Start with the alert library in your streaming platform or alert software: Twitch provides default assets and uploads, while Streamlabs offers alert themes and a sound gallery. For a distinctive look, commission original artwork; for more choice, browse third-party GIF and sound libraries—but check the rights for each asset before using it on stream or in recordings.
Where to find alert graphics and sounds
Built-in libraries
Check your alert provider first. Streamlabs points creators to its Desktop Media Library for alert themes and offers a sound gallery with free and premium choices. Some premium sounds are associated with Streamlabs Ultra; check the current product page for what each plan includes. Streamlabs’ alert asset guide was last updated April 25, 2025.
Twitch’s defaults and Asset Library
For Twitch alerts, begin with Twitch’s provided defaults or upload your own through its Asset Library. This is a straightforward option when you want to customize an alert without sourcing files elsewhere. Twitch’s alert customization documentation explains its current upload requirements and rights rules.
Commission custom art
A commission can give your channel original graphics or sounds tailored to its identity. Streamlabs names Etsy and Fiverr as examples of places to find artists, but a marketplace listing alone does not establish your usage rights. Before commissioning, get written terms covering livestreams, saved VODs, clips, and commercial use.

Third-party GIF and sound libraries
Streamlabs names Giphy and other GIF sites as places to discover visuals, and Free Sound, Sound Bible, and AudioMicro as sound-effect sources. These are discovery routes, not blanket licenses. Streamlabs advises contacting a GIF’s author for permission; check the license and intended-use terms for each sound or image as well.
Make a GIF yourself
Streamlabs also lists Giphy and Gifmaker as GIF-making tools. Creating the animation does not grant rights to its ingredients: confirm you are allowed to use any underlying images or footage.

Check permissions before using an asset
- Confirm that the license or permission covers live broadcasts and any VODs, clips, or other recordings you publish.
- Check whether commercial use is allowed if it applies to your channel.
- Save the license or written permission alongside the file so you can refer to it later.
- Do not treat an upload option as proof of permission. Twitch says alert images and sounds must follow its Community Guidelines and must not infringe third-party rights, including copyright.
These checks matter whether an asset comes from a built-in library, a commission, or a third-party site. A platform’s ability to accept a file is a technical feature, not a license.
Check file formats and size limits
Requirements depend on the alert platform. Twitch’s documentation lists these formats and maximum file sizes:

Twitch lists Asset Library storage of 100 MB for non-Affiliates and non-Partners and 1 GB for Affiliates and Partners. These are Twitch specifications; they do not apply to other platforms.
Streamlabs’ Alert Box lists PNG, GIF, JPG/JPEG, WebP, WebM, and MP4 for images, and MP3, OGG, and WAV for audio. The cited Streamlabs format information does not establish a matching set of file-size limits. Check the current help page for your provider before preparing or uploading files, since requirements can differ and change.

Add and test alerts in your streaming software
OBS Studio
- In OBS, add a Browser Source and use the overlay or widget provided by your alert service.
- Configure the provider’s alert widget and confirm its visual and audio output before going live.
- Trigger a test alert, then check that the image appears and the sound is included in your stream mix.
OBS does not directly provide stream alerts; its FAQ explains that alerts come from third-party providers. OBS Studio’s FAQ describes the distinction.
Streamlabs Desktop or plugin
- In Streamlabs Desktop, add an Alert Box source.
- With the Streamlabs plugin in OBS, add its Alert Box widget.
- In other software, copy the Streamlabs widget URL into a Browser Source.
- Test the alert and confirm the sound is captured in the stream mix before broadcasting.
