Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo show a YouTube Live playlist on a Raspberry Pi, use Raspberry Pi OS with its graphical desktop and Chromium, then configure Chromium to open the playlist’s normal YouTube page in kiosk mode at startup. Turn on autoplay in that Pi browser session. This creates a full-screen display, but YouTube does not guarantee that a live playlist will advance indefinitely without intervention, so plan how you will recover from a pause, ended stream, or error.
What you need
- A Raspberry Pi 3 or newer with at least 1 GB of RAM—the baseline Raspberry Pi’s official kiosk tutorial gives for a graphical browser kiosk, not a guarantee of smooth YouTube playback at every resolution.
- A suitable power supply and microSD card.
- A monitor or TV and the display cable that fits your Pi. Raspberry Pi 4 and later use micro-HDMI for display output; a micro-HDMI-to-HDMI cable or adapter is suitable for a standard HDMI screen.
- Network access, since the playlist and live video play from YouTube.
- A keyboard and mouse for initial setup, unless you configure network access and SSH while imaging and intend to manage the Pi remotely.
Raspberry Pi 4 and later support output up to 4K, with refresh rates depending on the model. That display-output capability does not establish that every YouTube codec or resolution will play smoothly. Choose a board based on local availability, its ports, the display you plan to use, and your playback needs; the cited Raspberry Pi guidance does not benchmark live YouTube playlist performance by model. See Raspberry Pi’s display and setup documentation.
Set up the Pi to open the playlist
- Install Raspberry Pi OS. Use Raspberry Pi Imager, complete the initial setup, and connect the Pi to your network. If you will operate it without a keyboard and mouse, configure network access and SSH during imaging.
- Open the playlist in Chromium. Use the playlist’s ordinary YouTube page as the browser destination. The Raspberry Pi kiosk tutorial uses Chromium launched with the
--kioskflag from the user autostart configuration; adapt its example by substituting your playlist URL. Follow the current Raspberry Pi kiosk-mode tutorial for the applicable autostart location and setup details for your OS installation. - Enable autoplay in that browser session. Start the playlist on the Pi and check the YouTube player’s autoplay control. YouTube settings can vary by device, so do not assume a setting enabled on a phone or TV also applies in Chromium on the Pi. YouTube explains the control in its autoplay help page.
- Make the display connection. Connect the monitor using the cable appropriate to your Pi model, then select the corresponding input on the monitor. On Pi 4 and later, use a micro-HDMI port with a micro-HDMI-to-HDMI cable or adapter for an ordinary HDMI display.
- Restart and verify. Reboot the Pi, confirm Chromium opens the intended playlist full-screen, and check that the live item plays. Test the setup long enough to see whether it handles the transitions and prompts relevant to your playlist; kiosk mode only controls the browser display, not YouTube’s playback behavior.
Choose a playlist page or a custom embed
Use the normal YouTube playlist page for the simplest setup
Point Chromium at the playlist’s ordinary YouTube page when you want the fewest moving parts. You can use the YouTube player controls directly, including its autoplay control. You may also encounter ordinary YouTube prompts or playback interruptions, so keep a way to access the Pi or restart Chromium.
Use an embedded playlist for a custom presentation
YouTube supports embedding a video or playlist in a webpage, and its embed documentation shows autoplay=1 as an autoplay parameter. If you need a custom layout, create or host an actual webpage that contains the embedded player, then open that page in Chromium. Do not use a bare youtube.com/embed/... address as the entire browser destination: YouTube says direct address-bar access lacks the enclosing-page context and commonly has no HTTP Referer, which can result in error 153. See YouTube’s embed videos and playlists guidance.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Option | Setup effort | Presentation control | Important consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal playlist page | Lowest: open the playlist URL in Chromium. | Uses YouTube’s page and player controls. | Check autoplay and handle player prompts in the Pi browser. |
| Custom webpage with an embedded playlist | Higher: create or provide a webpage containing the embed. | More control over the surrounding page. | Open the enclosing webpage, not the embed URL by itself; a missing Referer can cause error 153. |
Autoplay is not a 24/7 playback guarantee
Autoplay is a player convenience, not a documented promise that a live playlist will run forever unattended. YouTube’s general autoplay guidance describes the player switch and notes that settings can differ across devices; it does not certify continuous Raspberry Pi playback. Plan to check the display periodically or have a practical way to recover if playback pauses, the stream ends, or an error appears. YouTube’s help page also discusses inactivity limits in mobile-network and Wi-Fi situations, but does not establish that those details guarantee or prevent a particular Pi setup from staying live.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The Pi boots to a desktop instead of the playlist: Check the Chromium command and user autostart configuration against Raspberry Pi’s kiosk tutorial. Confirm the playlist URL is correct and that Chromium is installed.
- The browser opens, but not full-screen: Verify that the Chromium launch command includes
--kioskand that the command is being run from the intended user’s autostart configuration. - The playlist does not start the next item: Check the autoplay control in Chromium on the Pi. A different device’s autoplay setting may not carry over, and autoplay does not guarantee indefinite playlist playback.
- An embedded player reports error 153: Do not open the embed URL directly in the address bar. Open a webpage that contains the embed, or use the normal playlist page instead.
- The monitor shows no picture: Check that the cable matches the Pi’s display port, that it is fully connected, and that the monitor is set to the connected input. Pi 4 and later use micro-HDMI connectors.
- Video playback is choppy: The official kiosk baseline is for running a graphical browser kiosk, not a YouTube playback benchmark. Check the network connection and try a lower-resolution YouTube stream if available; the cited sources do not establish a specific Pi model or resolution that guarantees smooth playback.
Or let it run in the cloud
A Raspberry Pi kiosk plays YouTube on a local screen; it is not a cloud service that keeps your channel’s live stream running. If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. It streams your uploads as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos and streams to YouTube; it does not stream from a camera.
