For several lessons, use VLC Video Source with Loop Playlist enabled. There is no single best encoder preset for every Hindi-language channel: choose a resolution and bitrate your computer and upload connection can sustain, then test the stream in YouTube Live Control Room before broadcasting.
Choose the right OBS source for your lesson
Repeat one video with Media Source
- In OBS, select the scene that should show the lesson. Under Sources, click + and choose Media Source. Create a source, then browse to the local video file. OBS lists common formats such as MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM. OBS Media Sources
- Enable Loop. This makes the file play again when playback reaches the end; the setting is off by default.
- Keep Restart playback when source becomes active enabled if you want the video to begin from its start whenever the source becomes active in the visible scene. This is separate from Loop, and is on by default.
- Check the scene preview and confirm the source is visible. In OBS, the eye icon beside a source shows or hides it; a hidden source will not appear in the output. OBS Sources Guide
If you want the video to disappear after it ends rather than hold its last frame, Media Source also has Show nothing when playback ends. For repeating a lesson continuously, use Loop instead.
Repeat a playlist of lessons with VLC Video Source
- Install VLC before adding the source. OBS requires the VLC architecture to match: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In the desired scene, choose Sources > + > VLC Video Source, then add the lesson files in the order you want them to play.
- Turn on Loop Playlist so playback starts again after the final item.
For a single lesson, Media Source avoids the VLC dependency. VLC Video Source is the appropriate choice when you need a sequence of files. OBS documents both source types and their loop controls in its Media Sources guide.
Set the YouTube encoder to match your connection
OBS source settings control what plays; the encoder settings control how the video is sent to YouTube. YouTube’s current guidance recommends RTMPS and supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 in its documented encoder workflow. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a keyframe interval of two seconds, and says not to exceed four seconds. Frame rates up to 60 fps are supported. Use settings your chosen OBS encoder actually offers, and consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance for the selected codec and output mode.

H.264 bitrate reference from YouTube
The following are YouTube’s H.264 minimum and recommended bitrates, in Mbps. They are encoder targets, not guarantees that a particular computer, network, or viewer connection will sustain the stream.
| Output | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These H.264 values are from YouTube Help’s guidance checked in 2026. The same guidance advises selecting a quality that is reliable for your available upload bandwidth and running a speed test. Leave capacity for other network traffic rather than setting the stream at the full measured upload rate. Use YouTube’s table for other codec, resolution, and frame-rate combinations; do not assume the H.264 figures apply to them.

Pick a practical resolution and frame rate
- Start from the lesson file’s actual dimensions and frame rate. Upscaling a lower-resolution lesson does not add detail.
- If upload bandwidth or computer headroom is limited, try a lower output such as 720p30 before moving to a higher bitrate or frame rate.
- Use 1080p or 60 fps only if the lesson benefits from it and your system and connection remain stable during a test.
- Hindi audio, Hindi titles, or Devanagari text do not require a special encoder profile. The official YouTube settings cited here do not specify a Hindi-specific bitrate or codec.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live Control Room
- In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream in Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover stream creation and connection.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. The stream key is credential-like: YouTube uses it to identify where the encoder sends the feed and to accept it. Keep it private; anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your stream.
- If this is your first YouTube live broadcast, enablement can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help. Plan for that delay rather than configuring the stream just before a scheduled lesson.
- For a new broadcast based on an earlier one, YouTube’s Reuse settings copies metadata, settings, and the stream key. Review and update the copied details before going live. Manage live stream settings
Test the loop and stream before broadcasting
- Start OBS output early enough to inspect it in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event.
- Include both audio and visible movement in the test. Check that the lesson is framed correctly, the audio is audible, the source is not hidden, and the loop returns to the beginning as expected.
- Inspect the Live Control Room preview before starting the public broadcast, and monitor stream health and any messages while live. A local OBS preview alone does not confirm that YouTube is receiving a healthy feed.
YouTube’s testing and encoder recommendations are in its live encoder guidance.
Troubleshoot common looping and streaming problems
- The video stops at the end: Check that Loop is enabled on Media Source, or Loop Playlist is enabled on VLC Video Source.
- The video restarts unexpectedly when switching scenes: Check Restart playback when source becomes active. When enabled, playback starts from the beginning as the source becomes active in the visible scene; it does not replace the Loop control.
- The source is missing from the output: Confirm the correct scene is active and the source’s eye icon is on. OBS scenes and source visibility determine what appears in the output. OBS Sources Guide
- VLC Video Source is unavailable or does not work: Install VLC and ensure its architecture matches OBS; 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC.
- YouTube does not receive the feed: Verify the stream URL and stream key in OBS, and confirm that live streaming has been enabled for the YouTube account. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. Do not share the stream key.
- The stream is unstable: Lower the output resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to a level the upload connection and computer can maintain. Check YouTube’s stream-health messages and encoder guidance instead of assuming the highest setting is the best setting.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a prerecorded YouTube stream to keep running without leaving OBS and a computer on at home, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video from the cloud. Upload the video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos and can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream; it does not stream from a camera.
