To keep an OBS playlist live on YouTube over Airtel broadband, set OBS to a bitrate your connection can sustain continuously—not merely one that fits the plan’s advertised download speed. Measure upload capacity, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, use YouTube’s encoder settings, then test the actual playlist while watching OBS dropped frames and YouTube stream health. Airtel’s listed speeds are maximums, not guarantees of your upload rate or stability.
Set a YouTube-compatible OBS stream that fits your upload
For a straightforward OBS setup, use a YouTube-supported protocol and codec, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate based on both the playlist’s needs and the weakest upload conditions you expect. YouTube’s recommendations are encoder guidance; they do not establish what a particular Airtel connection can sustain.
Use these H.264 live bitrate recommendations as starting points

These are YouTube Help’s current recommended H.264 live video bitrates, not measured Airtel results. Use the recommendation only if your stable outbound bandwidth can carry the total stream bitrate with margin. YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps; its guide recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Its separate upload-encoding guidance applies to prerecorded uploads, not OBS livestream settings.
Choose quality for the connection you actually have
A still playlist image may not need 60 fps, while moving gameplay or frequent transitions may benefit from a higher frame rate. If the upload varies, lower the resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to create margin rather than configuring OBS at the line’s observed limit. A lower fixed bitrate can preserve more consistent image quality than a setting that repeatedly runs into congestion.

Measure Airtel upload capacity and leave headroom
Test upload speed from the streaming computer or its network, preferably at times when the household or office is normally busy. YouTube recommends 20% headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. That means the connection needs to deliver more than the video bitrate alone: audio and other stream traffic also count. For example, a 6 Mbps video bitrate plus audio needs more than 6 Mbps of stable outbound capacity; this is an arithmetic illustration, not a result measured on Airtel.
- Use upload results, not download speed, to judge whether OBS can send the stream. Download speed is often higher than upload speed.
- Account for other devices and applications uploading at the same time. Shared use reduces the capacity available to OBS.
- If results fluctuate, select settings that leave practical margin under the slower conditions you observe.

Test the playlist before relying on it
- Set up the actual OBS scene. Include the playlist source, audio, transitions, and any overlays you intend to keep live.
- Start a private or unlisted test in YouTube Live Control Room. Use the same resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and encoder settings planned for the real stream.
- Run representative content. Include normal audio and movement, as YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the intended stream.
- Watch both ends of the connection. Check YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health and OBS’s dropped-frame count while the playlist plays.
- Adjust and retest if needed. If health warnings appear or dropped frames rise, lower bitrate or output quality, reduce competing uploads, or investigate the local connection before depending on the stream.
A short clean test does not prove an ISP connection will remain stable indefinitely. Test under representative household or office network use; YouTube does not specify a universally sufficient test duration. YouTube’s guidance also explains how to monitor stream health.
Understand OBS dropped frames and viewer buffering
OBS Project says: “Dropped frames means that your connection to remote server isn’t stable or you can’t keep up with your set bitrate.” Rising dropped frames point to the broadcaster-to-ingest connection or a bitrate that the connection cannot sustain. First check that the selected bitrate fits the measured upload with headroom, then check the local network path. If OBS allows it, try a different YouTube ingest server. Prefer Ethernet over Wi-Fi if the computer and router can be connected; a Cat 6 Ethernet cable may help when the wireless link is unstable, but it cannot increase Airtel upstream capacity or fix ISP congestion or a poor route to YouTube.
OBS documents Windows-only network optimizations and TCP pacing options, as well as dynamic bitrate. Dynamic bitrate can lower the send rate during congestion to help preserve continuity, but it reduces video quality and does not fix the underlying cause. If stable image quality matters more than maintaining the highest possible resolution, a lower fixed bitrate chosen for the weakest observed upload periods may be the better trade-off.

Viewer-side buffering is a different issue. Viewers’ devices and networks can buffer even when OBS reports no dropped frames and YouTube shows a healthy incoming stream. In that case, investigate viewer playback conditions rather than continually lowering the broadcaster’s bitrate without evidence.

Airtel lists broadband speed tiers and ties availability to location. Its terms describe listed speeds as maximum prescribed speeds and say actual speed may vary because of congestion, technical reasons, or other conditions. A plan’s advertised speed therefore does not establish its upload rate, consistent capacity, or route stability to YouTube. Check the connection at your address and contact Airtel about persistent line-specific problems if upload tests show a recurring issue. Airtel’s published terms list a 3,333 GB fair-usage threshold per billing cycle, after which speed is reduced; Airtel says the policy may be amended. Confirm the current terms for your plan and locality. A continuous stream contributes data use according to its bitrate and duration, and other household traffic may count toward the same allowance; without those details, a universal data-use estimate would be misleading.
Choose settings by balancing quality and continuity
- Resolution and frame rate: Choose 1080p or 720p and 30 or 60 fps according to the playlist’s visual needs and available upload margin.
- Fixed or dynamic bitrate: A fixed CBR setting gives a steadier target; OBS dynamic bitrate can react to congestion by lowering quality.
- Ethernet or Wi-Fi: Wired Ethernet can remove a weak wireless link as a cause, but it does not correct a problem beyond the local network.
- Latency: YouTube notes that lower latency may lead to more playback buffering. Prioritize interaction only when the broadcast needs it.
- ISP plan versus measured service: Compare address-specific availability and measured upload performance, not just an advertised maximum or download test.
No single resolution, bitrate, or Airtel plan is best for every location and stream. Your own upload measurements and OBS/YouTube health indicators should decide the settings.
