Best DaVinci Resolve Export Settings for a Prerecorded YouTube Live Stream

For a YouTube Premiere, export MP4/H.264 at the source frame rate and use YouTube’s upload bitrate table. Encoder-based live streams use a separate set of targets.

First decide what you mean by “prerecorded YouTube Live.” For a scheduled watch-along using a finished upload, export a YouTube Premiere: use an MP4 with H.264, progressive scan, the source frame rate, and YouTube’s upload bitrate recommendation for your resolution and frame rate. For a broadcast that YouTube receives as a live feed, Resolve’s export bitrate is not the live bitrate; a separate encoder sends the feed, and YouTube’s live-ingestion settings apply.

Premiere or encoder-based live broadcast?

A YouTube Premiere is a finished video uploaded to YouTube and played for viewers at a scheduled time. It is not an encoder-ingested live broadcast. YouTube’s current Premiere instructions say output above 1080p is unsupported, so keep a Premiere export at or below 1080p.

For an actual live stream of a prerecorded program, a live encoder plays the video and sends an encoded feed to YouTube. Use YouTube’s separate live encoder recommendations for that incoming feed. Do not confuse those bitrates with the bitrate for the rendered file you export from Resolve.

Decision Uploaded Premiere Encoder-based live stream
What YouTube receives A finished uploaded video A live encoded feed
Relevant bitrate guidance YouTube upload recommendations YouTube live-ingestion recommendations
1080p H.264 example 8 Mbps at 24/25/30 fps; 12 Mbps at 48/50/60 fps 14 Mbps at 30 fps; 17 Mbps at 60 fps
Can viewers join at a scheduled time? Yes, schedule it as a Premiere Yes, but the encoder must be running for the broadcast
Resolution note YouTube says Premiere output above 1080p is unsupported YouTube’s live guide lists higher resolutions, subject to its settings table

Best Resolve settings for an uploaded Premiere

For a standard SDR upload or Premiere, use these as targets in Resolve’s Deliver settings. Exact control names and available codec options can differ by Resolve version and operating system; use the installed version’s controls rather than assuming every build exposes an identical preset.

  • Container: MP4.
  • Video codec: H.264.
  • Scan: Progressive.
  • Frame rate: Match the source recording and project. YouTube Help says, “Content should be encoded and uploaded in the same frame rate it was recorded.”
  • Resolution: Choose the intended output resolution. For a Premiere, do not exceed 1080p under YouTube’s current stated limitation.
  • SDR color: BT.709 / Rec. 709.
  • Video bitrate: Use the row for the export’s resolution and frame rate in YouTube’s published upload recommendations. These are platform recommendations, not mandatory minimums.
  • Audio: YouTube’s upload guidance lists 48 kHz audio and AAC-LC, Opus, or Eclipsa Audio; for stereo it recommends 384 kbps.

YouTube’s encoding page notes that its documented features are available to partners using YouTube Studio Content Manager. Treat the figures as YouTube-published guidance, not a promise that every account or Resolve preset exposes each control.

Published SDR upload bitrate targets

Output YouTube upload recommendation
1080p, 24/25/30 fps 8 Mbps
1080p, 48/50/60 fps 12 Mbps
1440p, standard frame rate 16 Mbps
1440p, high frame rate 24 Mbps
2160p/4K, standard frame rate 35–45 Mbps
2160p/4K, high frame rate 53–68 Mbps
Stereo audio 384 kbps

These are YouTube’s current upload recommendations, accessed in 2026. Standard frame-rate and high-frame-rate categories follow the corresponding resolution rows on YouTube’s upload settings page. That page also has separate HDR recommendations: if exporting HDR, use its HDR row for the chosen resolution and frame rate rather than applying SDR values.

How to prepare and schedule the Premiere

  1. Choose the delivery type. Confirm that viewers should watch an uploaded finished video together, rather than receive a live encoder broadcast.
  2. Set the project and export target. Match the source frame rate, intended aspect ratio, and output resolution. For a Premiere, keep the output at or below 1080p.
  3. Render the file. Use MP4/H.264, progressive scan, BT.709 / Rec. 709 for SDR, and the upload bitrate row matching the output. Use YouTube’s audio recommendations where the corresponding options are available.
  4. Upload and let YouTube process it. In YouTube Studio, upload the finished video, then set it as an instant or scheduled Premiere using YouTube’s Premiere instructions.

Settings for a prerecorded video sent as a live stream

If you need a genuine live broadcast, a playout system must decode the rendered video and a live encoder must send the feed to YouTube. Use the live-ingestion recommendations for that feed, not the upload file’s bitrate targets. YouTube’s current H.264 live recommendations include:

YouTube’s live guide recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds), RTMPS, and Rec. 709 for SDR. Its listed workflow supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, and lists AAC or MP3 audio. Check the live guide for the selected stream’s full settings and resolution-specific requirements.

Do not set the Resolve export itself to the live CBR bitrate just because it appears in the live table. A separate encoder may decode and re-encode the file for transmission, and the best intermediate file settings depend on that playout and encoder chain. The YouTube guidance does not establish one universal Resolve export preset for every such chain.

Common problems and fixes

  • Premiere resolution is unavailable or the upload is rejected for the intended output: YouTube’s current Premiere instructions say output above 1080p is unsupported. Export a Premiere at or below 1080p.
  • The video looks choppy or motion is uneven: Check that the export frame rate matches the recording. Avoid changing it simply to reach a round number; YouTube recommends uploading at the recorded frame rate.
  • The live stream is unstable even though the Resolve file looks fine: The upload bitrate does not determine the incoming live feed. Check the encoder’s live bitrate, CBR setting, keyframe interval, and YouTube stream health against the live guide.
  • Color differs from the intended SDR image: Confirm the output is using BT.709 / Rec. 709 for SDR. Do not use SDR bitrate or color guidance as a substitute for YouTube’s separate HDR recommendations.
  • The expected option or label is missing in Resolve: Resolve’s exact controls can vary by version and operating system. Use the target values as guidance, and verify the available controls in the installed version instead of assuming a universal Deliver-page layout.
