For an installed AWS Elemental Live system, use its REST API to automate event creation and changes, runtime input switching, dynamic playlists, and status checks. The examples below show the documented endpoint patterns and how they fit together; they are not complete request schemas, and the API guide in your appliance’s Support tab is the version-matched authority.
Which Elemental Live interface should you automate?
AWS Elemental Live is software and an appliance for formatting live video for broadcast television and streaming to internet-connected devices. Keep it distinct from AWS Elemental MediaLive, which has a separate API reference. The broader Elemental Live suite also includes Elemental Conductor for cluster management and optional Elemental Statmux for multi-program transport streams in a Conductor cluster. AWS Elemental Live
| Interface | Best fit | What AWS documents |
|---|---|---|
| REST | Repeatable event and runtime automation | AWS says the REST-based interface supports all web-interface features as well as automation features. Interfaces for Elemental Live |
| Browser web interface | Interactive setup and operator work | Provides the web interface for working with Elemental Live; REST also supports its features. Interfaces for Elemental Live |
| SNMP | Basic monitoring and control | AWS describes SNMP as an interface for basic monitoring and control. Interfaces for Elemental Live |
The REST API is therefore the natural choice when a system integrator or operator needs scripts or orchestration to create events, alter a running event’s playlist, and verify state. Use the appliance’s own API guide for authentication, request details, and release-specific behavior.
Create or modify an event
AWS’s basic event examples use HTTP POST to create an event and HTTP PUT to modify an existing event. Both use XML under a <live_event> root element.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
POST http://<Live IP Address>/live_events
PUT http://<Live IP Address>/live_events/<live event id>
AWS’s example payload sets an event name and configures a motion image inserter, including enable_rest. That is a feature-specific illustration, not a general event template: event fields, valid values, authentication, and any required headers must be taken from the API guide for your deployed release. Using the REST API
Automate inputs while an event is running
Dynamic playlists let an operator add or replace future inputs, prepare an upcoming input, and activate it immediately or at a specified time. AWS’s command table specifies lifecycle constraints; the paths below are documented patterns, not complete payload specifications. Several operations require a running event, and modifying or deleting an input is restricted to a non-active playlist input. Activate dynamic playlist input

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.

| Action | Documented path pattern | Constraint or result |
|---|---|---|
| Add inputs | POST /live_events/<event ID>/inputs |
Adds inputs to the end of the dynamic playlist for a running event. |
| Replace upcoming inputs | POST /live_events/<event ID>/playlist |
Replaces non-active playlist inputs with the supplied inputs, retaining the active input. |
| Get event and inputs | GET /live_events/<event ID> |
Retrieves the event and its inputs. |
| Modify an input | PUT /live_events/<event ID>/inputs/<input ID> |
Applies to a non-active playlist input. |
| Delete an input | DELETE /live_events/<event ID>/inputs/<input ID> |
Applies to a non-active playlist input. |
| Prepare an input | POST /live_events/<event ID>/prepare_input |
Prepares an input and can optionally schedule activation. |
| Activate an input | POST /live_events/<event ID>/activate_input |
Activates immediately or at a specified time. |
| Check event status | GET /live_events/<event ID>status |
Retrieves event status, including input stage and state. |
Confirm the exact endpoint suffix, payload format, timing fields, authentication, and API version against the installed guide before using any path in production.
Build an automation workflow around the playlist

- Establish the event and primary input. Create or modify the event using the event endpoints and the XML schema documented for your release.
- Construct the next playlist inputs. Add inputs to the end of the running event’s dynamic playlist, or replace the non-active entries while retaining the current active input.
- Prepare the next input if needed. Use
prepare_inputfor an upcoming transition, optionally scheduling its activation as the guide permits. - Activate at the intended moment. Use
activate_inputfor immediate activation or the documented scheduled-time behavior. - Verify the resulting state. Retrieve event status and check the input stage and state before treating the transition as complete.
Patterns AWS illustrates
- Interrupt a live input with file-based ad content and return to the live source.
- Switch from one live source to another.
- Use a looped file input as a temporary fallback during an unexpected event, then return to live input.
- Sequence movie and ad segments before switching back to a live feed.
Depending on the workflow, a return or source switch can be scheduled or initiated through the REST “Activate Dynamic Playlist Input” operation. AWS dynamic playlist examples
Match examples to the installed release
AWS’s current user-document coverage applies to Elemental Live 2.17 and later, and Conductor 3.17 and later. That does not establish that every example or field works unchanged on every deployment. Open the appliance web interface’s Support tab and consult its Elemental Live API guide for the installed release before copying requests. AWS lists the separate user and API guides on its documentation page. Elemental Live documentation · Elemental Live API guide

Or let it run in the cloud
Elemental Live is for operators automating a deployed broadcast and streaming system. If your narrower need is keeping uploaded video live on a YouTube channel around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded video, not a camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs from the cloud.
- One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card.
