There is no authoritative count of the osu! skins used by the most players. One useful usage-based index, osuskins.org, ranks skins by selections in o!rdr replay renders; its leading entries at the time checked were Danser default skin, Aristia, Rafis HDDT, Vaxei, and WhiteCat. Those figures are a snapshot of that index—not a census of osu! players—and popularity alone cannot tell you whether a skin will suit your eyes or play style.
Most-used osu! skins in an o!rdr-based index
osuskins.org says it indexes skins from the osu! forum, a community compendium, and o!rdr. Its ranking uses replay-render selections rather than upload date. The entries below are the counts displayed when the page was checked; they are dynamic and do not represent unique players or all osu! players. The index covers skins known to o!rdr, and its ranking describes what is used within that coverage—not which skins are objectively best. See the osuskins.org ranking.
| Rank | Skin | Creator or credits shown | o!rdr render selections |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Danser default skin | Haskorion | 633,789 |
| 2 | Aristia | [Garin] + Aristia + Various | 269,440 |
| 3 | Rafis HDDT 2018-03-26 | DDK RPK | 249,115 |
| 4 | Vaxei | cyperdark | 187,076 |
| 5 | WhiteCat | cyperdark | 170,589 |
| 6 | FREEDOM DiVE | BTMC / JesusOmega / MyniMyxii / Tofumang / Kazu | 114,268 |
| 7 | a t m o s p h e r e | atturbo555 | 108,074 |
| 8 | WhiteCat 2.1 old | cyperdark | 98,962 |
| 9 | MonkoEdit | Monko2k/Rektygon | 88,833 |
| 10 | Aetrna aug. 2020 fir3ba7 | Coralruler | 58,076 |
These are the index’s published usage counts for replays rendered with a selected skin. They are not the number of people who play with each skin, nor a controlled measure of quality or gameplay results. osuskins.org also notes that popularity can persist because players copy top players and because communities stick with familiar choices. Read the index’s explanation and ranking.
Why different “popular skin” lists disagree
Popularity counters measure different actions. A skin selected for a replay render, a download, a page view, and a like are not interchangeable, so their totals should not be added together or described as the same kind of use.

| Index or source | What its popularity signal represents | What it can tell you |
|---|---|---|
| osuskins.org | Selections in o!rdr replay renders, among skins known to the index | Which listed skins are selected most often in that rendering context |
| skins.osuck.net | Its popular page separates downloads, views, and likes | Catalogue activity by several distinct measures; counters should be read separately |
| PimpMyOsu | Catalogue sorted by download count; includes skins across modes | Which entries attract downloads in that catalogue, not which skins remain in use during play |
| osu! forum advice | Community recommendations, not a measured popularity counter | Examples players suggest for ranked scenarios, not a representative survey |
On the osuck popular page, several WhiteCat versions, Bacon boi, Vaxei 2023, Rafis 2018-03-26 HDDT, Aristia(Edit)+trail, re;owoTuna, and boop appear among the popular entries. Their appearance alongside the o!rdr-based list suggests that some familiar player-associated skins recur across catalogues, but the sites’ metrics and coverage differ. The osu! forum response to someone seeking a skin for ranked play suggests WhiteCat and Rafis DT; treat that as community advice, not evidence that most ranked players use either skin. Browse the osuck popular page. See osu! forum topics.
Which popular skins are worth trying for ranked play?
If you want starting points rather than a claim about what every ranked player uses, try the specific versions WhiteCat and Rafis DT mentioned in community advice, then compare them with Aristia or Vaxei from the usage-based index. The names refer to particular skins or edits: for example, Rafis HDDT 2018-03-26 and WhiteCat 2.1 old are distinct entries. Check the exact version and mode label rather than assuming every skin with a familiar name is identical or supports your mode.

Popularity does not establish readability, comfort, or suitability for a particular player. Compare candidates by:
- Metric: Is the popularity claim based on render selections, downloads, views, likes, or recommendations?
- Mode: Does the listing support your mode—standard, mania, taiko, or catch?
- Version: Is it the exact skin or edit you intend to use?
- Readability: Can you comfortably see the objects and follow the playfield with that skin?
The indexes list mode labels and distinct variants, but the available evidence does not show that one skin improves performance. Choose by trying it in your mode, not by treating a popularity count as a gameplay guarantee.

How to find a working download and the original creator
Prefer listings that credit the skin’s creators and link to the original forum post or creator profile. osuskins.org says it points to original posts and creator profiles and does not re-host creators’ skins. It also reports 2,058 confirmed dead download links among 7,984 tracked links, so an entry’s presence in a popular list does not guarantee its download still works. Check the osuskins.org listing and its linked source.
