For a continuous YouTube live stream from a cyber café PC, configure the live encoder—not a video-export preset. Start with H.264, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval and 30 fps. YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for 720p30 or 14 Mbps for 1080p30. Choose between them only after checking the café’s available upload capacity during busy hours and testing stream health.
First, distinguish live streaming from uploading a video
If your PC is sending video to YouTube continuously through an encoder, the settings below apply to the live feed. They are not export settings for a prerecorded file. For a normal file upload, YouTube gives separate recommendations, including an MP4 container and H.264 video: YouTube video format and upload encoding recommendations.
The recommendations here come from YouTube Help pages retrieved on October 3, 2026; the pages do not state publication dates. They are platform guidance, not a guarantee that a particular café PC or shared connection can sustain a stream.

Encoder labels differ, but look for the equivalent controls for codec, rate control, frame rate, keyframe interval, audio and server protocol. YouTube’s full guidance is in Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

The bitrate figures are YouTube’s recommendations, not measurements of Indian café connections. The headroom figures apply YouTube’s recommendation to leave 20% of upload bandwidth spare: the stream should use no more than about 80% of the capacity actually available to it. At a cyber café, advertised or off-peak internet speed is not enough to decide. Other users may share the connection, so the bandwidth available to your PC can fall when the café is busy. Test upload speed under representative busy conditions; a download-speed result does not show whether outbound capacity is adequate.

- Try 720p30 at 8 Mbps if the stream still has the recommended headroom under typical busy conditions.
- Use 1080p30 at 14 Mbps only if the measured spare upload capacity can support it with headroom.
- If neither setting stays healthy, lower the output resolution or bitrate and test again. YouTube lists lower rates for lower resolutions; the right choice depends on the source material and how legible it needs to be.
These are conditional choices, not a universal quality ranking. No café-specific sustained upload or peak-hour contention figure is established here.
Test the live setup before leaving it unattended
- Measure upload capacity during representative conditions. Test when the café is busy, not only when the network is quiet. Account for unrelated traffic and preserve YouTube’s 20% headroom recommendation.
- Set the encoder values. Configure the chosen resolution and bitrate alongside H.264, CBR, 30 fps and a two-second keyframe interval. Select RTMPS when your encoder supports it.
- Run a representative stream test. Use audio and movement similar to what the planned stream will contain; a static or silent test may not expose the same problems.
- Check YouTube’s stream health while it runs. If the test shows instability, reduce the bitrate or resolution, then test again under the same network conditions.
- Confirm the stream key and destination. Use the stream key and server details shown in YouTube Studio’s live-stream setup and keep the key private. Encoder menus vary, so follow the labels for the selected YouTube stream rather than reusing a key from an unrelated stream.
YouTube’s own instruction is: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Check YouTube’s encoder setup and stream health guidance before going live.

Plan for recordings separately from stream quality
A continuous live broadcast and its archive are separate concerns. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping a recording matters, make a local recording backup; do not assume that a long-running live stream will be available as an archive afterward.
