Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a technically capable creator who needs cloud storage for video assets, Backblaze B2 is a cost-conscious object-storage option; Google Cloud Storage is a stronger fit when storage is part of a managed media workflow that uses a CDN. Neither one, by itself, keeps a YouTube channel live. You still need an encoder or streaming service to send the video to YouTube. The right storage depends on how much you keep, how often the files are read, where they are delivered, and whether a CDN is part of the setup.
Choose storage for the job it will do
A 24/7 prerecorded YouTube channel has at least two separate jobs: keeping the source video files, and continuously sending a live feed to YouTube. Cloud storage handles the first. An encoder or streaming service handles the second. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a Live server URL and stream key in streaming software; storing a file in a cloud bucket does not automatically make it a live stream.
For a gaming channel, that distinction matters whether the loop is a long gameplay recording, a playlist of edited highlights, or a scheduled rotation of videos. Pick storage based on the source files’ access pattern and the delivery design, not just a per-terabyte headline price.
- Choose object storage when you need a cloud location for video assets and can configure the tools that read them.
- Consider Google Cloud Storage when storage, processing, network delivery, and CDN caching are being designed as one managed media workflow.
- Use desktop file sync when the main need is convenient access to files on a computer, rather than unattended live playout.
How the storage options compare
| Option | Best fit | Costs and watch-outs |
|---|---|---|
| Backblaze B2 | Active object storage for a creator or team prepared to configure the tools that access and deliver the files. Backblaze describes its service as S3-compatible. | Backblaze’s pricing page lists starting storage pricing of $6.95 per TB per month, free egress up to 3× average monthly stored data, and $0.01/GB above that threshold except for eligible partner routes. These are the vendor’s current listed terms accessed in 2026; check the applicable region, routes, and terms before budgeting. B2 stores files; it is not a complete YouTube playout service. |
| Google Cloud Storage | A managed media workflow that may combine asset storage, processing, content serving, and CDN delivery. Google identifies streaming video as a standard-storage use. | There is no single workload-independent total in the guidance: cost depends on storage, processing, network use, and optional caching. Google’s media guidance recommends routing customer reads for content-serving workloads through a CDN, which can improve bandwidth efficiency and reduce delivery costs. Model the actual workload and region rather than comparing storage alone. |
| Wasabi | Video object storage when the real egress pattern fits the provider’s pricing assumptions, potentially with CDN caching. | Wasabi cautions that its pricing model is not suitable when video egress exceeds the amount stored. Check its current minimum-duration and other terms directly; CDN caching may reduce repeated origin downloads. |
| Google Drive for desktop | Personal or collaborative file access, including desktop streaming or mirroring. | Google says mirroring is faster for work involving extensive writing, video editing, or high-resolution photo editing. The reviewed guidance does not establish Drive as an unattended, resilient 24/7 YouTube playout system. |
Estimate the real monthly cost
Storage capacity is only one part of the bill. Before choosing a provider, estimate how many gigabytes or terabytes of source video will remain stored and how much data your workflow will read each month. Then account for region, outgoing transfer, requests or processing, and any CDN cache behavior. A popular video delivered repeatedly can have a very different cost profile from a file read only once for editing.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When B2’s egress allowance helps
Backblaze lists included egress of up to 3× average monthly stored data, with a listed charge of $0.01/GB above that threshold outside eligible partner routes. Treat those as current vendor terms, not a guarantee that every route or workload will qualify. Confirm the route your encoder or delivery system uses and recheck the pricing before committing.
When to model Google Cloud and a CDN together
Google’s media guidance frames storage, processing, network traffic, and caching as parts of a media-delivery design. A CDN can reduce repeated origin reads for content-serving workloads, but its effect depends on how your system reads and delivers the files. If an encoder reads a source file from storage and sends the feed to YouTube, model that actual workflow; do not assume viewer delivery traffic is being served from your bucket.

Check Wasabi against your egress pattern
Wasabi’s own caveat is particularly relevant to video: its pricing model may not suit a workload where egress downloads exceed the amount stored. If your setup repeatedly reads files from the origin, estimate those reads and consider whether caching changes the pattern. Verify current terms before selecting it.
Build a storage-to-YouTube workflow
- Keep the master files in suitable storage. Separate the original recordings from any loop-ready exports or playlists, and choose a storage location based on how often each set will be accessed.
- Configure the playout layer. Use an encoder or streaming service to send the video feed to YouTube. In YouTube’s encoder workflow, configure the Live server URL and stream key in the software or service that sends the stream. A bucket is not a substitute for this step.
- Use a CDN where the delivery design calls for one. Google’s media guidance recommends a CDN for customer reads in content-serving workloads. Decide based on the actual reads and delivery path, not on an assumption that every YouTube stream needs a CDN in front of its source files.
- Keep and check a separate recording archive. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube Help recommends recording a local archive as a backup. Confirm that your local recording is being written and that the archive file continues to grow.
- Monitor the live output. YouTube advises monitoring stream audio and video quality. Check the active feed and the local recording rather than assuming that a successful upload or a connected storage bucket proves the stream is healthy.
Protect the video files and channel
Cloud storage is not the only copy worth keeping for a continuous channel. Retain a local archive independently of YouTube’s automatic archive, especially for a stream running longer than 12 hours. An external hard drive can serve as a local backup destination; it is a safety copy, not a way to deliver the live feed.

Before looping gameplay footage, music, or other material, make sure you have the rights and permissions needed for the content and its intended use. Repeated prerecorded content may also raise platform-policy and monetization questions; check YouTube’s current rules for your channel rather than assuming that owning a file or storing it in the cloud settles those issues.

Decision guide
- Pick Backblaze B2 if you need active object storage, can configure your own playout tools, and its included egress allowance and eligible routes fit your modeled usage.
- Pick Google Cloud Storage if you are assembling a managed media workflow and will evaluate storage, processing, network use, and CDN delivery together.
- Consider Wasabi only after checking that expected egress and current terms fit its stated pricing assumptions.
- Use Google Drive for desktop for desktop access and collaboration, not on the strength of an assumption that it alone provides resilient 24/7 YouTube playout.
- Use a cloud playout service such as StreamNeo when the need is an always-on YouTube feed from uploaded video, not simply another place to store source files.
