Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To limit the frame rate of a pre-recorded loop stream in OBS, set the output rate at Settings → Video → Common FPS Value. To make the video repeat, separately enable Loop in the Media Source properties. For example, select 30 fps to send a 30 fps OBS output even if the source file is 60 fps; this changes the output, not the source file.
Set up a looping video and choose the output frame rate
- Add the video: In your OBS scene, add a Media Source and select the local video file.
- Enable the repeat: Open the Media Source properties and check Loop. OBS’s Media Source guide documents this control and notes it is off by default, so verify it rather than assuming the clip will restart automatically: OBS Media Sources.
- Set the output rate: Open Settings → Video and choose the desired value in Common FPS Value. OBS describes this as the desired output FPS: OBS Studio Overview Guide.
- Test before a long broadcast: Make a short test recording or stream. Confirm the clip restarts and check stream health. OBS recommends testing settings for a few minutes; YouTube recommends testing with similar audio and movement and monitoring stream health during the event: OBS Quick Start Guide and YouTube live encoder settings.
Looping and frame-rate limiting are separate controls: the Media Source setting repeats the file, while Common FPS Value controls OBS’s output rate. The frame-rate setting does not permanently convert or alter the video file.
Choose 30 fps or 60 fps
| Output | When it may fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| 30 fps | Useful when the computer struggles to render or encode at 60 fps, or when the content does not need the extra motion smoothness. | Less smooth motion than 60 fps. OBS recommends trying 30 fps when 60 fps is not working; fewer frames reduce rendering and encoding work. OBS Encoding Performance Troubleshooting. |
| 60 fps | Can suit footage where smoother movement matters, provided the computer can render and encode reliably. | More demanding than 30 fps. YouTube’s published live encoder guidance supports frame rates up to 60 fps. YouTube live encoder settings. |
Use the output rate appropriate to the content and the capacity of the streaming computer. If 60 fps produces instability, test at 30 fps and monitor the stream rather than assuming a higher rate is always better.
Loop one video or a playlist
A Media Source with Loop enabled repeats a single file. If you want several clips to play as a playlist, use OBS’s VLC Video Source and enable Loop Playlist. OBS says VLC must be installed for the VLC source to appear. See the OBS Media Sources guide.

Match OBS encoder output to YouTube
YouTube’s current live encoder guidance lists a maximum frame rate of 60 fps, recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency (not more than 4 seconds), and specifies CBR. For RTMP/RTMPS, the listed codecs are H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1; YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure transmission. Set bitrate according to the actual resolution, frame rate, and codec rather than treating one bitrate as universal. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate table for the mode you plan to send.
Examples from YouTube’s H.264 recommendations, accessed in 2026, are:

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- 1080p at 30 fps: 14 Mbps.
- 1080p at 60 fps: 17 Mbps.
- 720p at 30 fps: 8 Mbps.
These are YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrates for the stated modes, not universal OBS requirements. YouTube publishes separate recommendations and minimums for H.265 and AV1 as well.
Troubleshoot a loop stream
- The clip stops after one play: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For multiple videos, use a VLC Video Source with Loop Playlist; install VLC if that source is unavailable.
- The stream is less smooth than expected: Check Settings → Video → Common FPS Value. If it is set to 30, OBS is outputting at 30 fps even if the source is 60 fps. Choose 60 only if the computer can sustain the added rendering and encoding workload.
- The stream struggles at 60 fps: Try 30 fps, then test again. Lowering the frame rate reduces the work OBS must do, though motion may look less smooth.
- YouTube reports stream health problems: Verify that bitrate matches the selected resolution, frame rate, and codec using YouTube’s encoder guidance. Test using similar audio and movement, and monitor stream health during the broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps a pre-recorded video live without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video from the cloud: StreamNeo. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The stream continues with your home computer off; you can upload at any quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
