Loom suits creators who want a quick browser capture and a hosted share link; Screencastify offers a broader set of capture, editing, and export options for tutorials. - The listing warns that older or weaker computers may lag when many programs and tabs are open, and states: “Screen recording is a CPU intensive task.” Close unneeded applications and run a short test capture on the computer you intend to use.

Record a YouTube tutorial that is ready to publish
- Choose the capture area. Select a tab for a browser-only demonstration, or the desktop if the tutorial moves between applications. If showing your face adds context, enable webcam capture and position its overlay so it does not cover controls or text.
- Set up narration and audio. Select the intended microphone, check input level, and make a short test recording. System-audio capture depends on the tool and operating system; test that exact combination before recording the full walkthrough. Listen back with headphones to catch muted narration, clipping, or unwanted background sound.
- Prepare the screen. Close unrelated tabs and applications, silence notifications, enlarge small interface text, and sign out of accounts or hide personal information that should not appear in the recording.
- Record in short, deliberate sections. State the task, show each action at a pace viewers can follow, and pause briefly between sections. If a mistake occurs, repeat the step or mark the section for trimming rather than continuing with confusing narration.
- Review and edit. Check the opening and ending, confirm the microphone and any system audio are present, remove dead time, and make sure annotations or captions do not obscure the interface. Export or share in a format and location that fit your editor and archive.
- Check rights and privacy before upload. Use footage, music, images, and software content you have permission to publish. Remove credentials, customer data, private messages, or other sensitive information visible on screen. Reduce lag before it ruins a take
Screen recording consumes computer resources. Close unused tabs and demanding apps, record a short test, and avoid changing screen or audio settings mid-session. If the capture stutters, reduce simultaneous workload or use a less demanding capture setup, then test again before recording the final take.
Know where the recording goes
A hosted library or share link is convenient, but it is different from keeping an independent local master. Before using a service for unpublished or sensitive footage, review its current storage, access, deletion, and retention terms and the extension permissions shown in Chrome. Use the narrowest capture scope that demonstrates the task.
