It can handle the technical broadcast, but it does not provide music rights or guarantee that YouTube will leave a stream uninterrupted or monetize it. What Castr does for a prerecorded music channel
Castr’s prerecorded-live workflow is aimed at finished videos: upload a video, choose a start time, and broadcast it as a live stream to YouTube or other supported destinations. Its feature descriptions also list video playlists, scheduling, and loop mode. Those capabilities can suit a scheduled music broadcast or a continuous channel, but the two use cases are not identical.
Scheduled prerecorded live
Choose this route when you want a particular finished video to begin at a particular time and appear to viewers as a live broadcast. It is the closer fit for a scheduled event or a planned broadcast block. Before relying on it for recurring programming, confirm how the current Castr plan handles repeat schedules, playlist limits, and gaps between items.
Continuous playout
For a channel intended to stay on, investigate Castr’s dedicated TV playout workflow as well as its prerecorded-live feature. Castr describes a channel assembled from recorded media that can be scheduled and looped, then sent through a Castr livestream to an embedded player, social destinations, RTMP/SRT endpoints, or OTT apps. Confirm that the plan you are considering supports the file count, playlist behavior, schedule changes, and output you need. Continuous playout should not be assumed to mean unlimited storage or unlimited viewer delivery.

Connecting Castr to YouTube
Castr’s YouTube help article, published May 19, 2023, describes connecting through an API or setting up the broadcast manually with YouTube’s stream server and stream key. Interfaces can change, so use the current Castr and YouTube screens if a label differs from that help article. With a manual stream-key setup, the article says to edit the stream description in YouTube’s dashboard.
- Choose the workflow in Castr. Use prerecorded live for a scheduled finished video; assess continuous playout for a channel that needs playlists, scheduling, or looping.
- Connect the YouTube destination. Use Castr’s YouTube connection option, or enter YouTube’s server and stream key if using manual setup. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the stream.
- Set the schedule or rundown. Add the intended recorded media and check its order, start time, and loop or schedule behavior. Confirm what happens if a file ends before the next item is ready.
- Check the YouTube-side details. Verify the destination channel and broadcast details in YouTube Studio, including the description when using a manual stream-key workflow.
- Run a short validation broadcast. Confirm that the right video and audio reach the intended YouTube channel, that the schedule begins as expected, and that the YouTube stream is not blocked or interrupted before committing to a long run.

Annual billing is optional in the published comparison, which presents a larger upfront annual bandwidth pool. The page lists a seven-day trial for Starter, not every plan. It also advertises a 99.9% uptime SLA; that is Castr’s stated SLA, not an independently measured uptime result.
Choose by the actual broadcast, not the plan name
- One YouTube output: do not pay for destination capacity you will not use; check the current concurrent-stream allowance and whether it covers your planned outputs.
- Audience size: estimate viewer delivery against the bandwidth pool. A continuous stream can consume bandwidth throughout its run, so include stream quality, viewing hours, and audience demand in the estimate.
- Media library: compare the total stored video against the plan’s storage allowance, not just the size of one playlist.
- Extra outputs or controls: look at destination caps and whether you actually need listed features such as an HLS live URL, API access, failover ingest, or OTT features.
- Unclear playlist limits: ask Castr to confirm the exact limits and behavior for your scheduled or continuous playout before relying on a plan for a long-running channel.
Music rights, interruptions, and monetization
Castr does not license the music
A working YouTube connection is not permission to broadcast the tracks. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to hold the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights involving artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. That may include public-performance rights. Rights depend on the particular recordings, compositions, territories, and intended use; do not assume that buying a track, subscribing to a music service, or crediting an artist is enough to authorize a public livestream.

YouTube can interrupt a technically valid stream
YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content and may temporarily interrupt or terminate a stream when it detects such material. Its guidance also says that even licensed third-party content may require the channel to be added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. Obtain the relevant permissions and any required allowlisting before scheduling a long broadcast, and keep documentation available.
Live delivery does not guarantee monetization
YouTube evaluates monetization under its channel policies, including a channel-level reused-content review. On July 15, 2025, YouTube’s policy notice renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and said the reused-content policy had not changed. A stream that Castr successfully sends to YouTube is not evidence that the channel or its music programming qualifies for monetization; originality, rights, and policy compliance are separate questions.
