For a playlist, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. Test privately or unlisted in YouTube’s Live Control Room before going public. These settings explain the technical setup; they do not grant permission to rebroadcast news footage.
Choose how OBS should repeat the footage
Use a Media Source for one local clip or VLC Video for a sequence. OBS lists MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM among supported local video formats. See the OBS Media Sources guide for source properties and format details.

Loop one clip with Media Source
- In OBS, select the scene for the broadcast. In Sources, choose + and add Media Source.
- Choose the local video file. Enable Loop.
- Enable Restart playback when source becomes active if you want playback to start over when the source becomes visible in the active scene.
- Check the program output: the clip should be visible and correctly framed there, not only in an editor preview. Confirm the intended audio is audible.
Loop a playlist with VLC Video
- Install VLC if needed; without it, OBS does not show the VLC Video source.
- Add VLC Video to the scene and populate its playlist with the clips in the intended order.
- Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the list. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed sequence, or turn it on to randomize order.
- Review the program output and listen through transitions, including the point where the playlist wraps back to its beginning.
Set YouTube-compatible video and audio encoding
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS, with frame rates up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport, CBR encoding, and a 2-second keyframe interval; do not exceed 4 seconds. For ordinary SDR, YouTube lists Rec. 709, 8-bit depth, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, and CABAC. Stereo audio guidance lists AAC or MP3 at 44.1 kHz, with 128 Kbps as its recommended stereo bitrate. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance for the applicable settings and recommendations.
For H.264, YouTube gives these bitrate figures. They are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not a guarantee of what a particular connection in India can sustain.

Choose the resolution and frame rate based on the source and what your machine and upstream connection can maintain. YouTube advises testing upload speed and keeping 20% spare capacity beyond the total streaming bitrate. If the connection is shared or variable, start with a lower resolution or bitrate and test again; a stable feed is more useful than a high setting that drops frames or disconnects. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select an encoder stream. YouTube’s workflow is described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into the corresponding connection fields in OBS. Treat the key like a password: it tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. Do not show it in screenshots, overlays, or other public material.
- Start streaming from OBS to populate the Live Control Room preview. Check the incoming stream’s health and confirm YouTube is receiving the intended video and audio.
- Before a public broadcast, run a private or unlisted test. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the actual stream and monitoring stream health and messages during the event.
Run a pre-broadcast test
Use a representative clip and let the test continue long enough to check playback and the loop or playlist transition. Verify each item before changing visibility to public:

- The clip repeats without an unintended blank scene or silent interval.
- Audio is present, in sync, and at a suitable level.
- The OBS program output and YouTube preview show the intended resolution and framing.
- The Live Control Room reports a healthy incoming stream.
- The connection has upload headroom, and other users or devices are not saturating the shared upstream link.
Check rights before rebroadcasting news footage
A working OBS loop is only a technical arrangement; it does not make a clip lawful to rebroadcast or establish that YouTube will allow it. Confirm you have permission and any necessary platform rights for every clip, including footage, audio, graphics, and third-party material within it. The technical setup guidance does not determine whether a particular Hindi news clip is licensed or what India-specific copyright rules apply to a particular use. Do not assume that attribution, a short excerpt, or availability online is permission.
