If it does not reconnect, use OBS dropped-frame indicators and YouTube’s timestamped stream-health errors to identify whether the problem is the local network, available upload capacity, or stream format.
Prepare OBS for a brief connection drop
- Open OBS Studio > Settings > Advanced and enable automatic reconnect. OBS documents reconnect configuration in Advanced settings. The exact controls and labels can vary by OBS version.
- Set the retry count and retry delay to cover a plausible short outage. OBS output documentation describes a maximum retry count and a wait that doubles after each attempt. The total retry window depends on those settings; reconnect is an attempt, not a guarantee that the stream will recover.
- Before an event, test with representative video motion and audio. Choose a quality that your connection can sustain, monitor YouTube stream health, and use RTMPS as YouTube recommends. Avoid making last-minute bitrate changes during a live interruption unless the diagnostics point to capacity trouble.
OBS does not publish an India-specific reconnect fix, and the official guidance does not identify a particular Indian ISP, city, plan, or access technology as the cause of brief drops.
Check whether the stream has recovered
- When the interruption ends, give OBS time to run its configured reconnect attempts. Check that OBS reports active transmission.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room for the event. Confirm that it is receiving the feed, that a preview appears, and that stream health is acceptable.
- Compare the time of the interruption with any timestamped YouTube error. An OBS connection indication by itself does not confirm that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.
Diagnose why OBS keeps disconnecting
OBS shows dropped frames or an unstable connection
OBS says dropped frames indicate instability between the computer and the remote ingest server, or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. A sufficiently high number can lead to disconnection. Lowering the video bitrate may help the stream fit available upload capacity, but it reduces quality and does not repair the underlying cause of an ISP fault.
As a starting point, OBS suggests setting bitrate to 75% of total upload speed. Treat that as a starting estimate rather than a guarantee: upload capacity can fluctuate, and a brief test may not represent conditions during a long stream.

YouTube reports a stream configuration or format error
Read the exact message in Live Control Room before changing settings. If YouTube reports an incorrect stream format, its guidance specifies H.264 video and AAC audio. A format error is different from an ISP interruption; changing codecs will not restore a failed internet connection.
The encoder looks healthy but the feed is still not reaching YouTube
If OBS appears to be sending normally while YouTube reports a connection or ingest problem, test the outbound internet connection. YouTube advises contacting the ISP if testing points to a connection problem. Keep the error text and timestamps so you can describe when the issue occurred and what OBS and YouTube showed.

Test the local network before replacing equipment
- Try wired Ethernet. OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi can be unstable. A cable can help test whether the wireless link is involved, but it cannot provide internet while the ISP connection itself is down.
- Check the path between the PC and router. Inspect the Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection, modem, router, cables, network card, and other network devices. Consider whether VPN or security software may be interfering.
- Escalate with evidence. If those checks do not resolve the issue, OBS advises contacting the ISP. Share the timing and diagnostic details; one short drop alone does not establish that the provider is at fault or that equipment needs replacing.
