Use Elgato’s free OBS integration to put OBS controls—such as scene changes, mute toggles and stream start/stop—on Stream Deck keys. Set up OBS and YouTube first, map and test the keys, then monitor the broadcast: a Stream Deck is a control surface, not an uptime system, and it cannot guarantee an unattended 24/7 stream.
What you need before setting up the keys
- OBS Studio, with the scenes and sources your broadcast will use.
- The Stream Deck app and Elgato’s OBS Studio integration. Elgato’s integration article lists Stream Deck 5.3 or newer and OBS Studio 27.0 or newer as requirements for its documented setup; check current app and operating-system compatibility before installing. Elgato’s OBS integration guide describes the supported actions.
- A Stream Deck device. The plugin is free; install it through Elgato Marketplace or the Stream Deck app.
- A YouTube stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
The OBS plugin provides the controls; a Stream Deck device is an optional physical way to trigger them. It does not replace OBS or YouTube Studio.
Prepare OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Build the broadcast in OBS. Create and name the scenes, add the video, audio and other sources, and check which sources need visibility or mute controls. If you plan to use Preview-to-Program actions, enable Studio Mode in OBS.
- Get the YouTube ingest details. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube uses the key to identify and accept the encoder feed; treat it like a password. Never show it on a Stream Deck key label, in a screen capture, or on a public profile. See YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance.
- Start with a test. Start the encoder and check that YouTube receives the feed. For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the Live Control Room preview and follow the go-live steps shown for that stream before assuming the audience can watch.
Add OBS controls to Stream Deck
- Open the Stream Deck app and choose the profile for the device you will use to operate OBS.
- Find the OBS actions in the actions list and drag the controls you need onto keys. Configure each action for the intended scene, source or operation, then give the key a clear label.
- Start with a small, legible control set: a scene selector, a microphone or source mute toggle, a media restart or stop control if your program uses an OBS media source, and a stream start/stop control.
- Test every key while watching OBS. Confirm the corresponding action in the program output and, where relevant, in YouTube’s preview. Make the stop-stream action visually distinct from routine scene or audio controls.
Available integration actions include scene selection, source visibility, source audio mute/unmute, Studio Mode, transitions, media-source controls and stream start/stop. Source-visibility actions apply to the currently selected OBS Scene Collection, so confirm that the intended collection is active before relying on them. Preview-to-Program requires Studio Mode.
When Multi Actions help—and when they do not
A Multi Action runs a configured sequence from one key and can include delays between actions. For example, you could select the opening scene, wait for OBS to settle, start a local recording, wait again, and then start streaming. Elgato’s guide illustrates a similar sequence. Read Elgato’s Multi Action instructions for setup.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use delays only to give applications time to respond; they do not verify that a step succeeded. Test the sequence repeatedly before using it on air, and keep individual keys available for recovery if one action fails.
Plan for unattended operation and YouTube’s archive limits
A Stream Deck key can tell OBS to start streaming, but it cannot keep the computer, OBS, power, internet connection or YouTube ingest continuously available. The official OBS integration and YouTube monitoring guidance do not establish a Stream Deck configuration that guarantees 24/7 uptime. An unattended broadcast needs a separate plan for power and network interruptions, OBS or system restarts, and checking that audio and video remain healthy.

YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview, verifying that local archive files are growing, checking playback on watch pages and mobile devices, and monitoring stream quality. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and troubleshooting guidance.
Do not count on YouTube to create a complete replay of one continuous 24/7 broadcast. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; DVR may also be limited or unavailable for very long streams. The guidance was accessed October 3, 2026. If keeping the full program matters, record locally and plan how to divide the broadcast and manage its archives. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance and DVR guidance.

Choose a device layout that suits the operator
Elgato’s profile documentation lists device options including Mini (6 keys), Neo (8), standard Stream Deck (15), XL (32), and Stream Deck + options with dials. Choose by the number of controls you need visible at once, available desk space, and whether dials help your workflow; the OBS actions come from the integration, not a particular device model. Check current device compatibility and availability before buying.
Profiles can separate workflows and contain plugin actions, folders and pages. Elgato notes that profiles are specific to operating system and device type. For a broadcast that runs continuously, keep the live-control profile obvious and avoid automatic app-based profile switching that could hide important keys while OBS is running. Elgato’s profile guide explains profile setup.

Common problems and fixes
- An OBS action is missing: Install or update the OBS integration through Elgato Marketplace or the Stream Deck app, then check that your app versions meet the integration guide’s documented requirements.
- A source-visibility key affects the wrong setup: Confirm the active OBS Scene Collection; visibility actions are tied to the selected collection.
- Preview-to-Program does nothing: Enable Studio Mode in OBS before using that action.
- YouTube does not show an incoming preview: Check that OBS has the intended stream URL and current stream key, then confirm OBS is actively sending. Keep the key private while troubleshooting.
- A Multi Action only partly completes: Test each action on its own, adjust sequencing or delays, and retain individual controls. A delay cannot confirm success.
- The broadcast stops while unattended: A Stream Deck command cannot recover a powered-off computer, failed network or crashed OBS by itself. Check the computer, connection, OBS output and YouTube Live Control Room, then restart the encoder or stream as appropriate.
- A long broadcast has no complete YouTube replay: YouTube may not archive streams over 12 hours. Use local recording and a deliberate segmentation and archive plan if a full copy is required.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube stream of uploaded videos rather than a camera-based OBS production, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
