A changed public IP address does not, by itself, mean you need to change a YouTube stream setting. YouTube’s encoder setup uses a server URL and stream key; a brief ISP or router reconnection can still interrupt the encoder’s connection to YouTube. First check whether the encoder is sending again and whether your internet connection has recovered, then troubleshoot the key only if YouTube or the encoder reports a start error.
First distinguish the stream connection from the viewer-facing page
Your encoder sends video to YouTube using the server URL and stream key configured for the live stream. The live page is what viewers watch. A change to your home or studio’s public IP can happen alongside a router WAN reconnection or a wider internet interruption, but YouTube’s standard encoder setup does not list a fixed public IP as a normal prerequisite. A new IP alone therefore does not establish why a stream dropped or mean that the live page needs a new setting.
YouTube’s setup instructions describe the server URL and stream key used by an encoder: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. They do not diagnose the specific cause of an individual interruption.
What to check after an ISP reconnection
- Check the router’s internet connection. Confirm that the router has restored internet access after the ISP event. If the connection is still down or repeatedly reconnecting, the encoder cannot reliably send to YouTube.
- Check the encoder’s status and log. Look for whether it is sending data, attempting to reconnect, or reporting a start or authentication error. If it is still configured to send but there is no internet access, address the connection interruption first.
- Verify the current YouTube stream settings. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room for the current stream and confirm the server URL and stream key match the values configured in the encoder. YouTube’s guidance for an encoder start error is to check the key in Live Control Room and update the encoder if needed: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.
- Keep the key private. Treat the stream key as a credential. Reset it if it has been exposed or if troubleshooting indicates it is wrong; after resetting, replace the saved key in the encoder as well.
- If using RTMPS, verify the matching server URL. You can select or copy the RTMPS URL in Live Control Room and configure it with the stream key. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP protected by TLS/SSL: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS. Encryption does not make a stream immune to a dropped ISP connection.
Does YouTube require a static IP?
For the ordinary YouTube encoder workflow covered by YouTube’s setup guidance, the documented connection details are a server URL and stream key, not a static public IP. Do not order a static-IP service solely on the assumption that YouTube Live requires one.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
There are services with different requirements. The National Informatics Centre’s government webcast service describes a static public IP requirement in connection with sharing the address for IP whitelisting. That is specific to its webcast service, not evidence of a YouTube Live requirement: NIC Webcast Services.
How to identify what actually caused the drop
A WAN address change can be just one part of the event. To narrow down the cause, record the timing and compare the router and encoder evidence:

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Router WAN status and event log: note when the WAN link disconnected or reconnected and whether the public address changed.
- Encoder reconnect and error log: note when sending stopped, whether reconnection was attempted, and any reported key or start error.
- ISP outage or reconnection time: compare the provider’s reported event, if available, with the router and encoder timestamps.
This can help distinguish a new public IP from a router WAN event, CGNAT behavior, or a full loss of internet connectivity. Without those symptoms and logs, the specific cause cannot be determined. A VPN or a particular router is not established as a fix for this YouTube case.
