For a prerecorded Indian music playlist, the most reliable way to ride through a home power cut is either to power the entire local streaming chain—computer or encoder plus modem and router—with a correctly sized UPS, or to move playlist playback to a cloud service that does not depend on your home computer. A router-only UPS cannot keep a locally encoded stream running if the computer loses power. For a live performance or camera feed, the source itself, encoder, and network equipment all need power; cloud playback is not a substitute for a live local source.
First identify what must stay live
The right recovery plan depends on where the audio and video originate. YouTube encoder broadcasts need an encoder sending data over an internet connection with the correct server URL and stream key. A powered router does not prove that the ISP connection is working, and a powered computer cannot overcome a broadband or YouTube-side problem.
| Stream type | What a home power cut affects | Continuity approach | What it cannot prevent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prerecorded playlist played and encoded on a home PC | The PC or encoder and local networking equipment | Back up the encoder and modem/router together; set up and test restart and stream recovery | UPS runtime depends on the combined load and model; ISP and YouTube outages are outside the UPS |
| Prerecorded playlist played by a cloud service | Home power need not interrupt playback if the service is the playback origin | Consider cloud playout and test the service-to-YouTube connection and recovery path | Service, account, internet, platform, and music-rights issues can still interrupt the broadcast |
| Live performance, camera, or other local feed | The live source, encoder, and networking equipment | Back up every required local device and test recovery; consider independent connectivity where feasible | A UPS cannot keep an unpowered performer or failed ISP online |
Keep a locally encoded stream running with a UPS
For a home-PC setup, choose a UPS for the combined equipment load, not just the router. Include the computer or hardware encoder, modem, router, and any other device the stream needs. UPS runtime varies with load and model; there is no universal backup duration for a streaming PC.
- List the required devices. Identify the encoder, playback computer, modem, router, and any local source equipment that must remain powered.
- Estimate the actual combined load and desired bridge time. Use device specifications or measure the load, then compare it with the UPS manufacturer’s runtime information for that load. Do not infer runtime from a headline capacity alone.
- Check outlets and compatibility. Confirm enough battery-backed outlets are available for the full chain, and that the UPS suits the equipment and local electrical supply. A surge-protected outlet without battery backup will not bridge an outage.
- Connect and test the whole chain. With the actual encoder and network gear connected, test a controlled power interruption. Confirm the UPS carries the load, the network remains available, and the encoder continues sending or restarts as intended.
- Plan for outages longer than the battery can cover. A UPS buys time; it does not provide indefinite power. Decide how the stream should be stopped or recovered if the outage exceeds the measured runtime.
Compare manufacturer runtime charts, battery-backed outlet count, and equipment compatibility when shopping for a UPS for a streaming PC and router. The available guidance does not establish one best model or a standard backup time.

Configure YouTube and the encoder for recovery
YouTube’s stream key is the encoder credential used with YouTube’s server URL to send a feed. YouTube allows a custom stream key to be reused. Keep it private: anyone with access may be able to send a stream to your channel. In the encoder, enter the YouTube server URL and the matching stream key, and test the setup before relying on it.
- Verify the encoder destination. Check that the server URL and stream key in your encoder match the YouTube stream you intend to use.
- Test before broadcast. YouTube recommends testing the encoder setup and monitoring stream health. Use the Live Control Room health information while the encoder is sending.
- Review Auto-start and Auto-stop deliberately. These YouTube stream controls govern stream operation; they do not turn equipment back on or restore broadband after an outage. Reused stream settings can carry these choices forward, so confirm them in the workflow you use.
- Test the interruption path. Check what happens when the encoder loses power and returns, including whether it starts sending again and whether the scheduled or managed YouTube stream behaves as you expect.
YouTube’s encoder guidance documents RTMPS and encoder requirements. Use its current setup and encoding guidance for the requirements applicable to your encoder and chosen video settings; do not assume that UPS capacity or YouTube’s Auto-start setting guarantees a reconnect.

Recover after power returns
Work from the equipment outward: power, internet, encoder, then YouTube. A powered local network is not proof of working outbound internet.
- Check the UPS and devices. Confirm the UPS is on, battery-backed outlets supplied power, and the computer or encoder, modem, and router actually booted.
- Confirm internet service. Test outbound connectivity from the encoder location. If the local devices work but the internet connection does not, troubleshoot with your ISP.
- Inspect the encoder. Check that the software is running, the playlist or source is loaded, the configuration and stream key are correct, and the machine is not overwhelmed by CPU load.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room. Verify that YouTube is receiving the feed and inspect its stream health indicator. Check the public watch page after sending resumes.
- Escalate based on the failing link. If the encoder cannot connect despite working internet, investigate its software and configuration. If outbound connectivity is unavailable, contact the ISP; local power backup cannot fix an upstream network outage.
Protect the music broadcast as well as its power
Power continuity does not grant permission to broadcast tracks, recordings, artwork, or video. Make sure you have the rights needed for the music and visuals in your stream, including any necessary permissions for continuous or repeated playback. YouTube’s copyright and monetization rules still apply to a 24/7 playlist. Review the copyright safety checklist before going live, and do not treat a successful encoder test as evidence that content is cleared.

Choose a continuity plan that matches your stream
- Local prerecorded playlist: use a UPS sized for the computer and network chain, then test restart and reconnection behavior.
- Cloud-hosted prerecorded playlist: test the service, account, and YouTube connection, and verify current service features and costs before depending on it.
- Live local source: back up the source, encoder, and network equipment; recognize that ISP availability remains a separate dependency.
In all cases, test the real interruption and recovery path before relying on the stream. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; that does not guarantee a 24/7 broadcast will be preserved as one complete recording.
