Usually not if you mean editing an automated playlist that is already on air. Restream says you must add, remove, or reorder playlist videos before the playlist goes live; while it is playing, you can edit graphics and chat, but not its video entries. If you want to play a clip during a hosted live show, that is a different workflow: StreamYard documents sharing and queuing prerecorded videos during a broadcast.
What “adding a video” can mean
There are two different jobs that can sound like adding a video to a live loop:
- Changing the playlist itself: inserting, removing, or moving a video in an automated prerecorded playlist that is already broadcasting.
- Playing a clip in a live production: a host shares a prerecorded video as part of a show, alongside the rest of the live production.
Restream’s playlist documentation addresses the first job: its video list is fixed once playback starts. StreamYard’s documented video-sharing feature addresses the second; it does not establish that you can alter an already-running Restream playlist.
Restream: prepare the playlist before it goes live
Restream’s playlist guide says playlist entries can be added, removed, or rearranged only before the playlist goes live. During playback, graphics and chat are the editable elements it identifies. Restream also describes building a playlist from existing or uploaded videos, setting the order, adding files or a countdown, and then previewing or scheduling it.

The guide reviewed in 2026 states a maximum of 40 video entries and a maximum playlist duration of 24 hours. It also says playlists require a paid Upload & Stream add-on tier. The same guide listed Marathon at $79/month with a 4-hour video library and a 1080p maximum, and Media at $239/month with a 12-hour library and a 4K maximum. These are vendor-listed figures from that guide, not guaranteed current prices or terms; check Restream’s live plan details before purchasing.
If the playlist has not started
Make the change before launching or scheduling the playlist. Confirm the order and preview the resulting playlist, then start it. Restream’s Upload & Stream overview describes scheduled prerecorded broadcasts, playlists, and replaying a scheduled video up to 10 times. That replay option is not documentation of a way to insert new playlist items after broadcast start.

If the playlist is already on air
Do not expect to hot-add an item to the running Restream playlist. Prepare a revised playlist for a later broadcast, or use a live-production workflow if you need to introduce a clip during the current show. The sources do not establish a workaround that edits the current playlist’s video entries in place.
Playing a prerecorded clip in a hosted live show
StreamYard’s help article, Sharing Long-Form Videos in StreamYard, explains how a host can share a long-form video into a live stream or event and queue several videos to play like a playlist. This can suit a show where an operator is present and wants to bring clips into the production. It is not the same as modifying an automated Restream playlist that is already live.

More generally, YouTube’s Live Streaming API description of a broadcast’s life cycle concerns transmitting video to a bound broadcast and the states involved in starting and stopping transmission. It does not document a command for adding entries to a vendor’s running prerecorded playlist. Check the specific tool’s workflow before relying on a live edit.
Check rights before playing or looping a video
YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content, including other live broadcasts. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator; the stream may be interrupted or terminated if the content remains or a relevant strike applies. For licensed third-party material, YouTube advises asking the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone does not guarantee that a live stream will avoid interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Check that your rights cover both the live use and any archived replay. Do not assume that permission to use a recording automatically prevents an automated Content ID interruption.
