You can’t replace an uploaded YouTube video in place: a new upload gets a new URL. To preserve the existing video and playlist entry where possible, use the options offered for its specific Content ID claim in YouTube Studio—trim the claimed segment, replace claimed audio, or erase or mute the song. If you must upload a corrected file, add it to the playlist as a new item and verify the playlist before the next livestream; YouTube does not promise a seamless handover.
First identify what kind of copyright notice you have
Open the video in YouTube Studio and inspect the copyright notice, claim details, and claimant information. Do not treat a Content ID claim, a copyright removal request, and a claim on a livestream archive as interchangeable: the notice tells you which situation you are dealing with and which actions are available.
- A Content ID claim may block, monetize, or track a video, and its effect can differ by country or region. A claim by itself is not a copyright strike. YouTube Help: Understand copyright claims.
- A copyright removal request is a separate process. Follow the notice’s instructions rather than assuming the Content ID editing options apply.
- A livestream may be interrupted while it is live because YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. An archived stream may receive a claim after the broadcast ends. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.
Can you replace the file and keep the same video URL?
No. YouTube Help says, “You can’t replace a video.” Every new upload receives a new URL, although you can edit an existing upload using supported YouTube Studio tools. YouTube Help: Replace or delete your video.
That distinction matters for a playlist livestream: the existing playlist item points to the existing video. A corrected upload is a different video identity, so do not assume YouTube will transfer the old playlist slot or switch the stream to the new file automatically.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Remove the claimed material from the existing upload
Review the available claim-specific options
- In YouTube Studio, open the affected video and its copyright notice or claim details.
- Review the actions YouTube offers for that claim. Depending on the content and claim, options may include trimming out the claimed segment, replacing claimed audio with a track from the YouTube Audio Library, or erasing or muting the song.
- Preview the result and check that the claimed material is gone if your aim is to clear the claim. YouTube says the claim clears only when the claimed material is successfully removed. Check the notice afterward to confirm the result.
The right option depends on what was claimed and what YouTube makes available for that video; these tools are not a general-purpose way to swap in an entirely new video file. See YouTube Help: Remove claimed content from videos.
Back up and preview before saving
Keep a copy of your source video before editing. YouTube changed the Studio Editor in June 2025: saved edits can no longer be undone with “Revert to original.” Preview the full affected section and the transitions around it before saving. If the edit damages the video, a backup gives you a source for making a corrected new upload; it will not restore the old upload to its original state through that revert feature.

If you need a corrected upload, update the playlist manually
- Render the corrected video and upload it to YouTube. Expect it to have a new URL.
- During upload, use YouTube’s playlist option to add it to the relevant playlist, or add it afterward in Studio.
- Open the playlist itself and verify that the replacement is present, in the intended order, and playable. Decide whether the old item should remain or be removed.
- Before the next scheduled playlist livestream, check the playlist playback and the stream setup. Treat this as a manual operational check: YouTube documents adding an upload to a playlist, but does not document automatic transfer of an old playlist slot or guarantee uninterrupted playback when a video is replaced.

Protect a livestream that includes licensed material
YouTube Help says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content and may show a warning, be interrupted, or be terminated if the material remains. This can apply even when you have a license: the rights owner may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID for the live stream to avoid an interruption. Confirm the allowlisting with the rights owner before broadcasting. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.

Editing a playlist item does not guarantee that a live broadcast will continue without interruption. If you are setting up live streaming for the first time, YouTube’s guidance says the channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the prior 90 days. Check the current eligibility details at YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
When to dispute instead of edit
Dispute a claim only if you believe it is wrong and are confident you have the necessary rights. YouTube does not decide copyright ownership disputes, and automated Content ID cannot determine whether a use is fair use. Copyright exceptions vary by jurisdiction, and fair use is case-specific; consider qualified legal advice if the consequences are significant. YouTube Help: Dispute a Content ID claim.
