic checks—not a guaranteed remedy.
First, identify where “preparing” appears
Before changing settings, note whether the status appears in StreamYard or YouTube, whether the broadcast was created in StreamYard or scheduled directly on YouTube, which channel is selected, and whether the issue recurs on another attempt. Those details help distinguish a destination or authorization issue from a browser or connection problem; they do not by themselves diagnose the status.
StreamYard’s YouTube troubleshooting page addresses general connection and start errors, including “An error occurred. Please wait a moment and try again,” but does not explain a broadcast stuck on “preparing.” The cause of this exact state therefore remains unconfirmed in the help material reviewed on October 3, 2026. StreamYard’s YouTube error guidance
Check the channel, account, and live-stream access
Verify the connected YouTube destination
- In StreamYard, check that the intended YouTube channel is selected as the destination. Make sure the Google account currently authorized is the account associated with that channel.
- Confirm the connected user owns the channel or is a manager or owner of its Brand Account. StreamYard says that YouTube Studio channel permissions currently support live streaming only for the owner.
- Check that Google authorization includes “Manage your YouTube account.” If the wrong channel or account is connected, reconnect or authorize the correct one, then retry.
These are checks for channel access and connection, not a confirmed explanation of “preparing.” See StreamYard’s YouTube channel connection guidance.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Confirm YouTube permits the channel to go live
If live streaming was only just enabled on YouTube, StreamYard says to allow up to 24 hours for activation. If it is already enabled, verify that StreamYard is connected to the correct channel. If YouTube displays a restriction notice, review the channel’s YouTube dashboard; StreamYard notes that a restriction message can be associated with a Community Guidelines violation. Do not assume that waiting will fix an account restriction.
Try the general browser, device, and network checks
StreamYard lists these steps for a generic YouTube connection or start error. Its guidance does not establish that any one of them fixes the specific “preparing” state. Change one thing at a time and retry, so you can tell whether a change affected the result. View the related StreamYard troubleshooting steps.

- Refresh the page and confirm that internet access is working.
- Close and relaunch your browser. If the status persists, restart the computer.
- Check your network speed and whether other sites or services are having connection problems.
- Open StreamYard in a private or incognito browser window and try again.
- Clear the browser cache and cookies, then sign in and retry.
- Temporarily disable browser extensions that could affect pages, then test again.
- Check whether firewall, proxy, or VPN settings could be interfering with the connection.
If the issue appears only on one network, that points toward a connectivity path worth investigating; it does not establish that changing internet providers will solve it.
Isolate the broadcast with a safe test
A test can show whether the workflow works without risking an unintended public broadcast. It cannot, on its own, establish why the original session remained on “preparing.” StreamYard describes private and unlisted tests, as well as recording without sending the session to a destination. See StreamYard’s live-stream testing instructions.

If you scheduled the broadcast on YouTube
StreamYard documents connecting an existing YouTube-created live stream through a custom RTMP destination. This is a separate setup option, not a verified workaround for “preparing.” It requires a paid StreamYard plan; YouTube comments do not appear in the StreamYard studio, and you must enter the studio manually and click “Go Live.” Consult StreamYard’s existing YouTube live-stream instructions before using that route.
When to contact StreamYard support
If the channel and eligibility checks and general troubleshooting do not help, use the “Submit a request” option on StreamYard’s YouTube error help page. Include the exact status or error text, the destination and channel, whether the broadcast was created in StreamYard or YouTube, the steps you already tried, and approximately when the failure occurred. This gives support concrete context without assuming what the status means.
