How to Stream From OBS Studio to Wowza Streaming Cloud

Use the current destination values from your Wowza configuration in OBS’s custom streaming settings. Verify the service’s limits and test the full path before broadcasting.

To send OBS Studio to Wowza Streaming Cloud, use the destination address and stream credentials shown for your active Wowza live-stream configuration, then enter them in OBS under Settings > Stream with a custom service. Do not copy an old example URL: the current Wowza dashboard labels, destination format, and ingest requirements are not verified here, so use the values and limits provided for your own stream.

Before you configure OBS

You need OBS Studio, an active Wowza live-stream configuration, and the destination details Wowza provides for that configuration. The exact current Wowza dashboard route and the labels used for those details are not established by available current official documentation. Open the configuration for the stream you intend to use and retrieve its current encoder destination values; do not reuse another account’s details or an old example.

OBS supports a custom streaming service configuration. Its official SRT tutorial documents the interface concept of choosing Settings > Stream > Service > Custom, but that tutorial is not a Wowza or RTMP guide, so it does not establish Wowza-specific fields or protocol settings. OBS: Streaming with SRT protocol.

Set up the stream in OBS

  1. Retrieve the active Wowza destination values. Open the relevant live-stream configuration in Wowza and find the current destination address and stream credentials or other encoder values it presents. Confirm the configuration is active and intended for an encoder connection. Exact Wowza navigation and field names are not verified here.
  2. Open OBS streaming settings. In OBS, go to Settings > Stream and choose Custom as the service. OBS documents this custom-destination interface in its SRT setup guide; the protocol and values you enter must still match the current instructions for your Wowza configuration.
  3. Enter the destination and credential. Put the Wowza-provided destination address in the server field and the corresponding stream name or key in the stream-key field, if those are the fields Wowza specifies. Follow the exact mapping and any authentication instructions in your active configuration. Treat the credential as private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to that destination.
  4. Choose output settings that meet both sides’ limits. Set resolution, frame rate, encoder, and bitrate based on your computer’s capacity, available upload bandwidth, and the limits Wowza gives for the configured stream. OBS notes that bitrate depends on upload speed and service limits, while performance depends on encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. The evidence here does not establish current Wowza-specific bitrate, resolution, or frame-rate limits.
  5. Test before broadcasting publicly. Start with a private or otherwise controlled test, then verify that the stream reaches Wowza and appears as expected before you rely on it for a public broadcast. OBS recommends testing a setup before a first live stream.

OBS’s overview guide says, “It’s strongly recommended that you test everything as best as you can before starting your first live stream.” See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Which settings should you verify?

Use the values in your own active Wowza configuration rather than a generic recipe. Before starting OBS, check the following against the receiving service’s current instructions:

  • The ingest protocol and destination address, including any host or port specified.
  • The exact stream name, key, or other credential and whether separate authentication is required.
  • Supported input bitrate, resolution, and frame rate.
  • Whether a private test or preview is available before you broadcast.
  • Whether your network or firewall permits the protocol and port your configuration uses.

These are details to confirm in your account, not current Wowza settings established by the sources available here. Historical evidence shows that an OBS-to-Wowza Streaming Cloud RTMP workflow existed, but it does not verify that historical guide’s URLs or interface as current: an OBS forum thread from 2019 linked to a Wowza guide for sending RTMP from OBS Studio to Wowza Streaming Cloud.

Troubleshoot connection and quality problems

OBS says it failed to connect

  • Check that the Wowza configuration is active and that you copied the destination and credential from the correct stream. A 2019 forum exchange described a connection issue where a reply advised checking whether the cloud instance was activated; that is one anecdotal possibility, not a guaranteed diagnosis.
  • Compare the protocol, host, port, stream name or key, and authentication requirements in OBS with the current values Wowza provides. Correct any mismatch rather than relying on a copied example.
  • Check local firewall and network rules for the protocol and port specified by your configuration. Current Wowza-specific port or firewall requirements are not established here.

RTMPS does not connect

Do not assume every server’s TLS configuration works with every client version. A 2025 forum thread records one user’s RTMPS failure with a Wowza server and a response attributing it to that server’s TLS/key-exchange configuration; this is a single reported case, not evidence of a general OBS–Wowza incompatibility. Check the current server and OBS guidance before changing protocols or security settings.

The stream is unstable or the computer struggles

Reduce output resolution, frame rate, or bitrate in line with the receiving service’s requirements and your system’s capacity, then test again. OBS cautions that meeting its minimum system requirements does not guarantee a computer can stream or record at a chosen quality; performance varies with encoder, resolution, FPS, and scene complexity. See OBS System Requirements.

What is known—and what must come from your Wowza account

The documented OBS workflow supports selecting a custom service and entering destination details. Historical material supports that OBS-to-Wowza Streaming Cloud RTMP streaming was once documented, but current Wowza product naming, dashboard navigation, credential labels, ingest protocol availability, and stream limits are not confirmed here. Treat the active configuration in your Wowza account as authoritative, and consult current Wowza support documentation or support for any field or limit that is unclear.
