Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is a story expansion framed by CD PROJEKT RED as a spy thriller, set in the new district of Dogtown. It adds more than a new plot: the publisher also lists a skill tree, gigs, side quests, weapons, items and repeatable open-world activities. Whether it is worth buying depends on what you own and where you play; the available official information establishes its scope, but not how its missions or combat hold up in practice.
What is Phantom Liberty?
Phantom Liberty is an expansion to Cyberpunk 2077, not a standalone game. CD PROJEKT RED presents it as an espionage adventure in which V navigates secrets and chooses allies carefully. That framing points to a story built around relationships and decisions, without establishing how much those choices change the overall experience.
The publisher’s official Phantom Liberty page sets out the spy-thriller premise. Its launch announcement, published September 25, 2023, describes a complex story in Dogtown and lists the expansion’s new activities and equipment. Those are publisher descriptions, not independent assessments of mission quality or pacing.

Is Phantom Liberty worth buying?
If you want more Cyberpunk 2077 focused on espionage, with a new district and additional activities, the officially listed features make Phantom Liberty a substantial expansion in scope. But deciding whether it is worth the price also depends on the current offer in your region and whether you already own the base game. The available product information does not establish current standalone prices, inventory or requirements on every store, and it cannot support a verdict on the story’s execution, performances, combat feel or technical performance.

Which edition or buying route makes sense?
Start by checking the platform you use, regional availability and the total price of the option you are considering. Treat buying the expansion alone and buying a bundle containing the base game and expansion as different routes; the bundle may be useful to newcomers or players who specifically want a physical copy.

What should a review verdict be based on?
The official material establishes the premise, setting and listed features, but not the experience of playing them. A fair critical judgment of the story’s pacing, performances, mission design, combat and technical state requires hands-on play or cited independent reviews. Based on what is established here, Phantom Liberty is a story expansion with a clear spy-thriller identity and a substantial feature list; a confident quality verdict would go beyond that evidence.
