For a 24/7 YouTube music stream, calculate two separate needs: the sustained upload speed for the feed you send to YouTube, and the monthly data it consumes. Add your video and audio bitrates to estimate the stream’s total rate; then multiply that total by 324 to estimate decimal gigabytes for 30 uninterrupted days. For example, a 1080p30 H.264 stream at YouTube’s recommended 14 Mbps video bitrate with 128 Kbps stereo audio totals about 14.128 Mbps and uses about 4.58 TB in 30 days, before network overhead.

Upload speed and monthly data are different calculations

How much upload capacity does the stream need?

Your encoder sends one live feed to YouTube. Start with the recommended video bitrate for the chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate, then add the audio bitrate. That sum is a baseline for sustained upstream throughput, not a guaranteed ISP plan speed. Leave headroom for transport overhead, bitrate variation, other devices, and other traffic on the connection.

Use a real upload test and a representative stream test to check whether the connection can sustain the chosen settings. An ISP’s advertised speed, or one speed-test result, does not establish uninterrupted 24/7 performance.

How much data does it use each month?

For an uninterrupted 30-day stream, multiply the total bitrate in Mbps by 324 to estimate decimal GB. This follows from the number of seconds in 30 days and the conversion from bits to bytes: 1 Mbps sustained for 30 days is about 324 GB decimal. A 10 Mbps total stream therefore sends about 3,240 GB, or 3.24 TB decimal, before overhead. If an ISP measures binary units, 3,240 decimal GB is about 3,017 GiB.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Actual metered usage can differ because of protocol overhead, interruptions and reconnects, bitrate behavior, or a second outbound copy. This calculation is for the feed sent by the creator; YouTube transcodes submitted live streams into different output formats for viewers, so you do not add viewers’ playback traffic to your own upload estimate. Choose bitrate using the stream’s actual format

YouTube’s recommended video bitrate depends on the ingestion codec, resolution, and frame rate. These are recommended encoder-input values, not measurements of Indian broadband speed or guarantees of visual quality.

Input video setting AV1 or H.265 recommended video bitrate H.264 recommended video bitrate
720p30 or 720p60 6 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p30 10 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p60 12 Mbps 17 Mbps
1440p30 15 Mbps 21 Mbps
1440p60 24 Mbps 34 Mbps
2160p30 30 Mbps 42 Mbps
2160p60 35 Mbps 50 Mbps

Music streams often use static artwork or a simple visual, but the video still has a bitrate. Choose a resolution, frame rate, and codec deliberately rather than assuming the music label means negligible video bandwidth. YouTube states that HEVC can provide 25%–50% more compression than H.264 at the same video quality, but the result depends on content and implementation; do not treat that range as guaranteed savings for a particular encoder or artwork.

Include audio in the total

YouTube recommends 128 Kbps stereo audio or 384 Kbps 5.1 audio; its guidance lists 44.1 kHz for stereo and 48 kHz for 5.1. Convert Kbps to Mbps before adding: 128 Kbps is 0.128 Mbps. For example, 1080p30 H.264 at 14 Mbps video plus 128 Kbps stereo audio gives a total of 14.128 Mbps before overhead.

Configuration Total bitrate Estimated 30-day data
720p30 AV1 or H.265: 6 Mbps video + 0.128 Mbps stereo audio 6.128 Mbps 1,985.472 GB, about 1.99 TB decimal
1080p30 H.264: 14 Mbps video + 0.128 Mbps stereo audio 14.128 Mbps 4,577.472 GB, about 4.58 TB decimal

For a quick estimate, use the total stream bitrate—not just the video bitrate:

  • 5 Mbps for 30 days: about 1.62 TB decimal.
  • 10 Mbps for 30 days: about 3.24 TB decimal.
  • 15 Mbps for 30 days: about 4.86 TB decimal.

These are arithmetic estimates, not a promise about an ISP’s meter or plan. If you send a simultaneous backup feed, account for that additional outbound copy. YouTube’s API documentation describes optional primary and backup ingestion: YouTube Live Streaming API stream documentation.

Validate the connection before leaving a stream running

  1. Set the intended format. In your encoder, choose the codec, resolution, frame rate, and video bitrate using YouTube’s table. Select the audio format and bitrate too.
  2. Calculate the total rate. Add audio bitrate to video bitrate. Treat the result as a baseline; plan additional capacity for overhead and shared network use.
  3. Test upstream speed. Run a speed test and check upload, not download. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate, and its guidance suggests testing with audio and movement similar to the real stream.
  4. Run a representative stream test. Test at the planned settings with the actual audio and visual content. A single speed test cannot establish that the route will remain stable around the clock.
  5. Watch stream health. During the test and broadcast, monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators and messages. The YouTube Live API describes health status and configuration issues such as low video bitrate, audio problems, or missing audio/video: YouTube Live Streaming API stream documentation.
  6. Account for everything else using the connection. Include other household or studio devices, uploads, and each outbound copy if you use a backup feed or send to multiple destinations.
  7. Check the data plan. Multiply the actual total Mbps by 324 for a 30-day decimal-GB estimate, then check the provider’s unit convention, upload metering, data cap, and fair-use terms.

What to check with an Indian broadband provider

The bitrate arithmetic is the same in India as elsewhere, but the available service depends on the address and provider. No single Indian broadband plan can be called sufficient without knowing the installation location, upload performance, plan terms, and the reliability required for the channel.

  • Confirm the provider’s upload speed at your exact address; do not rely only on the download figure.
  • Ask whether upload traffic counts against a data cap or fair-use policy, and whether the provider bills decimal GB or binary GiB.
  • Check contention, service availability, support arrangements, uptime expectations, and written terms relevant to a continuous stream.
  • Test the actual connection under representative conditions and observe it over time before depending on it for a 24/7 broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is to keep uploaded music videos live on YouTube without leaving a home computer and connection running, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera, and streams to YouTube.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs from the cloud.
  • Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
  • Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
