Use Castr’s Pre-Recorded Streams feature for a repeating playlist, or TV Playout for a timetable with distinct programs, planned breaks, or a mix of prerecorded and live content. Both workflows can feed YouTube, but their setup and plan limits differ. Castr routes prepared video; the material available does not establish that it translates or dubs your program audio.
Choose the right Castr workflow
Pre-Recorded Streams: a repeating playlist
Choose this for a simple continuous feed made from uploaded videos. Castr’s July 8, 2026 setup guide says the feature is available on all plans, accepts MP4, and supports uploading from a computer or importing from cloud storage. The file count and size depend on the subscription. In the setup, add your videos, arrange their order, choose Loop for a repeating feed or Date & Time for a scheduled start, connect YouTube, and start the stream. TV Playout: a channel timetable
Choose TV Playout when programming needs specific time slots, intentional gaps or breaks, or a mixture of prerecorded videos and live streams. Castr’s guide describes building daily playlists and sending the playout to an existing Castr Livestream destination. Create that destination first, then add media and schedule it. You can schedule items consecutively, loop a schedule where your plan permits, and insert a Break instead of leaving an unplanned gap. The guide describes continuous 24-hour broadcasting, but loop mode has a finite horizon on eligible plans; it is not a promise that one configuration runs forever without upkeep. Set up the channel, step by step
- Decide the programming shape. Use Pre-Recorded Streams for one repeating playlist. Use TV Playout for a day-and-time schedule or a combination of prerecorded and live programming.
- Check media eligibility for that feature and plan. For Pre-Recorded Streams, prepare MP4 files and confirm the subscription’s file-count and size allowances. For TV Playout, check its separate file count, file-size, duration, resolution, frame-rate, and loop limits before building the schedule.
- Create and connect the YouTube destination. For TV Playout, create a Castr Livestream destination before configuring the playout. Castr’s YouTube connection guide documents connecting through an API-selected channel or event, or manually entering a streaming server and key. The guide dates from 2023, so confirm the current dashboard labels and YouTube account flow. If you connect manually with a stream key, Castr says the stream description must be edited in YouTube’s dashboard. See Castr’s YouTube connection guide.
- Build the playlist or timetable. Add files in the intended order and set Loop or Date & Time for Pre-Recorded Streams. In TV Playout, place each program in its intended slot, add breaks where appropriate, and enable schedule looping only if your plan includes it. A looped TV Playout schedule still needs an end date within the plan’s maximum loop horizon.
- Check language and test delivery. Play the source files and verify that the spoken audio is in the intended regional language. Start a destination test and confirm that the expected program reaches the right YouTube channel. Do not assume a successful Castr connection confirms the language, captions, or viewer-facing presentation.
Prepare regional-language programming and captions
The cited Castr workflows accept prepared video files and route them to YouTube; they do not establish that Castr translates, dubs, or changes the language of a program’s audio. Prepare or obtain the regional-language audio as part of the video before uploading. If you record original narration or a show, Castr’s workflow requires a prepared video file, not a particular microphone.

Castr’s captioning page describes a beta feature with a selection of up to four caption languages, but the current guide cited here does not provide the supported-language inventory. Verify that your exact spoken and caption languages are available in the dashboard or with Castr before relying on them. The page describes captions in the Castr player; check whether that meets your YouTube audience’s needs rather than assuming captions will appear in the YouTube player. Castr states that the beta includes 10 free captioning hours per account and that the allowance and pricing may change after beta. See Castr’s captioning guide.
TV Playout limits to check before scheduling
The following are Castr Help Center product limits in its July 2026 plan table, not independent performance measurements. Castr lists one TV Playout on every plan shown. Confirm the live plan matrix before committing to a schedule, since limits and plan terms can change.

These TV Playout limits do not describe Pre-Recorded Streams; check that feature’s own allowance for your subscription. For TV Playout loop mode, schedule a new end date or renew the configuration before the applicable maximum is reached. Troubleshoot a stream that does not reach YouTube
- The YouTube destination is missing or unauthorized: Recheck the API connection and selected channel or event, or verify the manually entered server and stream key. Make sure you are looking at the correct YouTube channel. Castr’s connection guide is from 2023, so dashboard steps may have changed.
- A manual-key stream has the wrong description: Edit the stream description in YouTube’s dashboard, as Castr’s guide directs for the manual connection path.
- A video will not upload or schedule: Check that it is MP4 for Pre-Recorded Streams and within the correct feature’s file-count, size, and duration limits. TV Playout allowances are plan-specific.
- The schedule stops looping: Check whether the plan includes TV Playout loop mode and whether the configured end date has passed its 15-day Premium or 30-day Ultra/Events maximum, as listed in Castr’s July 2026 plan guide.
- Delivery is unstable or fails: Castr’s troubleshooting guidance says a very high source bitrate can sometimes contribute. Consider testing x264 video and AAC audio settings, then retrying; these are troubleshooting suggestions, not a universal encoding prescription. See Castr’s troubleshooting guide.
- Captions are absent or in the wrong language: Verify the selected caption languages and where the captions are displayed. Castr’s cited guide does not enumerate supported languages and describes captions in the Castr player.
Account access and ongoing upkeep
A Castr getting-started guide describes a seven-day trial, choosing a hosting region, and needing to subscribe after the trial to regain dashboard access. Trial terms can change, so confirm current conditions in Castr’s signup flow. For a scheduled TV Playout, maintain the timetable and renew its end date before a permitted loop period expires.
