What’s actually slowing this PC down?

A larger timeout will not fix every FFmpeg disconnect. First identify whether the input, FFmpeg process, YouTube ingest configuration, limited outbound capacity, or VPS network path failed. “Hyderabad VPS” describes the advertised server location; it does not establish that Hyderabad or a local route caused the problem.
What to capture before changing settings
Record the evidence around a disconnect before editing the command. Without the exact command, installed build, and logs, there is no reliable basis for choosing a timeout or attributing the failure to a provider.
- Save the complete FFmpeg command, but redact the YouTube stream key anywhere it appears.
- Save
ffmpeg -versionoutput so you can match options to the installed version and build. - Keep full, timestamped logs from before and after the event. Record the time in UTC, process exit status, last input read, last successful output write, and whether the process remained alive or a supervisor restarted it.
- Identify whether the reported error concerns the input URL or the output URL, and note the protocol used for each.
An input that stops supplying data, an FFmpeg crash, a failed output write, and a YouTube ingest problem have different failure boundaries. Do not treat them as one generic network timeout.
Check whether the timeout option applies to the failing connection
FFmpeg’s protocol documentation places reconnect, reconnect_on_network_error, and related retry controls in its HTTP section. That is not evidence that those options automatically recover an RTMP or RTMPS output publish. Consult the documentation for the protocol used by the affected URL and the installed FFmpeg release before applying an option. FFmpeg’s upstream HTTP option declarations are on the moving master branch, so verify them against your installed version.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A timeout can limit how long an operation waits; it cannot repair a wrong endpoint, restore a dropped route, or prove that output reconnection is supported. Avoid copying an HTTP-input example into an RTMP/RTMPS publishing command, and do not set a numeric timeout without checking the command, protocol, and logs.
Validate the YouTube ingest URL and transport
If the output uses RTMPS, check the whole connection setup rather than only increasing a timeout:

- Confirm that the URL uses the
rtmpsscheme and the valid YouTube ingest endpoint and application path for your stream setup. - Confirm that the connection uses TLS to port 443 and the expected hostname for SNI.
- Check that the command is not making a cleartext RTMP connection to an RTMPS endpoint.
YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion guide notes that a cleartext RTMP connection to an RTMPS endpoint may time out without a useful response; its timeout troubleshooting also calls for an SSL connection rather than a plain TCP connection. A timeout after reaching a host therefore does not, by itself, prove the VPS route is unstable.
Compare stream bitrate with sustained VPS upload capacity
Measure sustained outbound capacity from the VPS during representative use, then compare it with the configured video bitrate plus audio bitrate and transport overhead. A momentary speed result is less useful than evidence that the connection can sustain the stream over time. At the disconnect timestamp, inspect YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health status and encoder messages.

YouTube recommends testing before the event using similar movement and audio, and monitoring stream health. Its encoder settings guidance gives 14 Mbps as the recommended H.264 bitrate for 1080p at 30 fps. That is an encoder recommendation, not proof that bitrate caused a particular disconnect; choose settings the VPS connection can actually sustain.
Collect evidence before blaming the provider or route
To investigate a VPS network interruption, correlate repeated, timestamped symptoms with network and provider evidence. Record DNS resolution, connection-establishment results, TLS outcomes, latency or packet loss over the relevant period, firewall and security-group rules, and any provider status or support findings. Where practical, compare from the same VPS and a separate host or route.

A successful ping alone does not verify a sustained RTMPS publish. The server’s advertised Hyderabad location is context, not a diagnosis: without provider, route, packet-loss, firewall, or incident evidence, the cause cannot be assigned to Hyderabad or a particular carrier.

| Evidence at the disconnect | What to check next |
|---|---|
| The error names the input URL or the last input read stops advancing. | Investigate the input source and its protocol. Do not assume an output retry option will fix an input stall. |
| FFmpeg exits or the process is no longer alive. | Use the exit status and complete logs to investigate a process or input failure; determine whether a supervisor restarted it. |
| The output write fails or the error names the YouTube output URL. | Verify the output protocol, endpoint, application path, and any retry option against the installed FFmpeg protocol documentation. |
| RTMPS setup times out or reports a TLS-related problem. | Check the rtmps scheme, endpoint, port 443, TLS, and SNI hostname. |
| YouTube reports stream-health or encoder warnings at the same time. | Compare configured bitrate with measured sustained egress and review encoder settings and test results. |
| Similar connection or TLS failures recur at recorded times. | Correlate those times with packet-loss or latency evidence, firewall rules, and provider status or support findings before attributing the cause to the VPS path. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a 24/7 YouTube stream of uploaded videos rather than troubleshooting a VPS-based FFmpeg process, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay powered on at home; each slot streams uploads as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
