You can keep a YouTube prayer meeting available from recorded sessions by sending a looping video feed to a YouTube Live event. The do-it-yourself option is OBS Studio playing a local recording or playlist; it requires the computer, OBS, network connection and power to remain available. If you cannot leave a computer running, a cloud playout service can play uploaded recordings instead. In either setup, confirm the channel is eligible to stream, secure permission for every part of the recordings, test the full broadcast and plan who will respond if it stops.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that can go live. YouTube says the channel must be verified, must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check the channel before scheduling the broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements
- Recordings you have permission to publish, plus a computer and internet connection if you are using OBS locally.
- A YouTube Live event and its encoder settings. Treat the stream key as a credential: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your event.
- A person responsible for checking stream health, handling warnings or disconnections, and deciding when the broadcast should end.
An encoder broadcast is different from uploading an ordinary video to YouTube. The encoder sends a live audio-video feed to the event; the recording is its source material. Check rights and consent for every recording
Review the whole session, not just its main speaker. Confirm that the group has the necessary permission for leaders’ and attendees’ voices and images, music, photographs, readings and other third-party material. Crediting an owner does not by itself establish permission to use the material. If you have licensed third-party content, the rights owner may still need to allowlist your channel through Content ID.
YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. Identified material may cause a placeholder image to replace the stream, or the broadcast may be temporarily interrupted or terminated if the content remains. Archived live streams may receive Content ID claims after the stream ends. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Get appropriate consent before publishing participants’ voices or images. Avoid including private pastoral disclosures or sensitive prayer requests without permission. Consent procedures and privacy-law requirements vary; the YouTube guidance does not determine what your group must do under local law.
Set up a looping stream in OBS
- Prepare the recordings. Put the sessions in the intended order and decide where the playlist should begin and end. Check transitions, pauses, aspect ratio, sound levels and whether the end of the playlist should return to the beginning.
- Create or select the YouTube Live event. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select the broadcast, then retrieve its encoder settings and stream key. - Add the recording in OBS. Create a scene, add a Media Source, select the video file and enable Loop to repeat one recording. For a playlist, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. OBS notes that VLC must be installed for the VLC source to appear. See OBS Media Sources.
- Connect OBS to the event. Open OBS’s Stream settings, select the applicable service or server, and enter the stream key from YouTube. Set output and video options for your computer and connection. Keep the key private; if it is exposed, replace it in the event settings.
- Preview and test the complete output. Check picture, framing, sound, playlist order, transitions and YouTube’s stream health. Run an end-to-end test before announcing the stream, and decide who will act if the connection drops or YouTube raises a content warning. OBS recommends testing before the first live broadcast. - Start and supervise the broadcast. Confirm the event is receiving the intended feed, then have a named person check the Live Control Room and chat as appropriate. Decide in advance whether the stream ends at a fixed time or continues. Review any archive before making it public.
OBS documentation covers media playback, looping and stream setup, but a loop setting does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. The computer, OBS, network path and power all have to remain available, and someone needs to monitor and recover problems.

Choose local playback or cloud playout
Local OBS playback suits a group that has a computer it can leave running and wants direct control of files, scenes and timing. Cloud playout is an alternative when keeping a local computer operating is impractical or remote playlist operation is needed. Check the provider’s YouTube workflow, file handling, account access, monitoring and recovery, data handling and cost before choosing. A provider’s description is not independent proof of uptime or reliability.

Before going live, assign a person to watch the Live Control Room and decide how the group will respond to a lost connection, content warning or unexpected playback problem. Check the channel’s current event and account settings in YouTube Studio, including any duration, archive and recovery options shown there; those details can depend on the channel or event. Do not promise continuous availability based only on OBS looping a file or a cloud provider’s marketing description.

If you choose to archive the event, review the recording before making it public. YouTube says Content ID claims on archived live streams are made after the stream completes when the creator chooses to archive it. Copyright issues with live streams

Troubleshoot common problems
