PC Gamer’s February 2026 guide says Guillotina’s home-defense encounter gives you seven in-game days to prepare and asks you to choose four retired cats. Use that time to build a capable roster and keep its strongest candidates alive.
- Protect promising cats. Household scraps at night can injure or kill candidates. PC Gamer recommends improving Comfort with furniture to reduce that risk.
- Collect useful equipment. Look for weapons and armor that suit the cats you expect to field.
- Keep options open. Build a pool of retired cats with strong stats and useful skills, rather than committing your defense to a single specialist.
Choose roles that still work when the formation breaks
There is no verified best-in-slot team. The useful principle is role coverage: combine ways to deal damage at range and up close with durability, sustain or mobility, and avoid a lineup that depends on everyone staying in one place.
PC Gamer’s class-based suggestions
- Hunter: ranged damage. The guide calls out Marked and Arrow Flurry as useful skills.
- Fighter: close-range damage. It suggests Strength, with Constitution and Intelligence depending on the cat’s skills.
- Cleric: healing and support if the fight lasts.
- Necromancer: ongoing damage and self-healing. PC Gamer cautions against prioritizing reanimation because there may be no bodies to raise unless a skill creates them.
- Thief: an optional high-damage but fragile attacker that can strike from behind and move away.

MewGenius suggests a more general four-slot template: a durable frontliner, a ranged damage dealer, a mobile or escape-focused unit, and a healer or stabilizer. Fight with space to move
Spread your cats out so one hit is less likely to catch several at once. Use damage-over-time effects—PC Gamer names bleed, fire and a Necromancer’s leeches—and apply stuns or other crowd control when available. MewGenius also recommends fighting in open space, leaving escape tiles behind units and avoiding corners or straight-line clumping; treat that positioning advice as community guidance rather than official encounter documentation.
React to Guillotina’s attacks
- Slice: PC Gamer describes a short-range, two-tile attack that knocks cats back. Do not place two adjacent units where the same attack could hit both.
- Groundpound: The guide reports a short leap followed by damage and knockback in a 4×4 area. Spread out and avoid being trapped against the arena edge.
- Toss: An adjacent cat can be thrown across the arena. A mobile melee fighter or speed-enhancing tool can help that cat get back into range.
- Inhale: Guillotina can pull in a cat from range and temporarily remove it from the fight. PC Gamer says the captured cat can use Flail, with a guide-reported 25% chance to break free, or allies can damage Guillotina until she spits the cat out. The cat takes one damage on landing, according to that guide.
- Movement: PC Gamer says Guillotina’s four-tile footprint can damage and knock back cats as she moves into them. Leave room for her to advance without sweeping through a cluster.
Reset after displacement
If a cat is thrown, pulled away or knocked out of position, restore useful spacing before committing your strongest attacks. MewGenius recommends keeping escape tiles open and recovering formation after displacement; this is a practical safety-first approach, not a guaranteed counter to every move.

Do not plan around one exact health total or phase script
Published guides conflict on the encounter’s numbers. PC Gamer calls Guillotina a 500-HP boss. MewGenius lists 400 HP and says reports of a body-and-head split are not stable enough to plan around. Mewgenics.org describes three stages—400 HP for a stomper, then a 250-HP body and 250-HP head—and says the later body and head must be separated to prevent Shriek from applying Poison and Hex. These reports do not establish whether they describe different stages, versions or outdated information, so none should be treated as a confirmed current-build stat block.
Accordingly, prepare to keep pressure on a large, close-range threat while maintaining spacing and adapting to what the current fight actually presents. Avoid building the whole plan around a specific health threshold, body-and-head transition or unverified drop.

What victory unlocks
PC Gamer reports that defeating Guillotina awards the Throbbing Gristle quest item, which can be taken to the Wall of Flesh at the end of the Caves. The guide also says that after speaking with Butch, the four defenders become “ultra” retired and gain a crown; they can still breed but can no longer defend the house. Mewgenics.org lists Putrid Leech and Guillotina’s Head among items associated with its phase account, but that account conflicts with other guides, so those extra rewards are not established here.
