The language of the tracks does not change the setup. This walkthrough assumes your files are accessible on the computer running FFmpeg and that you can create a YouTube Live stream and retrieve its ingest details.
Choose the playlist setup that fits your files
For audio-only tracks, FFmpeg can send a still image as the video while the playlist supplies the audio. For video files, send the playlist’s video and audio streams instead. In either case, the simple concat-demuxer method works best when the inputs have compatible streams, codecs, and time bases. Mixed formats may need normalization or a filter-based, re-encoded workflow.
| Approach | Best suited to | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Audio playlist plus still image | Audio-only Marathi tracks when a static visual is acceptable | Requires a real image and video encoding; it does not create visualizers or artwork changes. |
| Video playlist | Tracks that already have video | Requires compatible video and audio streams, or mapping and re-encoding to make them consistent. |
| Stream copy | Inputs already compatible with each other and YouTube ingest | Uses less CPU, but cannot normalize the streams or change their codecs, profile, or bitrate. |
| Filter and re-encode | Inputs with mismatched codecs, layouts, sample rates, or timing | More predictable output, but uses more CPU and requires a suitable encoder build. |
Prepare and inspect the Marathi playlist
Create a concat playlist
Make a UTF-8 text file with one file directive per line. Keep the header at the very beginning of the file. Use paths that exist on the FFmpeg host; quote or escape paths according to FFmpeg concat syntax when filenames contain apostrophes or special characters.
ffconcat version 1.0
file '/media/Marathi/track-01.mp3'
file '/media/Marathi/track-02.mp3'
The concat demuxer presents inputs sequentially. FFmpeg’s documentation says the files should have the same streams, including codec and time base; inaccurate or estimated durations can cause timestamp gaps. If tracks differ materially, normalize them first or use a concat-filter workflow that decodes and re-encodes.

Check streams before choosing mappings
Use ffprobe to confirm which streams each file contains before building a video-playlist command. For example, ffprobe -hide_banner -i 'track-01.mp4' prints stream details. Audio-only files need an audio mapping and, if the output is a conventional video stream, a separate still-image video input. A video playlist should map the playlist’s actual video and audio streams explicitly; stream indexes can differ between files.
Get the YouTube Live destination
- In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, open the Stream tab and create a stream or select an appropriate existing one.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube’s encoder instructions say to enter both values in the encoder.
- Prefer the RTMPS URL when the local FFmpeg build supports it. Use the exact URL and port shown by Live Control Room; do not assume one endpoint is universal.
Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it in an article, screenshot, repository, or shared command history. Command-line arguments can be exposed in shell history or process listings on some systems; use a protected configuration or secret-handling mechanism appropriate to your operating system.
Run a baseline FFmpeg command for audio tracks
This example loops a still image and an audio concat playlist, encodes H.264 video and AAC audio, and sends an RTMPS feed. It is a starting pattern, not a universal command: confirm that your FFmpeg build includes libx264, and adapt output settings to the stream target, your files, and sustained upload capacity.

| Output target | YouTube H.264 recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that every channel or connection needs or can sustain the listed rate. Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate together, and leave headroom for a stable sustained upload. YouTube’s advanced settings specify stereo audio at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps; for 5.1, they specify 48 kHz and 384 Kbps. RTMP/RTMPS supports AAC or MP3, and 5.1 audio over RTMP/RTMPS is supported only with AAC. Check YouTube’s live settings guidance before a broadcast because platform guidance can change.
Adapt the command for video files
For a video playlist, remove the still-image input and map the playlist’s video and audio streams after inspecting them with ffprobe. The exact stream indexes depend on the files. If sources are already mutually compatible and meet ingest expectations, stream copy may reduce CPU use; otherwise transcode to a consistent output. Stream copy is an optimization, not a way to fix incompatible media.

Start, verify, and stop the stream
- Run FFmpeg and watch its log for missing-file, decoder, encoder, or connection errors. Confirm that output continues rather than stopping after one playlist pass.
- In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and check stream health messages.
- Listen for audio, inspect the picture, and confirm that playlist transitions occur as expected. Test with conditions similar to the planned broadcast and monitor the health display.
- For a scheduled stream, click Go live after the preview appears if YouTube presents that step.
- To stop sending the feed, stop FFmpeg. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that guidance is not a promise of uninterrupted or unlimited archiving for an indefinitely running stream.
RTMPS versus HLS
For the ordinary FFmpeg-to-YouTube workflow shown here, use RTMPS when available. YouTube describes it as RTMP over TLS/SSL and recommends it. HLS is a separate ingest workflow, not a drop-in replacement for the RTMP/RTMPS FLV command above. YouTube’s HLS requirements include TS segments of 1–4 seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, and no byte ranges; YouTube also says HLS has higher latency than RTMP. Use HLS only when you specifically need to implement that separate ingest format.
Troubleshoot common failures
No preview in Live Control Room
- Recheck the copied server URL, protocol, port, and key against the current stream details.
- Read FFmpeg’s output log and confirm outbound network access to the destination.
- If a key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder configuration.
No sound or the wrong stream is mapped
- Use
ffprobeto verify that the playlist inputs actually contain audio. - Check the
-mapindexes; an explicit audio mapping is necessary when the input arrangement is not the assumed one. - For a typical RTMP/RTMPS output, encode audio as AAC or MP3, both supported by YouTube.
Playlist stops, stalls, or has gaps
- Confirm every referenced path exists and the concat file begins with
ffconcat version 1.0at the first character. - Check that inputs have compatible streams and that durations are accurate; normalize mismatches or use a concat filter with re-encoding.
- Review FFmpeg logs for timestamp or decoder errors.
Buffering or ingest warnings
- Lower the output resolution or bitrate to a level supported by YouTube’s guidance and your reliable sustained upload rate.
- Do not treat a speed test as proof that the connection can hold that rate continuously; test and monitor under conditions like the planned broadcast.
RTMPS or SSL connection error
- Make sure you copied the RTMPS URL rather than an ordinary RTMP URL, and use the port YouTube displays for that destination.
- If the supplied RTMPS URL indicates port 443, use that exact endpoint rather than substituting another port.
