These are separate jobs: the YouTube schedule creates the upcoming event; the plugin schedules actions inside OBS. You still need to confirm the feed in YouTube’s Live Control Room and follow the event’s go-live workflow.
What each part of the setup does
- YouTube Studio creates and schedules the public live event. Viewers can see an upcoming event and opt into reminders.
- OBS Studio encodes and sends the video and audio feed to YouTube using the event’s stream URL and stream key.
- Advanced Scene Switcher automates actions inside OBS. It supports date-and-time conditions and media-related conditions and actions; it does not create or schedule the YouTube event.
Scheduling a macro does not, by itself, guarantee that the YouTube broadcast will start or become public without operator intervention. YouTube has auto-start and auto-stop settings, but test the exact event and encoder configuration you plan to use.
Check compatibility and prepare the playlist
Confirm your OBS and plugin versions
The OBS resource listing reports Advanced Scene Switcher 1.36.1, last updated August 7, 2026, with OBS Studio 31.1.1 as the minimum version and Windows, macOS, and Linux support. Check the current resource listing and your installed versions before installing or updating, since compatibility requirements can change. The plugin’s 1.34.0 update history introduced a Macro Schedule tab for scheduling macro actions by date and time. Its update notes also advise backing up settings.
Make the media sequence predictable
In OBS, add and configure the media sources and scenes you intend to show, then confirm that the playlist behaves as expected during ordinary playback. Decide what should happen at each transition and what OBS should do when playback ends. Macro details depend on the playlist source and desired behavior; the plugin documentation does not establish one universal, turnkey playlist macro.

Before changing an existing production setup, back up your plugin settings. Rehearse the sequence in OBS and verify video, audio, scene changes, and any intended restart or repeat behavior rather than assuming that a scheduled macro will handle every end-of-playback case.
Schedule the YouTube live event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Choose Manage, then schedule a stream. You can reuse settings or create a new event.
- Set the event details and schedule it for the time viewers should be able to find it. The scheduled watch page can appear as upcoming, where viewers may opt into reminders.
- Open the event’s stream settings and keep the stream URL and stream key available for the OBS connection. Treat the key as a credential: do not show it in screenshots or recordings. If it is compromised, reset it through the Live Control Room.
Connect OBS to the scheduled event
Use the stream URL and stream key belonging to the scheduled event, not a different event’s connection details. In OBS, open the stream configuration, select the appropriate YouTube connection method, and enter or select that event’s URL and key as required by your setup. The labels and available connection methods can vary by OBS version and account setup, so verify the destination in YouTube rather than relying on a saved connection alone.

Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes it as the information that lets the encoder send the feed to the correct stream, and provides a reset flow in Live Control Room if you need to replace it.
Build and schedule the OBS macros
Configure the playback actions
- Open Advanced Scene Switcher in OBS and create a macro for the playback behavior you need.
- Use the plugin’s media-related conditions and actions, along with scene or other appropriate actions, to match your actual source setup. For example, the macro sequence may need to respond to media playback state and then change a scene or start the next intended item.
- Test the macro manually first. Confirm that the condition becomes true at the expected point and that the action produces the intended result. Do not assume the same macro will work unchanged with a different media source or playlist design.
Set the schedule
In the plugin’s Macro Schedule tab, schedule the macro actions for the required date and time. The tab was added in Advanced Scene Switcher 1.34.0; if it is missing, check the installed plugin version and compatibility before proceeding. Scheduling actions in this tab controls OBS behavior—it does not schedule the YouTube event, start the encoder process on a powered-off computer, or replace YouTube’s event controls.

Rehearse the full event and go live
- Set up early. YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours ahead of a live stream. This is guidance, not a requirement that every broadcast use exactly that lead time.
- Start the encoder ahead of the event. YouTube recommends starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Start streaming from OBS and verify that the feed reaches the correct event.
- Check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the intended playlist content appears and that the picture, audio, and timing are correct.
- Complete YouTube’s go-live step. Follow the documented Live Control Room workflow to make the event live. Do not treat an OBS macro schedule alone as confirmation that YouTube has published the broadcast.
- Test any unattended behavior separately. YouTube provides auto-start and auto-stop options. Their effect depends on the event settings, so rehearse the exact combination you intend to use before relying on it for a scheduled broadcast.
Troubleshoot common scheduling problems
The scheduled event does not show the OBS feed
- Check that OBS is actively streaming.
- Verify that the stream URL and key in OBS belong to the scheduled YouTube event.
- Inspect the event’s Live Control Room preview before taking the go-live step.
The macro does not run at the intended time
- Confirm that your installed Advanced Scene Switcher version includes the Macro Schedule tab.
- Check the scheduled date and time and whether the macro is enabled in the plugin.
- Test the macro’s conditions and actions manually; date/time scheduling cannot fix a condition that never matches the media source’s actual playback state.
The playlist or scene transition behaves differently than expected
- Reproduce the sequence in OBS before the event and verify the configured media source, transition, and action order.
- Revisit the macro for the specific playlist source you use. The plugin’s documented feature categories do not guarantee a single macro design for every source arrangement.
The stream key may have been exposed
Reset the key in YouTube Live Control Room, then update the OBS connection to use the replacement. Do not continue using a key that may have been shared publicly.
Plan for archive limits and content rights
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Treat that as YouTube’s stated behavior for streams under that duration, not as an archive guarantee for longer unattended playlist broadcasts.

Use only video and audio you have the rights to stream. Scheduling a playlist does not change YouTube’s copyright rules or guarantee that a stream will remain available. Check that the material is permitted for your channel and that your use complies with YouTube’s applicable policies before broadcasting.
