Scheduling creates a shareable watch page and lets viewers set reminders; it does not, by itself, keep a broadcast running around the clock. Plan separately for encoder supervision, recovery, and recording—especially because YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured in its archive.
Before scheduling: check channel readiness
Confirm your channel is verified and has had no live-stream restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube’s current help guidance says creators must be at least 16. If this is your first live stream, enable live streaming well ahead of the event: activation may take up to 24 hours.
For a 24/7 podcast, also decide who or what will monitor the encoder, how it will recover if the connection drops, and where a local recording will be saved. A scheduled event is not a guarantee of uninterrupted transmission.
Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, open Manage and select Schedule stream.
- Choose to reuse a previous stream’s settings or create a new stream. Enter the event details and choose its visibility.
- Save the scheduled event. Share its watch-page URL in advance; viewers can visit the page and set a reminder.
The event page and the live feed are separate parts of the process: scheduling prepares the page, while an encoder must send the broadcast and you must start the event in Live Control Room.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Connect an encoder and test the broadcast
- In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key as a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Set up and test the encoder well before the broadcast. YouTube recommends configuring it at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start.
- Send a representative test feed, including the podcast’s actual audio levels and any video or motion you plan to use. Check the Live Control Room preview and confirm the watch page works on your channel, on the watch page itself, and on a mobile device.
- When the preview is ready, click Go live. Keep an eye on audio, video, and stream health during the broadcast.
- At the end of a broadcast, click End Stream and stop the encoder feed.
Choose encoder settings for a long-running podcast
YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted version of RTMP, for ingest. Its encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for video, and AAC or MP3 for audio. Use constant bitrate encoding and set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says the interval should not exceed four seconds.
There is no single suitable bitrate for every podcast. Choose from YouTube’s published bitrate range for your resolution, codec, and frame rate, and make sure the available upload connection can sustain that setting reliably. YouTube transcodes the incoming live feed into formats for viewers, so encoder output and what each viewer receives are not necessarily identical.

DVR and latency
DVR allows viewers to pause, rewind, and resume a live stream. Check its setting in Live Control Room and decide whether letting viewers move backward through a continuous podcast is appropriate for your audience.
Latency controls how long the feed takes to reach viewers. Lower latency can increase buffering; for a podcast that does not depend on live audience interaction, reducing delay may be less important than keeping playback stable.

Plan for the archive and continuity
YouTube’s archive guidance is conditional: “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” Streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not count on a single 24-hour broadcast producing a complete YouTube archive.
- Record locally and verify that the recording file is growing during the broadcast.
- Keep enough local storage for the planned recording and have a process for checking and preserving the resulting file.
- Test encoder reconnection or failover before relying on an unattended setup. YouTube recommends testing failover but does not guarantee continuous availability for a 24/7 feed.
- Decide how to handle interruptions and archive continuity. A long broadcast may need to be divided into shorter events if a YouTube archive is important; plan any transitions and viewer communication in advance.
Troubleshooting common setup problems
Live streaming is not available
Check channel verification, age eligibility, and whether the channel has had a live-stream restriction in the past 90 days. If you just enabled live streaming for the first time, activation may take up to 24 hours.

The encoder is connected but the event has not started
Confirm the encoder is sending to the stream URL with the correct stream key, then wait for the preview in Live Control Room and click Go live. Connecting the encoder alone does not complete the scheduled workflow.
The preview or playback is unstable
Check the encoder’s output settings and connection. Match bitrate to the chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate, and ensure the upload connection can sustain it. Review stream health and test with a representative feed before the event; YouTube’s guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate, and a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds).

The 24-hour archive is incomplete or missing
This can happen because YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours. Check the local recording rather than assuming the YouTube archive is complete; if no local backup was running, a missing portion may not be recoverable from YouTube.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the podcast uses uploaded recordings rather than a live camera or microphone feed, StreamNeo can loop those videos to YouTube from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; streams run at the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or plan details. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
