What’s actually slowing this PC down?

You can run a comedy podcast rerun stream through YouTube Live by feeding a prepared playlist to an encoder, then sending that encoder’s output to a YouTube event. For an all-day stream, plan sessions shorter than 12 hours if you want YouTube’s automatic archive, check rights for every audio and visual element, and arrange monitoring and local recording. A continuous feed is possible, but neither uninterrupted service nor monetization of reruns is guaranteed.
Check channel eligibility and rights before scheduling
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube lists channel verification, no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and a minimum age of 16 for streaming. Check the channel’s current status before building the schedule; eligibility and interface details can change. See YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started requirements.
Clear the entire episode, not just the spoken comedy
For every episode, review rights to the hosts’ and guests’ performances, intro and outro music, background music, sound effects, guest clips, artwork, and sponsor or ad reads. A podcast’s permission for audio distribution does not necessarily cover a YouTube video or a livestream. Keep licenses and permissions available, and ask any relevant music or clip owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party copyrighted material. It can replace the stream with a placeholder, issue a warning, interrupt or terminate the stream if a match remains. A license alone may not prevent an interruption when the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. Claims can also be made against an archived live stream after it ends. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Prepare the rerun playlist and on-screen presentation
Build a deliberate sequence
Arrange episodes in a sequence that makes sense for someone joining at any point. Consider rotating themes or recurring segments, and use episode labels or a now-playing card so viewers can tell what is on. Test transitions and the beginning and ending of each file; long pauses, clipped punchlines, or abrupt volume changes are easy to miss when episodes are assembled into a loop.
Make authorship and added value clear
Keep the presentation accurate about the material being rerun. A static template is not a substitute for original programming, and adding a playlist or overlay does not by itself establish monetization eligibility. YouTube’s channel-level policies cover both live streams and uploaded videos. Its July 15, 2025 policy update renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible; YouTube said the reused-content policy did not change. Reviewers may consider the channel’s videos, descriptions, and titles. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Create the YouTube Live event and connect an encoder
- Create or schedule a stream: Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to reach Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling can give viewers a page to find and let them opt into reminders.
- Copy the connection details: In Live Control Room, copy the stream server URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. Use RTMPS where the encoder supports it for encrypted delivery. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes third-party encoder workflows.
- Protect the stream key: Treat it like a password; anyone with the key may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the new key.
- Preview before going live: Start the encoder feed and wait for it to appear in Live Control Room. Check picture, audio, and stream health. For a scheduled stream, click Go Live after the preview is ready.
Menu labels may change as YouTube updates Studio. Use the current Live Control Room options for your channel rather than assuming every account has an identical layout.

Choose encoder settings your connection can sustain
For a rerun, consistent audio and a stable feed matter more than choosing the highest resolution. Outgoing upload capacity is the constraint. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom and accounting for any primary and backup streams; test at the intended settings with representative audio and motion before committing to a long session. Its live encoder settings guide lists RTMP/RTMPS and codec options including H.264, H.265, and AV1, depending on protocol and encoder support.

| Codec | YouTube minimum | YouTube recommended |
|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265 | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that an internet connection at the listed rate will remain stable. Use constant bitrate (CBR), set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds where available, and do not exceed 4 seconds. YouTube’s settings page supports up to 60 fps; choose a frame rate appropriate to the source and encoder. Do not select a codec your encoder cannot send.
Run a test stream long enough to expose weak Wi-Fi, upload fluctuations, audio drift, or a file-transition problem. Check the stream-health indicator in Live Control Room as well as playback from another device. If the feed drops frames or buffers, lower the bitrate or resolution and test again rather than relying on a brief successful preview.

Choose a schedule that protects the archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If having a YouTube replay matters, end each session before the 12-hour threshold and start a separate event for the next block. A stream that is merely close to the threshold leaves little margin for delays or an unexpectedly late shutdown.
| Approach | When it fits | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| One session under 12 hours | A one-off all-day event where a YouTube archive is desired | Another session requires a planned restart or handoff. |
| Repeating shorter sessions | Daily or continuing programming where archive capture matters | Each event needs management and monitoring, and produces its own live event and potential archive. |
| Continuous feed with API-based broadcast management | Technical teams that need to manage viewer-facing events while an encoder feed continues | More setup and operational complexity; it does not remove archive, copyright, or availability limits. |
YouTube’s developer documentation describes a 24/7 broadcast use case and distinguishes a broadcast (the viewer-facing event) from a stream (the encoder feed). That is an option for technical teams, not a requirement for a creator setting up a basic rerun. It does not promise uninterrupted platform availability. See YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.
To preserve every episode as a usable file, keep the source episodes separately and record a local copy of the output when appropriate. YouTube recommends a local archive backup; do not treat a long-running YouTube replay as the only copy. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.

Monitor the stream and plan for recovery
- Watch the live player from a separate device to confirm the public playback is working, not only the encoder preview.
- Check stream health, picture, and audio periodically, especially after a playlist transition or a scheduled handoff.
- Confirm that local recording files are being created and growing, and retain the original episode files.
- Assign someone to respond to an outage, or arrange alerts and a recovery procedure. Keep the stream key secure and know how to reconnect after a network or encoder interruption.
- For scheduled shorter sessions, prepare the next event and encoder handoff in advance; do not assume the current event will roll over automatically.
YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing, monitoring stream health, and keeping a local archive. No setup can guarantee that YouTube, the network, and the encoder will remain available without interruption.
Understand reruns, monetization, and ad controls
Owning or licensing an episode does not guarantee YouTube Partner Program approval. YouTube applies reused-content and inauthentic-content rules at channel level, including to live streams. Reused material may be ineligible when it lacks significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value; repetitive or mass-produced output may fall under inauthentic content. The channel and how it presents its work matter, not simply whether the creator has permission to stream the files. Consult the current monetization policy and avoid planning costs around ad revenue that has not been approved.
Live ad features depend on channel status and YouTube’s rules. YouTube documents Elgato Stream Deck as an optional way to insert live ads for monetized operators; it is not needed to stream a playlist. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I monetize a rerun stream just because I own the episodes?
No. Ownership or a license does not guarantee monetization eligibility; YouTube evaluates reused and inauthentic content under channel-level policies.
Is a Stream Deck required to run a podcast rerun stream?
No. It is an optional accessory for inserting live ads, not a requirement for sending an encoder feed to YouTube.
