If an episode’s audio file is missing or unreachable when YouTube imports it from an RSS feed, YouTube’s public guidance does not say exactly what happens. It does not confirm whether YouTube skips the episode, shows an error, publishes an unavailable video, or retries automatically. If audio is wrong or needs replacing after a video has been published, the documented fix is to re-upload that episode from RSS in YouTube Studio.
First, identify which YouTube podcast workflow you mean
Creators can connect a podcast RSS feed in YouTube Studio so selected episodes appear as videos on their YouTube channel. For an audio-first podcast, YouTube uses the show’s artwork as a static image. YouTube treats the podcast as a playlist and its episodes as videos. YouTube Help: Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed
A separate feature lets a listener add an RSS feed to their personal YouTube Music library. That does not create videos on the podcast owner’s channel; the show appears in the listener’s library instead. The two workflows have different controls and outcomes.
| Workflow | Who connects the feed | Where episodes appear | Does it create channel videos? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creator RSS delivery | The channel owner, in YouTube Studio | The channel’s podcast playlist | Yes. YouTube turns selected episodes into videos. |
| Listener-added RSS feed | The listener, in YouTube Music | The listener’s personal library | No. It does not create a video on the podcast owner’s channel. |
The listener-added route also lacks features available for YouTube-hosted podcasts, including audio/video switching, likes and dislikes, sharing, a podcast channel page, reporting, and captions. YouTube Music Help: Add a podcast by RSS feed

What if the source audio is missing or unreachable?
YouTube’s creator guidance does not specify the result when an RSS episode’s audio enclosure URL is missing or inaccessible before or during import. The official pages reviewed do not establish whether YouTube skips the episode, displays a particular error, creates a video that cannot play, or automatically retries. Do not assume a specific status or recovery behavior from the absence of an episode.
Start by checking the exact feed connected to the channel: is the episode listed there, and does its enclosure point to the intended audio file? If the episode is absent from that feed, correct the feed or contact the podcast host; YouTube cannot ingest an item the connected feed does not provide. That is a practical check based on how feed delivery works, not a published YouTube error rule.

What if the audio file changed after YouTube published the episode?
Changing or replacing the audio file in the RSS feed does not update the audio in an already-published YouTube video. YouTube says RSS-ingested video audio cannot be updated after publication. The documented option is to re-upload the episode from the feed in Studio. This creates a new video and makes the old video private; YouTube says access to metrics such as views and comments is retained. YouTube Help: Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed
- Open YouTube Studio → Content → Podcasts.
- Open the podcast’s Videos and find the episode.
- Open the episode’s menu and select Re-upload from RSS feed.
- Check the new video after processing. Expect the previous video to become private.
Use this procedure when the published video contains outdated or incorrect audio. It is not a documented fix for an enclosure that YouTube could not fetch in the first place.

Allow time for a new feed import, but don’t treat waiting as a guaranteed fix
YouTube says initial setup can take a few days for episodes to upload. It recommends waiting until all selected episodes finish uploading before making the podcast public. This timing advice concerns feed setup; it does not promise that an episode with a missing or unreachable audio file will eventually appear. YouTube Help: Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed
If the episode is newly submitted, confirm that the feed contains it and allow for the documented upload delay. Check the episode’s status in Studio before publishing the podcast. If an episode remains absent or unavailable, the official guidance does not provide a specific enclosure-error diagnosis or retry schedule.

If a podcast video was deleted, check whether its episode remains in the feed
Deleting a video from a YouTube podcast and removing an episode from the RSS feed are separate actions. YouTube says a deleted video will be uploaded again if the episode remains in the connected RSS feed. If the goal is to keep the video out of the podcast without triggering that behavior, set its visibility to private instead of deleting it. YouTube Help: Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed
For listeners: refresh the personal RSS feed cautiously
If you added the podcast’s RSS URL to your YouTube Music library, that is a listener-side feed, not the creator’s Studio import. You can remove and re-add the feed from your library, but YouTube does not promise that doing so fixes an unavailable enclosure. A feed-added show may take minutes or longer to appear. Check ordering before concluding an episode is missing
For RSS-ingested videos, YouTube orders episodes by the release date in the RSS feed when one is available; otherwise it uses the YouTube publish date. YouTube says it does not verify the release date, and the date shown can differ between YouTube surfaces. An episode may therefore appear out of order rather than be absent. Confirm the channel is eligible for RSS delivery
RSS delivery availability depends on the channel owner’s location. Check YouTube’s current list of eligible locations if the option to connect an RSS feed is unavailable. YouTube Help: Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed
Quick troubleshooting checklist
- The episode is missing from the channel podcast: Check whether it appears in the exact RSS feed connected in Studio. If it does, allow for the initial upload delay and check Studio for completion.
- The published video has old or corrected audio: In Studio, use the episode menu’s Re-upload from RSS feed option. YouTube creates a new video and makes the prior one private.
- A deleted episode video returns: Check whether its episode remains in the RSS feed. Set the video to private if you want it hidden while the feed item remains.
- The episode seems out of order: Check its RSS release date and the date shown on the YouTube surface you are viewing.
- An RSS-added show is missing from your YouTube Music library: Give it time to appear. Removing and re-adding the feed is possible, but is not a documented cure for a broken enclosure.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live 24/7 with uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a separate option from podcast RSS delivery: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube, not a live camera feed. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
