You can’t add an end screen as an overlay to an active 24/7 YouTube broadcast using YouTube’s documented end-screen workflow. Instead, check the completed stream archive: if its YouTube Studio Editor offers an End screen control, you can add a Subscribe element to the archive’s final seconds. YouTube does not confirm that every continuous-stream archive is editable, so verify your specific archive before building a subscriber-growth plan around it.
Can you put an end screen on an active 24/7 stream?
YouTube’s end-screen instructions describe editing a video in YouTube Studio; they do not document an end-screen overlay setting for an active live broadcast. For a 24/7 stream, the practical option is to inspect its completed archive and see whether the Editor provides the End screen control. The official guidance does not guarantee that every continuous-stream archive exposes this option or explain how YouTube divides a continuous broadcast into archives.
An end screen appears at the end of a video. It is different from a message or graphic shown while a stream is live. If YouTube Studio does not offer End screen for the archive you selected, the reviewed instructions do not document a universal workaround.
How to add a Subscribe end screen to an eligible archive
- Open the archive: In YouTube Studio, select Content and open the archived video from your 24/7 stream.
- Check for the editing option: Open Editor and look for End screen. If it is unavailable, do not assume there is a separate setting for continuous streams.
- Add the elements: Add a Subscribe element. You can pair it with a relevant video, a video selected by YouTube, your latest upload, or a public playlist. Choose a destination that naturally continues the viewing experience.
- Set the timing and placement: Position the elements in the video’s final portion. Preview the ending to check that the elements are visible and do not obscure important content.
- Save and verify: Save the edit, then check the archive’s ending to confirm the end screen appears as intended.
End-screen limits and what viewers may see
YouTube’s Help guidance says a video must be at least 25 seconds long to have an end screen. Elements appear during the final 5–20 seconds. A standard 16:9 video can have up to four elements; other aspect ratios may have a lower limit. End screens are unavailable on videos designated Made for Kids.

Even when an end screen is configured, it may not appear to every viewer. YouTube lists contexts in which viewers cannot see end screens, including mobile web except iPad mobile web, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids apps, Flash videos, and 360 videos. Viewers can also hide them, and YouTube may adjust whether or how they appear based on performance, viewer behavior, device, and context.
Available element types include a video, playlist, Subscribe, Channel, and—if you are in the YouTube Partner Program—an external website that complies with YouTube policies. For subscriber growth, make Subscribe the clear action and use any neighboring video or playlist as a relevant next step. YouTube’s best-practice guidance recommends relevant elements, calls to action, and enough space and time at the end.

Choose an end screen that fits the stream
There is no universally established best-performing combination. Choose based on what you want viewers to do after watching the archive:
- Prioritize subscriptions: Add a Subscribe element and keep other elements secondary.
- Continue a specific viewing journey: Pair Subscribe with a closely related video when there is a clear next episode, song, or topic.
- Offer a broader next step: Use a relevant public playlist when viewers may want more than one related video.
Relevance matters: a destination unrelated to the stream may distract from the subscription request rather than help viewers decide to follow the channel.

Measure clicks separately from subscriber growth
YouTube Studio’s Analytics Engagement report includes End screen element click rate. Google defines this as clicks on end-screen elements divided by impressions. It indicates interaction with the end screen, not whether those clicks converted into subscriptions. Use the metric to compare elements or destinations, then separately review whether channel subscriptions change. The available guidance does not establish a specific subscriber increase caused by adding end screens to 24/7 stream archives.
When the goal is a live handoff
If you want to send viewers from a live broadcast that is ending to a Premiere or another live stream, YouTube documents Live Redirect as a separate feature—not as an end screen. YouTube Help lists more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes among the sending creator’s eligibility requirements. Check YouTube’s current Live Redirect guidance for the complete requirements before relying on the feature.
