Keep a separate fallback scene for interruptions or maintenance. OBS does not prescribe a radio template, so this is a practical layout recommendation—not a tested or officially endorsed preset.
Build a small scene collection
In OBS, scenes and sources make up the broadcast layout. A Scene Collection groups scenes; a Profile stores stream, video, and output settings. Keep the radio stream’s scenes in a focused collection and its YouTube output configuration in a Profile, rather than mixing unrelated show layouts into one large collection. OBS documents using Profiles and Scene Collections together in its overview and Profiles guide.
Main / On Air
- Use a static station image, logo, or restrained visualizer as the main visual.
- Make the station or program name readable at a glance on both mobile screens and televisions.
- Add current-track text only when a dependable metadata source keeps it accurate. Stale song titles are worse than omitting track information.
- Include only the audio sources required for the broadcast, and check their routing and levels before going live.
Fallback / Maintenance
Prepare a static “Technical issue” or “Back shortly” card for a source interruption or scheduled maintenance. Decide intentionally what audio should do in that scene. A fallback scene helps the operator respond quickly; it does not replace monitoring the live stream.
Opening / Schedule (optional)
Add an opening, break, or schedule scene only when programming has a real handoff or transition that needs one. A genuinely continuous broadcast can stay on the main scene.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Keep the layout legible and light
Give the station identity visual priority and avoid clutter that competes with it. A mostly static radio visual does not, by itself, justify elaborate animation, high resolution, or a high frame rate. Choose canvas and output settings for the artwork or motion you use, your audience, and your system’s capacity. OBS distinguishes Base (Canvas) Resolution—the work area where sources are fitted—from Output (Scaled) Resolution, which determines stream and recording output. Its guide recommends matching FPS to the desired output and notes that 60 fps can demand more resources than 30 fps. There is no universally best resolution, bitrate, encoder, or hardware setup established for every station.
Keep resource use in mind for a scene that may stay active for long periods. OBS notes that sources consume resources even when hidden, and identifies browser sources, filters, and large media as possible costs. Its performance guide suggests reducing expensive sources, sizing media appropriately, reducing browser-source dimensions, preferring static image sources for static overlays, and keeping collections focused. These are sensible design principles, not a quantified performance guarantee for this particular layout.

Set up and test before a continuous broadcast
- Organize the configuration. In OBS, create a dedicated Scene Collection for the radio stream and a Profile for its stream, video, and output settings. Keep the On Air scene uncluttered; add fallback or optional programming scenes only if they serve an operational need.
- Check the stream configuration against your system and YouTube’s current guidance. Select canvas and output resolutions, FPS, bitrate, and encoder based on the visual content, available upload capacity, and hardware. This topic does not establish one correct universal value for those settings.
- Verify audio and scene behavior. Make sure the intended audio sources reach the stream, the main visual is visible, and any track information is current. Test the fallback scene and the procedure for returning to On Air after an interruption.
- Run a test stream or recording. OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends testing before the real broadcast. Check transitions, audio routing, visible sources, fallback content, and recovery after a network or source interruption.
- Preview and monitor the live output. YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview before starting, verifying access on channel/watch pages and mobile, and continuously monitoring audio and video quality. It recommends upload bandwidth with 20% headroom above stream bitrate requirements. These checks reduce avoidable surprises but do not guarantee uptime; see YouTube’s streaming tips.
Plan for archives and rights, not just the scene
Do not rely on one uninterrupted YouTube archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local archive backup. Plan separate recording and retention if you need recordings of a continuous 24/7 broadcast; the guidance is not a promise that every shorter stream will be captured in every circumstance. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Clear music and visual assets for the intended uses
Treat music clearance as a prerequisite, including for a stream aimed at listeners in India. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to hold necessary worldwide rights for live content, including music licensing rights and applicable territory requirements. YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content; if identified material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even licensed third-party content can be interrupted if the rights owner has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review the livestream terms and copyright guidance.

YouTube says music is safe to use if it is public domain or you have permission from the copyright owner. Calling a track “free,” or crediting it in a description, does not establish permission; check the specific license. Confirm that your rights cover the relevant territory and both live use and any archive or replay you intend to keep. YouTube’s safe-music tips do not provide a complete India-specific rights checklist, so permissions depend on the tracks and rights holders involved.
Also check the channel’s eligibility and current live-stream restrictions before planning a launch. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance states a condition of 90 days without live-stream restrictions. Follow the current guidance for your channel rather than assuming eligibility.
