First find where the audio and video stop matching: compare the lesson source, encoder output, local recording, and YouTube playback before changing settings. If the local recording is also out of sync, investigate the source and encoder path. If it is aligned but YouTube playback is not, focus on the stream or YouTube ingest and playback. Also note whether the mismatch stays roughly constant or gets worse over time; those patterns point to different problems, but do not by themselves prove a cause.
Diagnose the first point where sync breaks
Make comparisons using the same moment in the lesson, ideally one with both speech and visible movement, such as a speaker’s mouth, a cursor action, or a slide animation. Check each copy in order and note where the timing first differs.
- Lesson/source output: Check whether the audio and picture are aligned before they enter the encoder.
- Encoder preview or output: Compare it with the source. Check the encoder’s own status, errors, and CPU load.
- Local recording: Play the file from the beginning and again later in the recording. Keep it for comparison rather than overwriting it during troubleshooting.
- YouTube playback: Compare the same moments with the local file. If possible, use another device or browser to see whether the mismatch is limited to one viewer’s setup.
YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder, local archive, CPU load, and encoder errors; if the encoder output appears healthy, it also points operators to the outbound internet connection.
Use the pattern to choose what to investigate
The local recording is out of sync too
The fault is already present by the time the local file is made, so start upstream: inspect the audio and video sources routed into the encoder, their timing, and the encoder’s state. Check that the encoder is not reporting errors or being overloaded. YouTube advises checking the source and local archive, but does not give one universal audio-delay setting that applies to every encoder. Do not apply a guessed delay value without identifying which path is introducing it.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The local recording is aligned, but YouTube playback is not
Inspect the encoder’s live output and YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages. If the encoder output is aligned but YouTube playback is not, check the connection carrying the stream and the actual ingest warnings rather than changing unrelated settings. A single viewer’s device can also affect playback, so compare on another device before treating the stream itself as the only possible cause.
The mismatch is present in an uploaded or archived video
For an uploaded video, YouTube specifically says to make sure the audio and video track durations match and, if they do not, edit the tracks in video-editing software before uploading. That guidance concerns uploads; it is not a general live-stream sync correction. See YouTube’s upload audio/video troubleshooting steps.

The offset is steady, or it grows over time
A steady offset and a mismatch that accumulates are useful observations to record, not diagnoses on their own. Compare the beginning and a later point in the source, encoder output, local recording, and YouTube copy. If the error appears at the same stage in both comparisons, concentrate troubleshooting there; if it grows only in one copy, focus on the path that produces that copy. The available YouTube guidance does not establish a universal measurement method or correction for every encoder.
Check stream settings without assuming they are the cause
Read the specific warning shown in YouTube Live Control Room and compare it with the encoder’s configuration. YouTube documents error cases involving H.264 video and AAC audio, and recommends a 44.1 kHz sample rate in the described audio-setting cases. It also instructs operators to use the same audio sample rate on primary and backup streams. These are configuration checks: changing a format or sample rate may address a matching warning, but is not proof that it will fix every sync fault. See YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting page.

- Use the format and sample-rate values indicated by the actual YouTube health message for your stream.
- If you have primary and backup streams, verify that their audio sample rates match.
- After a change, compare the encoder output, a new local recording, and YouTube playback at both an early and a later point.
Protect a 24/7 stream’s recording
Do not rely on YouTube’s archive as the only copy of a continuous lesson stream. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all; it recommends keeping a local archive backup. Because a 24/7 stream exceeds that threshold, verify that your own recording is running, that the file is growing, and that it can be played back. Details are on YouTube’s live-stream archiving page.
Test the fix and watch for recurrence
- Use a representative test segment with speech and visible movement, not only a silent slide or static image.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages while the test is running.
- Record locally and confirm that the file is growing and plays correctly.
- Compare the beginning and a later point in the local recording and YouTube playback to catch a mismatch that changes over time.
- After correcting a confirmed issue, repeat the comparison before relying on the setup for a long lesson stream.
Troubleshooting checklist
- Encoder preview and local file both have the problem: Check the routed sources, source timing, encoder errors, and CPU load before changing YouTube settings.
- Encoder preview looks right, but YouTube does not: Check the Live Control Room health messages and inspect the outbound connection. Compare playback on another device as well.
- YouTube reports an audio format or sample-rate warning: Match the encoder setting to the warning; for the described YouTube audio cases, AAC and 44.1 kHz are among the documented checks. Do not treat this as a guaranteed sync fix.
- Only an uploaded file is wrong: Compare audio and video track durations and correct the tracks in editing software before uploading.
- The YouTube archive is missing or incomplete: Check your local recording. Streams over 12 hours may not be captured as a YouTube archive.
- A replacement microphone, cable, capture card, or encoder seems tempting: The sync symptom alone does not identify a failed component. Diagnose the path before buying hardware.
Or let it run in the cloud
